It is a very busy term which always seems to go at a galloping pace. This term is very important as it provides students the opportunity to make enormous gains as they bring together all that they have learnt throughout the year, and practise using the skills and knowledge to achieve their goals. It is an important time for parents to have a conversation with their child about what he/she hopes to achieve this term, what the focus will be, and how he/she intends to work towards achieving it. With the help of parents, children can achieve so much when parents teach them to maintain their focus on their goals in a positive way. School Plan We are in the process of developing our School Plan for the next three year cycle (2018-2020). In our plan we have input from the School Executive, teachers and School Community members. Each school develops their individual plan according to the needs of the school and it assists in providing continuity in areas of quality learning, teaching and leadership. Pat Cavanagh (Principal School Leadership) worked with some staff members last term to begin the planning process. Next week Pat has offered to meet with interested parents to provide an opportunity for them to understand and have input into the planning process. We have organised Wednesday 18 th October from 3:15pm - 4:15pm for the visit. If you would like to attend could you fill in the form below for catering purposes and return it to the school office. This is the only time we could organise this session with Pat as the area he supports is vast and we have been lucky to access this time for our parents/carers. Newsletter Online This year we are working towards sending our School Newsletter by email only, therefore eliminating paper copies. There will be a paper copy available to collect from the office if parents/carers are unable to access the Newsletter by email or on the website. If you are not already receiving the Newsletter by email could you please fill in the slip below and return it to the School Office as soon as possible. We are putting this process in place for 2018. Canteen and P&C and Meeting Both the Canteen and P&C Meeting are on Wednesday 11 October at 6:00pm Kinder Orientation Dates The dates for the Kinder Orientation morning visits for students beginning Kinder at Westlawn in 2018 are Friday 10, 17 and 24 November. The Parent Information Meeting is on 10 November while the children are at Orientation. Perpetual Trophies Time has gone so quickly this year and we need the Perpetual Trophies returned in preparation for the 2017 Presentation Day. If you have a Perpetual Trophy that your child received at the Westlawn Presentation Day last year could you please return it to the school office as soon as possible. Leaving Westlawn this year? We are confirming student numbers and staffing needs for 2018. If your child/ren will be leaving this Term or over the holidays could you please phone the school office or complete the tear-off in this Newsletter and return it to the school office? Thank you.

Sporting News PSSA Boys Cricket Knockout

Westlawn played Bellingen PS in round 5 of the knockout competition at Connell Park, Bellingen on September 21.

We won the toss and elected to bat. Axel Hargans and Joey Nilon opened the batting and put together a solid

partnership of 19 before Axel was run out for 2 runs. Keaton Stutt missed out on a big score after looking good early,

bowled for 3. Joey anchored the innings putting together 23 valuable runs. Hamish Speed then took the lead and

scored 12 runs, helped out by Austin Gallagher who cracked a couple of fours in his dig of 11 runs. Harry Hughes was

caught for 2 and Ben Walters put one to the boundary to finish 4 not out. Westlawn finished the 25 overs at 7 for 102.

Bellingen lost an early wicket thanks to brilliant bowling from Keaton Stutt. However, they fought back and steadied

the ship. At the end of 12 overs Bellingen went to the drinks break at 2 for 31. Tight bowling from Keaton, Koopah

Walters, Taj O’Mahony and a brilliant caught and bowled by Will Lucas meant their scoring had been restricted.

Harry Hughes and Joey Nilon then began a spell of bowling that would change the game. Harry took 2 wickets in 2

overs and Bellingen were looking a little shaky at 4 for 47. Joey took 2 wickets in 2 balls but missed out on a hat-trick.

All of a sudden, Bellingen were in strife at 6 for 52 with 8 overs remaining and in need of another 51 runs. A wicket to

Ben Walters and another to Keaton helped restrict Bellingen to 8 for 74 at the end of the 25 overs. The bowling figures

were: Keaton 2-0 (5 maiden overs!), Koopah 0-11, Taj 0-13, Will 1-8, Ben 1-10, Harry 2-9, Joey 2-4, Hugh 0-2, Halen

0-2, Austin 0-3 and Axel 0-6. Westlawn won by 28 runs.

Wetlawn will next play the winner of the Narranga PS v Hastings PS match.
