Dear Attendees,

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I would like to express our warm

welcome to all of you for joining our International Training Workshop of Waste to

Energy (WtE). The 3rd International Training Workshop of WtE will be held between

October 21st until November 3rd, 2018, in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, China. I

also extend my congratulations to you, who is successfully chosen from over 120

applicants from 16 countries.

Ever since 2016, we have already admitted and trained 42 participants from 13

countries, providing an excellent platform for all attendees to gain knowledge and

share their own experience in municipal solid waste management and disposal.

Management of municipal solid waste is a universe challenge all over the world,

especially for developing countries. In China, we have applied the WtE to solve the

aforementioned issue for 30 years and over 350 WtE plants are under operation in

China nowadays.

In this workshop, the mechanism, technology and management of waste to energy,

etc., will be introduced both in classroom and the field of plant. We will also bring

you to experience Chinese culture. My colleagues and I are strongly interested in

your opinion, experience and information in this workshop. I hope this program can

promote further cooperation among us in the future.

Finally, Thanks to the sponsors and all the efforts from the organizers. And I wish all

of you a wonderful and inspiring stay in Hangzhou!

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is one of China’s top higher education institutions, as well as

one of its oldest; its roots can be traced back to 1897, the founding of Qiushi Academy.

Located in Hangzhou – one of China’s most picturesque cities – the university consists of 7

Energy and environment are the most important and popular subjects in the world today.

The Institute for Thermal Power Engineering (ITPE) focuses on fundamental and applied

research in energy and environment. Main research subjects at ITPE include: Efficient and Clean

Utilization of Fossil Fuels; Clean Utilization of Low-Grade Energy; Pollutants Formation,

Transmission, Measurement and Control; and Numerical Simulations in Multiphase Reaction

System.

ITPE is also one of the high education bases in the field of energy and environment in

China. ITPE owns the national key specialty of Engineering Thermophysics. ITPE undertakes

National Key Research and Progress Projects such as "211" and "985" projects. With a

competitive research team and advanced facilities, ITPE has been a key unit for high-tech

research, development and education in the field in China and the world.

Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) is a comprehensive key university of Zhejiang

Province, co-established by the Zhejiang Provincial government and the Ministry of Education.

It offers programs in a variety of subjects including engineering, science, liberal arts, law,

economics, pharmaceuticals, management, education, and so on. ZJUT has 27 colleges and 1

department, including 70 undergraduate programs, 116 master's degree programs and 35 doctor's

degree programs. ZJUT has established interscholastic cooperative relationship with about 60

colleges and universities from America, England, France, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Australia,

Russia, Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, etc., and about 10 colleges and universities

Advanced Manufacturing Technology (IRC-E&M)

International Research Center of Special Purpose Equipment and Advanced Manufacturing

Technology (IRC-E&M) is identified by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Sep. 2013.

The center is based on the Zhejiang Provincial Top Key Discipline of Mechanical Engineering

and Control Engineering. IRC-E&M has five research sub-centers including agricultural

engineering equipment, ultra-precision machining equipment, structure integrity of special

equipment, mechanical vibration and noise, intelligent equipment.

With wide and stable international academic exchanges channels, IRC-E&M has executed

various communications with numbers of foreign universities and research institutes. In recent

years, the center has undertaken over 200 national/provincial-level projects, and agricultural

machinery, pressure vessel security evaluation and micro frequency devices have been

industrialized, which generated guide and demonstration effects for special equipment areas and

View of Waste to Energy plant with CFB incinerator

Hangzhou Xiaoshan Jinjiang Green Energy Co.,Ltd is an enterprise of

environmental energy subordinated to Jinjiang Environment. It is located in Zhang

Pan Qiao Village, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It adopts the

“differential density circulating fluidized bed refuse incineration technology”

developed independently by the thermal energy research institute of Zhejiang

University. At present, our

company is able to dispose

household refuse of over 1300

tons. Our company has a total

investment of 450 million and

covers an area of 88 mu.

Ever since the operation

of the company, it mainly

concentrates on processing the household refuse in Xiaoshan urban area, most of

the south and east areas in Hangzhou. It has succeeded in disposing over 60% of the

total household refuse generated by the local 2.6 million people safely and

environmentally, thus realizing the purpose of “utilized, harmless and minimized”

processing of the household refuse. Currently, our company is able to clean and

burn over 500000 tons of refuse every year, thus saving over 200 mu of rubbish

field.

New Village Construction

Lingxia Town is located in the south of Jindong District, Hangzhou. In order to

enhance the rural environment and create

a beautiful landscape, Lingxia Town took

Hekou, Fuzhang and Wangxi as models

and been constructed according to the

requirements of ecologic, localization and

globalization.

In order to ensure the classification of garbage, the model of ‘first stage

household classification and village cleaning staff secondary classification’ is

implemented. The village cleaning staff conduct secondary sorting and

classification process. More than half of domestic garbage is from kitchen, which

isn't suit for incineration. If we use scientific treatment to deal with kitchen waste, it

will return to nature as fertilizer.

In order to encourage villagers to participate actively, we adopt the

characteristics of rural ‘acquaintance society’ and set up a ‘red and black list’ and a

‘smile face wall’ in the village. Thus,

villagers’ autonomy is stimulated by the

assessment mechanism.

Hangzhou Tianziling Vein Town View

Tianziling Landfill is located in

Tianziling Vein Town, Gongshu

District, Hangzhou. The town is an

industrial area dominated by

environmental protection enterprises.

The town has a total area of 2.8 km2,

and the main resources of landfill were

waste disposal. The town is the first nationwide town with green as the theme and

environmental protection industry as the core, which integrates ecological culture,

industrial tourism, science and education demonstration and other functions.

The landfill covers an area of 0.24 km2. Everyday more than 8,000 tons of

garbage are transported to Tianziling Landfill, which had already flattened and

compacted by engineering vehicles and covered with a layer of HDPE high-density

polyethylene film. The landfill can promote the reduction, recycling and

harmlessness for solid waste.

Field View of Waste to Energy Plant applied Grate

Technical Communication

Developed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession agreement with

SUS Environment, construction of the Ningbo waste to energy project began in

March 2016. Having only started investing in waste to energy in 2014, over the last

four years SUS has developed over 20 plants with a total daily processing capacity

of more than 35,000 tonnes. Covering an area of 19.27 ha, the 2250 tonne per day

(TPD) Ningbo facility represents an investment by the firm of around RMB 1.4

billion ($215 million). It features three moving grates, each of a 750 TPD capacity,

as well as a 50 MW steam turbine and 60 MW generators.

Based on Hitachi Zosen Inova

technology, SUS Environment has

developed its own patented reciprocating

moving grate system. It is adapted to

China’s municipal waste stream, which

features a high water content and low

calorific value. The grate consists of drying,

burning and burnout sections, with 1.3 m drop in between. In addition, a row of

cutters is fitted in the middle of the burning section to improve shredding and fully

mix waste on the incineration grate. The plant also adopts flue gas cleaning systems

including SNCR, Semi-dry and dry DeNOx, activated carbon injection, bag filter,

SCR, wet scrubber and gas-gas heating processes.

(Nanjing) Limited is located in Tongjing

Town, Jiangning District, Nanjing. The

company is responsible for the investment,

construction and operation of the

waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Jiangnan, which is the largest WTE plant in Jiangsu

Province with a total area of 0.173 square kilometers. The plant is the

demonstration project of large-scale WTE projects in China.

The WTE plant is designed to dispose 400 tons of waste and 2000 tons of

leachate per day. The plant has been using the mechanical furnace technology,

Shopping

There are three shops inside the campus, and one shop is just across from the

front gate of the campus.

The nearest big supermarket (Walmart, 沃尔玛) outside the campus is located

at 132 Shuguang Road, which is about 20 minutes’ walk away (1.6km) from the

campus.

Hospital

The Zhejiang University hospital (浙大校医院) is located not far from the

north gate of the campus. You can see it on your way to the north gate.

Bank

The nearest bank (Bank of China, 中国银行) is located at 28 Qiushi Road,

which is just 5 minutes’ walk away from the Bridge Gate of the campus.

Local SIM card application

If you want to apply for a local SIM card, you can go to the China Mobile

office at 5 Huanglong Road, which is about 2.0 km away from Zhejiang

University.

Please do not forget to bring passport with you.

For your information, the card has a fixed package of 58 RMB per month with

unlimited traffic. If you want to make international calls, you need to inform

2. Canteens

There are 2 canteens in Yuquan Campus for out-of-school trainees. The canteens

offer various food, which could meet the demand of different diets. Each canteen

offers packaging services. The location of each canteen can be found on the

attached ZJU map.

NOTE that each meal card is strictly bond to its canteen. Ordinary cards can only be

used in the second floor of No.1 Canteen and Muslim cards can only be used in

Muslim Canteen. The card is time-bonded and will be invalid if expired, i.e. you
