From the Principal…

I would like to thank parents for your continued support as we manage a return to school for the children. It was lovely yesterday to see so many families come to Club Umina to drive through and pick up the learning plan for this week. Everyone had a smile on their face and a very positive attitude. As previously advised students can return to school 1 day a week from next week. This will occur in House groups. Please remember if your children are unwell keep them at home. This will assist in keeping all of the children and staff safe.

Banksia – Monday Wattle – Tuesday Boronia - Thursday Waratah – Friday. Limited access to the school site will remain in order to minimise the risk of spreading infection. Parents are requested not to come on site and not to congregate at the school gates at 3:15pm. Please maintain social distancing as you wait for the children at the end of the school day.

END OF DAY PICK UP At pick up time (3:15pm) grades will be allocated a gate to exit the school grounds. The children will exit by the gate allocated to the youngest child in the family. Please practice social distancing while you wait for your children to leave the school grounds. Gates will be advised later in the week. Keep an eye on the school FaceBook page and the SchoolEnews app for details.

SCHOOL HOURS Our school operating times have not changed. Students need to be at school by 9:10am. Parents are reminded that teachers are not on duty before 8:45am and children are not supervised until 8:45am. Please make every effort not to leave your children unsupervised.

CANTEEN NEWS Our canteen will be open with a slightly reduced menu. The menu is attached to the newsletter. Breakfast will be available and you are requested to write your child’s lunch order on a piece of paper and send it in with the money in a zip lock bag. Children will be able to purchase additional snacks from the canteen during lunchtime.

LEARNING PACKS Parents will be able to collect these from the drive through at Club Umina on Monday between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Children attending school on Monday (Banksia House) will bring their learning pack home with them on Monday afternoon. The learning program will be the same at school as it is at home. Completed work can be dropped off at the drive through at Club Umina.

ADVICE FROM BUSWAYS - SCHOOL BUSES STILL OPERATING Busways is continuing to work with Transport NSW to ensure vital services keep running for all customers during COVID-19. It’s important that we all continue to exercise every Government outlined requirement to ensure we get through this together. Busways has continued to: Maintain extra cleaning on buses, with every bus receiving a disinfectant treatment every day, including all regularly touched areas such as handrails, poles, seats and doors. Exercise additional procedures for all Busways employees to follow in order to limit any chance of the virus spreading. This includes issuing employees with hand sanitiser, requiring employees to wash their hands every time they enter and leave a worksite, employees staying home if they’re unwell, and minimising the handling of cash.

Students are reminded that they are still required to tap on and off with their Opal card or show their School bus pass when boarding. Current advice: If a student is experiencing flu-like symptoms, until they know what type of illness they have, they must stay home and avoid contact with other people. They should not board the bus. Students undergoing 14 days of mandatory isolation should also not board the bus. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Busways at [email protected]

KEEPING IN TOUCH Teachers will continue to make contact with their students. When a new roster is introduced at the beginning of Week 3, all calls to children will be made on a Wednesday. This will commence on Wednesday 12 May. Please be prepared to accept a ‘no caller ID’ call on Wednesdays.

Thank you once again for your support and positivity. I would like to wish all Mum’s out there a very happy Mother’s Day. Take care and stay safe.

Lyn Davis

BAND UPDATE The Conservatorium of Music has been incredibly flexible in continuing to deliver their band program via online Zoom lessons at home. As new advice has come from the Government and Department of Education and Communities, students are returning to school, with every single school having its own system. At Umina Beach PS, students are returning according to House Colour, so the band tutors are now working very hard to change their original plan and create timetables to accommodate their students. The Conservatorium will be in contact with you, and the school will update as we get new information. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Kinsela via the front office on 4341 1630.
