Welcome back to a new year of school for all of our families. For me, it is wonderful to be back at Parkes Public School again. A big welcome to our new Kindergarten children who have fully joined us today. We are looking forward to having them join the Parkes Public School team.

I would also like to welcome Mrs Vicki Barker (1 Blue), Miss Jamie Cox (Kinder to Year 2 RFF), Mrs Lucy Lock (Year 3 to Year 6 RFF) and Miss Clare Bowkett (K White). I know that our Parkes Public School community will make them feel very welcome.

During the holidays, our P&C has been working very hard to have a shelter built over the equipment in the primary playground. This project is progressing and we hope that it will be finalised within the next week or so. Our primary students will greatly benefit from this project, with the equipment being more user friendly in the hotter months of the year.

You may have noticed a post on the P&C’s FaceBook page for a new Canteen Manager. Sadly, Belinda will be moving on and we need to find someone to take up the position. The details for the Canteen Manager’s position can be found on the P&C’s FaceBook page. All applications are due on Monday, 11 February and can be handed in to the front office at school. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Belinda for all of her hard work in managing the canteen and ensuring that our children have access to a canteen on both sides of the road. We greatly appreciate all of her work.

We enjoyed a great day at the swimming carnival on Friday and were very thankful that the weather was slightly cooler than it had been for the previous days. Thank you to Mrs Dolbel and the team for their excellent organisation. A huge thank you to all of our parent helpers who volunteered their time. We couldn’t possibly run such a successful carnival without your help. I would also like to thank the families who came to support their children and cheer them on.

You can order through the lunch bins on a brown paper bag or preferably, on Flexischools. For a copy of ordering information and the canteen menu, please go online to the school website www.parkes-p.schools.nsw.edu.au or call in to the front office or canteen for a copy.

Volunteers are required in order to run the canteen. If you have any spare time to help once a week, fortnight, month or even a term, please see the canteen supervisor or phone the school to speak with her.

Uniform Shop The uniform shop is open on Wednesday afternoons from 1.30-3.30pm and Friday mornings from

Medication If your child is on regular prescribed medication that needs to be administered at school, you need to

have filled in the appropriate paper work which can be collected from the office. We can only accept

medication that is in the original box showing the dosage of medication to be given. When a new script is

supplied, we also need to have the new box so as we have the current prescription.

Choir Our primary choir has successfully auditioned to attend the Choral Festival at Sydney Opera House

in September. Well done everyone! This year, 28 students will have the opportunity to attend.

Late Arrival/Early Departure Parents, please remember that you must attend the front office to sign your child into school (and obtain a pass to give to the child’s teacher) if they arrive late to school. Students leaving school early or to attend appointments must also be signed out at the front office.

Parents in the School Grounds Please be aware that whilst we are more than happy for parents to be on school premises before and after school at drop off and pick up times, it is important to move in and out of the school as soon as you can so that the children can get their routines under way.
