Weekly News Friday 3 rd July 2020 Another week on..... So, everyone is settling into the ‘new normal’ as all year groups go about their daily routines. It certainly has been a good practice run for September when all of our children will return. We’re very excited for that to happen! More details to follow before the end of term. In the meantime, the celebrations for Year 6 have begun with a ‘SATs breakfast’ without the SATs – how could life be more perfect than that! As the children tucked into their fresh strawberries, raspberries, waffles, cream, bananas and so much more, the children were mindful of their friends who are shielding so, of course, an emergency delivery was made – we wanted you to enjoy the treats too! Excitement is mounting as the ‘hoody arrival date’ is almost here. By early next week, you will be presented with your gift, Year 6 children. We know you want to wear your hoodies around school and we want to see you in them! Fruit and Vegetables Scheme You might have heard that the government fruit and vegetable scheme has been suspended at this time but it’s important that our children continue to enjoy one of their ‘5 a day’ so free fruit and snack for infants and juniors is currently being provided. Digital Reading Challenge Thank you children for getting off to a swift start on The Reading Challenge. Don’t forget that certificates and prizes will be awarded when we return to school, so jump aboard and enjoy a summer of reading. Any books read, whether they are class teacher set project books, reading challenge project books or myON books of your choice, they all count towards your regular reading over the summer. A little surprise Hopefully, by now most of the children learning from home will have had another phone call from their teacher. We hope you enjoyed having a little catch up! If for any reason you haven’t had phone contact or a message re-arranging a time with you, please contact the school office and we will arrange a time with you. Messages of Kindness The number of kind and supportive messages coming into school over the last week has been overwhelming. Messages about the children’s return to school including their wellbeing and improved mental health; messages about happiness and friends re-united and not forgetting all of the virtual hugs and appreciation for the school staff. We are strong together and we belong to an incredible school community – thank you.

Weekly News Friday 3rd July 2020

Another week on..... So, everyone is settling into the ‘new normal’ as all

year groups go about their daily routines. It certainly

has been a good practice run for September when all

of our children will return. We’re very excited for that

to happen!

More details to follow before the end of term.

In the meantime, the celebrations for Year 6 have

begun with a ‘SATs breakfast’ without the SATs – how

could life be more perfect than that! As the children

tucked into their fresh strawberries, raspberries,

waffles, cream, bananas and so much more, the

children were mindful of their friends who are

shielding so, of course, an emergency delivery was

made – we wanted you to enjoy the treats too!

Excitement is mounting as the ‘hoody arrival date’ is

almost here. By early next week, you will be

presented with your gift, Year 6 children. We know

you want to wear your hoodies around school and we

want to see you in them!

Fruit and Vegetables Scheme You might have heard that the government fruit and

vegetable scheme has been suspended at this time

but it’s important that our children continue to enjoy

one of their ‘5 a day’ so free fruit and snack for

infants and juniors is currently being provided.

Asda Kindness This week, we received good news when Asda

contacted us through Angela, the community liaison

representative and offered to send us bananas for

everyone as part of links with the local community –

thank you so much we appreciate your

thoughtfulness.

Please also take a look at the noticeboard in the Asda

Foyer. By the end of today, it should be adorned with

the beautiful artwork from Saltergate celebrating 72

years of the NHS.

Photographs Today is the closing date for sending in a head and

shoulders photo of your child(ren). Please don’t

forget as we’re in the process of making a special

surprise momento for each of you.

Please send your photos to the email addresses

below.

Special Thank You Gifts We’ve had a few parents asking about bringing in gifts and cards at the end of term, especially in light of the Covid situation. Because the staff at our school have gone way above and beyond in their commitment throughout this pandemic with their positive can-do approach to supporting your children and their effort in planning and re-settling all year groups back to school, they couldn’t possibly be denied of any acts of kindness from you. A card or verbal thank you is just as welcome but if you do want to bring a small gift, please go ahead – they will be gratefully accepted.

Letters to the children Things are very different this year as we already

know! Transitions are complicated so we’ve decided

to write a letter to the children to let them know

their teacher for the next academic year. Letters for

the Thursday/Friday group will be given out on

Friday 10th July and letters for the Monday/Tuesday

group will be posted on Thursday 9th July.

Please remember to be positive about the new class

groups as the children are likely follow your lead.

If there are any concerns which you’d like to discuss, please email the helpline [email protected]

Star Reading Assessment at home or school Year 1–6 children. Have you taken your Star Reading Assessment at home or school yet? Don’t forget this important job. It will set you up for reading at your precise level, on myON, and provide you with lots of reading challenges for the summer. Let us know if you have any technical difficulties!

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” Caroline Flack (09/08/1979 - 15/02/2020)

Can I just say how wonderful and happily the boys have both settled back into school. This really is a

massive credit to all of your team. Our boys had really missed their teachers and their return to school

has been nothing but positive.

You’re all doing an amazing job throughout all of this.

Thank you all so much.
