Fr. Dan’s FYI: May 24, 2020 - Ascension of the Lord Today we commemorate the Ascension of the Lord into the glory of heaven and the commissioning of the Apostles to spread the good news to all lands. By Baptism, all of us share in this Divine Commission of the Lord. We are not only meant to preach the Good News but to be the Good News! This past week, we saw the Church re-open for the first time since March 20, 2020. It was wonderful seeing people coming and going making visits to Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament. This coming week, May 25 - 30, 2020, weekday Mass will also resume. For the time being, we will celebrate only one Mass at 9:00 a.m. (The Mass Intentions for the 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. Mass previously taken will be combined at this Mass.) Following Mass this coming week, the Blessed Sacrament will be enthroned on the Main Altar for adoration until 12:30 p.m. A priest will be available to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the "Crying Room" following Mass. At present, there will be no Confession heard before the Sunday Mass. If one wishes to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation outside the times mentioned, it is best to make an appointment. Some among you think that once we go back to Sunday Mass, the schedule will be the same as it was before the pandemic struck. I must assure you that this will not be the case!!! All of us are in unchartered territory. We must be prudent in our adaptation to the new reality. Until you hear directly from me, the following is still in effect: There are to be no meetings, gatherings, parties, rehearsals on church property until we receive the go-ahead from the Diocese and health officials that it is safe to do so.

There are no exceptions.


If an organization wishes to have a virtual meeting, that is a meeting conducted on the internet, you may do so, but no physical meeting is to take place on the property. This might be a good idea for executive meetings.

When in Church, safe-distancing (6 ft) is to be practiced. Families and couples may sit together. Pews will be roped off to safe-guard safe-distancing.

Due to the fear of the spread of the virus, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and the "Crying Room" will be off limits with the exception of the use for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the live-streaming of the Sunday Mass.

Wearing a face mask in church is required. It should come off for the reception of Holy Communion.

For the present time, the Reception of Communion in the hand will be utilized.

The Choirs and Musical Ensembles will be on hiatus for the time being. According to the directives from the Diocese, one instrumentalist and one vocalist will be utilized.

Missalettes and hymnals have been put away for the present time. The bulletin will have the Order of Worship for the Sunday Mass. The Order of Mass will also be available on the web-page.

Dispensers to sanitize one's hands are available near the holy water fonts.

Due to health concerns, there will be no offertory presentation of the gifts, nor will a collection be taken. One may put one's contributions in the box provided near the ushers' station.

Remember, we are all in this together. As mentioned previously, we will take prudent and cautious steps as we re-open.

We may have to use the Pastoral Center and Madonna room as sites for Mass. At this point, we do not know. I ask all of you to be patient and prudent.
