Safety and Security at Island Creek Elementary School

Safety and security is a top priority and students are supervised at all times.

• Safety is everyone’s responsibility• All employees must wear an identification

badge (including maintenance workers)• All exterior doors are locked during the

day

Sign In and Sign Out*Everyone who comes to school signs in and

wears a badge

● Visitors & Volunteers- Must check in first at main office (an ID is needed for check-in)

● Change in dismissal routines• Note is required for all changes in dismissal• Note is required from each student’s parent

if going home with a friend.

● Checking in Students-• Late Arrival- Sign in at main office• Early Dismissal- Check out from main office

Arrival - 8:15 Students may begin arriving to school

Transition - 8:25 Staff members help transition students into classrooms.

School Begins – 8:35

Dismissal - 3:20 Teachers/Patrols bring students to buses, van riders, walkers, or Kiss and Ride areas and wait with students

Arrival and Dismissal Hours

During the first 2 weeks of school, parents may walk their students to class, after that, students will walk independently with other children from their designated area (lobby, gym or cafeteria)

Parents should not walk to the classroom through the kiss and ride door.

Emergency Care Card (E.C.C.)

• Our primary way of contacting you in an emergency

• Be sure to accurately fill out and update E.C.C.- moved, new job, new telephone number and Day Care information

• Accessible via Parent View

○Parent view not accessible until September for updates

MedicationsBy regulation, only parents may bring medications to

school and give it directly to the nurse/health room aide.

AttendanceAccess the online attendance form on our school website or

call the attendance phone line 571-642-6363.

If the school has not been notified of an absence or

tardy, an automated phone call will notify the parent.

Lunch AccountStudents enter a PIN# or bring money to buy lunch

(yes, we do adjust to a smaller pin #)

Label Clothing - Inside jackets, sweaters, lunchboxes

and other possessions

●Bus Riders: get into routine early on first day

●Kiss and Ride: Observe Safety/Traffic Rules

○Assigned area for pick up and drop off

○No left hand turn onto Morning View

○Park and walk into the building with your child is always an option

○Bus lot is for buses only

Transportation

Delayed Openings/Early Closings

●FCPS.EDU, Channel 21 or local television and radio

●Plan Ahead For Child Care- Make sure child knows what he or she is supposed to do in these situations

Access the FCPS secure solution for information about your child's attendance, class performance, demographic data, and more.

News You Choose

Get weekly and monthly newsletters

Fairfax County Public Schools has a subscription-based e-mail

communication tool, called News You Choose. Community members will

be able to select what information they want to receive and how often

from individual schools, the School Board office and members,

departments, programs, and PTA/PTO and booster organizations.

Anyone can subscribe to News You Choose. Subscribers can select

which schools they want to receive information from and what type of

information—news and updates, athletics, band, PTA/PTO, and more.

Subscribers can change their settings or unsubscribe at any time.

FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View

Find out what's happening in your child's classroom.

FCPS 24-7 Learning provides parents access to available courses the student is enrolled in, Family Connection to view College and Academic Career Planning (for Middle and High school students), weCare@school to view and update Emergency Care information, and Bus Stop Information via the Bus Stop module.

Please note that it is necessary to have an active Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account to be able to login to FCPS 24-7 Learning: Parent View. The same login credentials will be used to access both the SIS and FCPS 24-7 systems.

Important Kinder Croc Notes

• One healthy snack, small water or juice

• Be conscious of allergies – i.e. nut free

• In the AM, Kindergarteners are brought to the classrooms by a Patrol (daily)

• Notify classroom teachers and front office in writing if your child’s after school plans change

• Make sure you write how your child goes home on a white index card and place it in their backpacks for the first week of school
