Welcome To Stonyridge Vineyard
Our Story
Stonyridge Vineyard is the ongoing dream of owner Stephen White. In 1981, Stephen returned to New
Zealand after sailing a Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, skippering yachts in the Mediterranean and
Caribbean, and working at wineries in France, California and Italy. It was during this 3-year adventure that
Stephen came to love the culture and lifestyle of the Mediterranean and the great red wines of France,
Tuscany and California.
After extensive climatic research Stonyridge was discovered as the ideal site to ripen and produce a world
class Bordeaux style red wine.
The first Bordeaux vines and olive trees were planted in 1982 with the help of close friends and family.
In 1984 Stephen returned to Bordeaux for a final training period and completed a vintage at Chateau
d'Angludet, Cantenac-Margaux under the tutelage of Peter Sichel.
Stephen produced the first vintage at Stonyridge Vineyard in 1985. Two years later, we made the great 1987
Larose that rocketed Stonyridge to national fame, and attracted international attention – a wine hailed as
the greatest red wine ever made in New Zealand.
Today Stonyridge is referred to as “One of the Top Ten Must Visit Wineries in the World” Guardian UK and most
recently topped the list for the best Cabernet Merlot in The Age/ Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide
2013. The Stonyridge Larose 2010 scored 97 points to make it the highest equal scoring red wine in 2013
and finished ahead of all of Australia’s most iconic Cabernet Merlots!
Stonyridge Larose has been enjoyed by the likes of our own Prime Minister, The Right Honorable John Key,
King Juan Carlos & Queen Sofia of Spain and is sold at some of the world’s best restaurants including
Madrid’s top restaurant Viridiana.
Welcome from Head Chef Connie Aldao Worker
On behalf of the kitchen team, I warmly welcome you to beautiful Stonyridge Vineyard.
Stonyridge Vineyard is world famous and our commitment is to offer a dining experience complementing
your enjoyment of our superb wines.
I left my native land Argentina almost a decade ago after meeting and marrying the New Zealand
Ambassador to my country. I was the General Manager and Head Chef of Francis Mallmann 1884
Restaurant in Argentina's wine capital, Mendoza, and in 2002 won the award of seventh best restaurant in
the world from London's "Restaurant Magazine". After arriving in New Zealand in 2006, I fell in love with
this country and it's cuisine and deepened my knowledge through a range of cooking projects in Wellington
including Government House.
During my husband's recent five year posting as New Zealand Ambassador to China, I had the responsibility
and privilege of planning and managing all the official entertainment of the New Zealand Embassy in
Beijing. I learnt great respect for the cuisine and customs of China and Asia.
In early 2015 I moved with my family from Beijing to wonderful Waiheke.
It is my privilege to be at your service at Stonyridge!

Stonyridge Faithful $3 $9 $35 Syrah, Mourvédre
Waiheke Is. 2014
Faithful is named after Norton, our 13 year black Labrador who was a much loved, faithful and steadfast member of the
staff. Faithful is produced as an earlier drinking, fruit forward style of wine. The 2014 vintage displays ripe spicy fruit,
with subtle toasty oak characters on the nose. In the mouth, this Syrah/Mourvedre shows ripe soft tannin, sweet
