A Typical Day

You should aim to be at school by 8.20am each day – the entry bell goes at 8.30am prompt. On assembly days we line up at 8.25am.

If you need to travel by yourself, think about planning your journey to school. Perhaps try it in the school holidays with your parents so that you know how long it will take and what time you will need to leave home in the mornings. Wear a watch so you don’t lose track of the time.

Practise getting ready for school. Lay out your clothes the night before and make a list of all the things you will need to take to school, then pack them by yourself. You may need to ask your parents to check if you’ve done a good job!

Try using a diary or notebook whilst you are still at primary school to remind yourself of things you need to do.

Form Time

All the students in school are members of a Form. There are about 28 students in each Form and there should be someone you know from your primary school in your Form.

It’s a great opportunity to make new friends. Your Form Tutor is on hand to help you settle into school and you can speak to them about any worries or concerns you may have.

Lessons

You will be given your timetable when you join, along with your planner which you can use to note down

lunchtime clubs, daily reminders etc.

Lessons are 60 minutes long and spread across a two-week timetable.

Behaviour and Rewards

We all want our school to be a place where we can work hard, do our best and enjoy the company of the people we work with in pleasant surroundings.

We use a system called Behaviour for Learning (BfL) grades to take the register using the numbers 1 to 4 according to how well you take part in the lesson and Ready to Learn (R2L) merit stickers/awards.

There are lots of opportunities to be rewarded in school – too many to mention! Each student will be given a Record of Achievement folder. Once you have taken any certificates home to show your parents, you can put them in your folder so they are all kept together.

We also have lots of badges which you can collect for a variety of reasons, for example attending extra-curricular clubs, good behaviour, enthusiasm etc. These can be pinned to your blazer so that other students can see how proud you are to be a member of our school community.

How many badges can you collect?

Sport

You will be able to take part in a wide variety of sports all year round.

There will also be opportunities to compete against other schools locally and nationally or you can attend one of the many lunchtime or after school sports clubs.

Performing Arts

There is always so much going on in the Drama, Dance and Music departments! We stage a whole school production each year (every other year a musical), and several other events such as concerts and performance evenings to showcase students’ work to invited audiences.

Can you guess which performance these photographs were taken from?

There are lots of clubs for Year 7 students across all three subjects, and opportunities for you to be involved backstage if you are a little shy in performance. You will even learn how to use the lighting and sound equipment in your Drama lessons!

You will have the opportunity to go to the theatre – in the past we have taken Year 7 and 8 to see Matilda, The BFG, Into the Woods, Rats’ Tales and Ghost Train – so you can be inspired by the professionals! In lessons you will devise and design your own work and also explore scripts, making decisions as an actor and director as well as designer.

The Music department are three-time winners of the Cheshire East Schools' Music Competition so you can be assured of high-quality music making here at our school.

Worried?

Don’t be worried! Here are some comments from previous Year 7 girls:

o The teachers are kind and understanding.

o We soon made loads of new friends.

o The older girls are friendly and happy to help.

o We were put into suitable groups for our work.

o We’re starting to find our way around and if we get lost we know that we can always ask for help.

o Don’t be afraid to ask people for directions!

o Try to join as many clubs as you can – they are great fun!

o Don’t be afraid to talk to people.

o Don’t worry about homework – ask your teacher if you aren’t certain about what to do and when to hand it in.

o The school buses come right onto the site. You will be catching them with friends and will soon make new ones to sit with. Everyone waits together for the bus, so it’s unlikely you will miss it.
