President’s Message
No hitchhikers from the spirit world of Norfolk Island brought back. If there was, then they probably took off as soon as they could to avoid the workaholic household that we are. Michael and I are suitably rested (well to a degree) and full of information and stories about Norfolk, as I am sure everybody is when they return. Norfolk islanders cannot help but fill you in on every detail of history and the state of democracy a number of times, and then some. We were very fortunate to have a couple of contacts and some friends who were also there at the same time for a few days, so, our heads were full of 'stuff' both historic and environmental.
Back to reality and only two short weeks until change-over night. Where did the year go? Maree has her plans in place and is ready to get on with it. One more Board meeting for the current Board and then they can have a well earned rest from things unless they are backing up with another year for Maree.
Ines Bohatschek our YEP student arrives on the 1st August at 8am and I am very much looking forward to having her stay at our home and start school here. Anne Forsyth will have her for a couple of days as her counsellor before she comes to us for about 3 months. Now here is the big question to everyone - we still need two sets of host parents to take her from about early November to the end of January and then from April to the end of July (minus the weeks she is on Safari). Also, I would like to have her stay again for a week or so before she goes home. Please think hard about this as she is younger and more dependent (a bonus actually), and even if you have had students in the past, it may be time to have one to stay again. It would also be good for her to get out more on weekends and possibly stay at a few Rotarians home for a Friday or Saturday night perhaps. Let's make this stay very special for her.
See you at the meeting.
Yours in Rotary Gayle

Incoming Exchange Student
On Wednesday evening (13th June) P.E. Maree and Rtn Anne Forsyth attended an information session/seminar at the Grand Chancellor in Launceston hosted by the District Directors/Leaders of Rotary Youth Exchange, providing us with much information, verbal and written about the significant obligations of the Club, prospective host parents, counsellors and students. They have an amazingly complex organisational structure and support system.
A very informative night during which we were able to meet a large group of host parents, parents of outgoing students, counsellors and others, sharing information, experiences and the like. Some host parents had been caring for incoming students for 20+ years! These have been varied students of course, not quite like the millennials who don't leave home!
Ines, the student we are hosting arrives 1st August.
At the next club meeting we will be discussing hosting arrangements, and the need for club members to assist where able with outings and the like, as there are still a few spots to fill to manage continuity of care for this young student who is only 15 years of age this month!
NB she likes cycling so if anyone has a spare bicycle we could put it to good use.
Hoping she has a glorious experience in Deloraine and Tasmania, it is our job to ensure this occurs!
Many thanks Anne
Ines and her family

Whenever my aunt went to the doctor, she would complain to me about the long delay she always endured.
One day, when my aunt's name was finally called, she was asked to step on the scale. "I need to get your weight today," said the nurse.
Without a moment's hesitation, my aunt replied, "One hour and 45 minutes!"
OBJECT OF ROTARY
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as
a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and
foster:
First The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
Second High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of
the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each
Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal,
business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and
peace through a world fellowship of business and professional
persons united in the ideal of service.
