Kinder Enrolment for 2019 We are accepting enrolments for 2019 now. If you know anyone who has children who are beginning Kindergarten in 2019, please invite them to a Parent Information Evening for prospective Kindergarten parents on Tuesday 18 September at 6pm in the KS Kindergarten classroom. The meeting will conclude at approximately 7pm and enable parents to gain information about the Kindergarten learning program, our school’s values and ethos, and being part of a supportive school community. We welcome any prospective parents to attend. We are holding another evening as we have had some new enrolments and they missed the meeting in June. They can also arrange to visit the school so that I can show them around. If your child is enrolling in Kindergarten at Westlawn PS in 2019 please leave details of name, address and birth date at the office. We will be sending out information later this term, so need names and addresses now please.

Canteen If anyone is available to volunteer in the canteen on a Friday please contact the Canteen Manager,

Amy Freeman on 0459 944 716 or the school office. The canteen is in desperate need of volunteers.

PSSA Hockey Knockouts

As reported last week, both the boys and girls hockey teams won their matches at Taree last

Tuesday. They will now travel to Narellan to be part of the ‘Finals’ containing the final four

teams in the state.

The boys will play Parkes PS in their semi-final, with the winner to play either Barrington PS

or Tamworth PS in the final. The losing sides will play-off for 3rd and 4th place.

The girls will take on Molong PS in their semi-final. The winner will meet either Red Head

PS or Ben Venue PS in the final.

It is a rare feat indeed for the winner of the boys and girls state knockout competitions to

come from the same school. Out teams now have the chance to create some ‘history’. We

wish our students and their family members a safe and enjoyable trip away together and we

will have our fingers crossed that they can play their best hockey.

Boys Cricket Knockout

Westlawn travelled to Iluka yesterday to play Iluka PS at Ken Leeson Oval. Iluka won the

toss and sent Westlawn into bat.

The Westlawn opening pair of Axel Hargans and Reece Winters were very watchful in the

first few overs, seeing off the stronger Iluka bowlers. At the 15 over mark, Westlawn were in

a very good position at 0 for 55. Kade was then bowled for 11 runs and scoring became very

hard work. Axel was finally dismissed for a valuable 27 runs, Sam Buggy was run out for 1

run and Reece Winters chipped in with 6 runs before losing his wicket. Eli Jones and Zane

Farrell both finished not out on 0. Westlawn PS finished their 25 overs at 4 for 85.

The Iluka openers were in a very aggressive mood and smashed 33 runs from the first 6

overs. Koopah Walters stemmed the flow a little with a wicket but Iluka raced to 1 for 49

from 9 overs. Blake Norrie then snared a very valuable wicket and Iluka were 2 – 54. Sonny

Kilduff bowled beautifully to take the 3rd wicket and Kade Simpson took 2 wickets in his

second spell to give Westlawn some hope. Iluka were beginning to look shaky at 5 for 70 off

17 overs.

Westlawn needed some quick wickets and valiantly defended in the field but it wasn’t

enough. Iluka reached their target with 4 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand.

Bowling figures were: Koopah 1 – 12 off 5, Kade 2 – 28 off 5, Blake 1 – 14 off 3, Sonny 1 –

19 off 4, Zane 0 – 7 off 2, Eli 0 – 6 off 1, Shayne 0 – 6 off 1.

The loss means we now bow out of the competition. Many thanks to Amy Jones and

Christian Buggy for scoring. It was much appreciated. Thank you also to our family members

for providing transport to the students and for cheering us on.

SRC Citizenship Award

The SRC present a weekly Citizenship Award at our primary assembly. Each week we

meet to discuss what encouraging things we have seen happening in our

playground and classrooms. The SRC look for behaviours that are helpful,

demonstrate our school rules or an act that shows a student as a positive role

model for others. We then nominate children we have seen displaying these

behaviours. Last week the SRC focussed on finding children who were being helpful

around our school.

The students who were nominated by SRC representatives were Makayla Pugh,

Kiarra Owen, Clair See, Lachlan O’Grady, Sam Ensbey, and Ilianna Ward. We all

voted. The award winner has been seen and heard…being kind and helpful to

anyone who needs it, picking up rubbish in the playground and playing fairly. This

week’s Citizenship Award winner is Clair See.

Congratulations Clair!

Over the coming weeks, the SRC are looking for students being helpful around our school.
