Summer 2008 - Question raised regarding future ownership of the Community Center
Fall 2008 – One year operating agreement entered into by all three parties
February 23, 2009 – Public Forum - three entities met to discuss what was in the best interest of the community as a whole
February 2009 – Park District considered facility renovations to a true recreation center
March 2009 – School District expressed interest in ownership
April 3, 2009 – Park District expressed willingness to relocate
April 7, 2009 – City agrees to pay remaining balance of the 1999 renovation costs
April 24, 2009 – Event Center Committee expresses interest in a possible combination of events and recreation, puts on hold its discussions
What has changed since 2005? April 2006 – CTE Department of Department of Public
Instruction deemed our construction area at the High School to be unsuitable
2007 – Legislature approved all-day, everyday kindergarten creating additional space issues in the District
December 2008 – Community Center ownership became a possibility
April 2009 – Stimulus dollars became available for school district to use to update and remodel buildings
July 2009 – Funds from 2005 bond Issue for renovating Jr. High, would not be available for use at Community Center

Relocate Administrative Offices from Central Administration Building (CAB) to the Community Center
Sell the CAB and GPA, new gym at the GPA may be retained by the School District
School District & Park District continue to jointly operate the pool. Public would see no changes.
TimelineJune 2010 – Park District move their offices (to
Raging Rivers) and programs (verbal agreement to utilize the Great Plains Academy gym {1975}
July 2010 – School District begin renovations of Community Center
March 2011 – School District moves into Community Center
Mandan Park District Park District has general obligation borrowing capacity of
$3.7M in 2013 and willing to commit $2M to a potential recreation center.
City Visitors Fund Committee would support $2.2M of funding assistance, location must enhance community growth, May 7, 2009; recommendation has not been before the City Commission
May 2009 – Ohlson Lavoie engaged to examine a possible recreational facility with a module for other events
July 24, 2009 – Final Concept Plan & Cost Estimate

○ Fitness/Cardio options: Lease space Construct a Rec. Center Allow private business to fill the void No longer participate in the fitness industry
