Hi, I’m Miss Reilly!* This is my first year at Westlawn, but my fifth year teaching third grade.

* In my free time, I love to read, run, explore Milwaukee, and spend time with family and friends. I'm a huge sports fan, just don't ask me what team I root for in baseball.

* I love to learn and I am so excited to be a part of the Westlawn community!

Homework:You will have an opportunity to practice math a little each week.

You will have the opportunity to read great books at home.Occasionally you will have a science or social studies project to

work on.

I promise it isn’t a lot of homework :)

Reading● You will read lots every day!● You will get the chance to pick books you enjoy and love to read!● I will also help you pick books to read throughout the year to help

you learn!● We also do daily read alouds where I get to read to you each day. We

have an amazing collection of books to dig into this year!

Communication Arts● During reading workshop we will read fiction and non-fiction.● During writing workshop, we will explore different types of

writing.● We will work on strategies together to help you as a reader and

writer, which includes spelling strategies.● Our poetry unit is always a blast!

Math● We will work on addition, subtraction, multiplication and

division● We will work with fractions and on measurement techniques● We practice rounding and geometry too● Westlawn is implementing the Bridges program this year and we

are going to rock math together!

Science ● Explore ideas about space● Conduct experiments with simple machines● We will explore living things in the pond and forest biomes● You will practice ways to take good care of yourself and the

earth

Social Studies● You will practice reading maps and globes● You will learn about historic cedarburg. We go on walking

tours!● We will explore ancient egypt and compare how the egyptians

lived, to how we live today● You will be introduced to how our american government works

Computers* We will practice keyboarding* We will log into our Google accounts to collaborate together* We will create projects through Google presentations* We will use computers, Chromebooks, and iPads to aid us in our learning

What about a Snack?

I am going to ask your grownup to send in $10.00 to buy a saltine cracker snack for the morning.

You can bring a healthy snack for the afternoon snack. Fresh fruit and veggies are the best!

What happens when you are

Absent?

Please have your grownup call the office and let us know you will not be at school.

We will have a “We Missed You” folder. Inside, you’ll find the work you missed while you were away.

Return the folder once you have taken it home and reviewed it with your grown up.

We are going to have an amazing year :)
