Pajama Program: One Million Good Nights August 21 – August 31 Please bring a donation of new pa-jamas and/or new books (ideally, one of each!) to the Village Center Desk between August 21 and August 31. The pajamas and books must be new and unused, and the pajamas

should be a complete set or a nightgown. We are focusing on children from infants to age 12, but will gratefully accept PJs and books for up to age 18. In return for your generosity, all those who contribute will receive a coupon for a free ice cream sundae with all the fixings! Sundaes will be served in the Village Center on Thurs-day, September 8 from 2:00-3:30 The Pajama Program is a national non-profit organization that provides new pajamas and new books to children in need. The two simple gifts of pa-jamas and books let these children know that someone cares - sometimes these are the only new things they have ever re-ceived. Through this simple act of love, we can fulfill every child’s right to a good night. As the new school year is fast ap-proaching, won’t you consider donating?

Kanreki: A 60 Year Journey

Contemporary Japanese Prints, Highfield Hall & Gardens Wednesday, August 3, 11:00, $10 pp includes tour Meet at the Village Center at 10:15 to carpool. Highfield Hall & Gardens is the magnificently restored 1878 estate of the Beebe family, now transformed into a vibrant center of cultural and community life. The story of this property is dramatic; it was saved from the wrecking ball in 1994, lovingly restored, opened as a museum and historic site in 2006. The property’s two magnificent gardens also underwent restoration. The 60th anniversary College Women’s Association of Japan print show features more than 200 contemporary Japanese prints by established and emerging artists. Select-ed by international printmaking experts in Japan, the prints encompass diverse techniques from traditional woodblock, to intaglio, lithography, etching, aquatint, silkscreen and more contemporary digital innovations. The show debuted in Tokyo in 2015 and Highfield Hall & Gardens is its exclu-sive U.S. venue. Since its inception in 1956, the CWAJ print show has become a highly acclaimed and internationally recognized exhibition.

A must-see attraction for all ages where you will touch, see and interact with the world’s only authenticated pirate treasure, discovered in 1984 off the coast of Wellfleet. The Whydah was a ship built by the British to travel between Africa, the Caribbean and Great Britain. After being captured by pirates, the Whydah pirated other vessels, and sank in 1717 during an infamous storm off the coast of Wellfleet. The Whydah’s legend was passed down among generations through-out the Cape as its treasure lay just 500 feet off the shore for over 250 years.

The Beat Goes On A Musical Journey Through the 60s Saturday, August 27 Doors Open 6:30, Show starts 7:30 VIP - $40 pp (rows 1-4), Premium - $30 pp (rows 5-6)- Premium sold out Standard - $25 pp (row 7 + as needed) The 60s exploded with protest folk songs, racial inequality awareness music, rock- pop and drug infused psychedelic song tracks to mimic a generation that wanted free love, equality and peace. The Beat Goes On highlights some of the more monu-mental & emotional events of that decade but still reserves the free loving-peaceful- optimistic message that this generation strived so hard for! The show premiered at Cotuit Center for the Arts in February 2015 and is an original, multi-media, Cotuit-on-the-Road production using powerful projected images and film clips shown between each musical number to re-create the era with humor and haunting visions. Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles

7:10 Game Start - $66 pp (SOLD OUT)

A fully equipped, modern motor coach will depart Southport at 4:00. You should arrive at Fenway Park by 5:30, with an hour to walk around and enjoy Yawkey Way. There’s nothing quite like Fenway Park! It is the oldest stadium in the country and genera-tions of fans have filed through the turnstiles. The Green Mon-ster is the distinctive left-field wall, higher than most outfield walls and vexatious to many hitters, whose possible homers turn into singles and doubles. The Green Monster is also home to an enormous scoreboard that’s still changed manually, just like in the old days. Grab some dinner & Red Sox souvenirs and then make your way into the park. Seats are reserved in the Grand-stand. See Information Room for more details.

Dinner Café with Danielle Miraglia Friday, September 30 Doors open at 5:30, Dinner served at 6:15 Music starts at 7:00 $20 pp - BYOB Danielle Miraglia seemed to burst all at once to the forefront of the Boston blues/folk scene. Straddling the line where folk/roots meets rock/blues, Miraglia has a voice that can go from a

raspy come-hither purr to an Etta James-esque powerhouse belt, although she may be best known for her lead thumb — a heavy, thumping strike on her Gibson that’s backdrop percus-sion in itself. She’s received an honorable mention at Telluride’s songwriting competition, and most recently, a 2015 Boston Mu-sic Award nomination for singer-songwriter of the year. Think of Lucinda Williams with a sense of humor or Bonnie Raitt meets Janis Joplin, and you’ll have some idea of what to expect! More details regarding dinner menu in the Information Room.

Lynn Robinson (Watson) is pleased to announce that her

eighth book, “Put Your Intuition to Work” was published by Ca-reer Press in July. An audio-book edition is also available. Lynn writes that intuition is our “Inner Compass.” When we listen to it and act on its wisdom, it will point us in the right direction — towards greater peace and hap-piness. Her website www.LynnRobinson.com is filled with resources — quizzes, videos and articles — on how to develop

and use your inner wisdom.

Planning a 10th Anniversary Southport Cookbook Southport published

its first cookbook in 2007, featuring hundreds of terrific recipes from residents and staff. Let’s embark on a 10 YEAR REVIVAL of that effort with a brand new cookbook to be pu-blished in 2017! Joanne Morrow has enthu-siastically volunteered to coordinate this pro-ject. To date we’ve received a few dozen re-

cipes but HUNDREDS more are needed ASAP! Can we count on you to submit a few favorites? Recipes of every type are welcome and can be emailed to Joanne at [email protected] (put “RECIPES” in the subject area of your email), or left in the Recipe Drop Off Box in the Information Room. Thanks for participating! Ilse Fersing, Coordinator, 2007 Cookbook.

Ron’s Vegetable Garden Southport’s resident ‘farmer’ Ron

Hutcheson is once again producing fresh vegetables to sell at lo-cal farmers markets. You can save yourself a trip to the market by ordering your fresh veggies by email and picking them up at his home on 18 North Ridge Road. If you want to be alerted to what’s available each week, send your email address to Ron Hutcheson ([email protected]) and ask to be placed on his customer list.

Mashpee Household Hazardous Waste Collection August 20, 9:00 to 1:00, Mashpee High School

Protect what we love about the Cape, espe-cially our precious local drinking water. Most household chemicals are too toxic to toss into regular trash or dump down the drain, so FREE collections of household hazardous waste are held to take them off

your hands and out of our water supply. Keeping our environ-ment clean and healthy for future generations is critical and needs to begin with each of us. See the Information Room for the list of accepted items, or www.capecodextension.org.

The Lost & Found Bin, located outside the Weight Room, is

where you may find an item you’ve mislaid or forgotten to take home with you. Very small items might be found in the Lost & Found bin on the Information Room counter. For valuable items such as keys, glasses, wallets or cell phones, please check with staff at the Village Center Activities Desk. Please respect others’ property and remove only items that belong to you. Thank you.
