Time change; weather change; wardrobe change; what next? Actually, that’s enough for me. As we move into the familiar territory of holiday preparation, I look forward to the rituals of fall and winter. Although life does become more hectic, there is a comfort (for me, at least) in knowing what to expect. It is an occasion to bring family together, to eat our favorite foods and to create memories. Like many of you, this will be my first holiday season without the “older” generation. With my Dad’s passing, I am now the older generation! YIKES! We will have many rituals that he led which will now pass on to others in the family. For many families, the year also brings marriages and births, so the cycle is completed by the changes that occur as we introduce new family members into our circle. What has been tradition for years will morph as we move through the flow of life and death in families. This is, perhaps, a sobering thought, but it is also a reality that plays out every year somewhere. As we approach Grandparents and Grand-Pals Recognition Day here at TCS, I am excited to meet the special people in the lives of our students. They are always so eager to introduce us to their grandparents, visiting aunts and uncles, special neighbors and life-long friends. There are no unimportant relationships in the lives of our students. The bonds they make are tight and true. They strive to meet our expectations. They may be anxious about how they are perceived, but they are also paying close attention to our words and actions. It is important that we, the adults, set aside special time with the special people in the lives of our teens. Recent events, at school and at home, have highlighted how grateful I am for the talent and energy of others. Where would TCS be without the creative and generous parents and staff? In this world of responsibilities and commitments, we are always amazed at the extraordinary level of volunteerism that fills each year. Every morning and afternoon, when I arrive and depart campus, I see the activity of our tireless teachers as they tutor, coach, supervise, chaperone and give of themselves to our students. The classroom represents the bare minimum of interaction in the flurry of life known as TCS. Planning periods are filled with making plans for special activities, creating lesson plans that inspire and contacting community resources to enhance the content material. When community agencies need help, our staff steps forward to volunteer our Interact club, student government or full school to assist with drives, events and activities that benefit others. Many staff members are here by 6 a.m. and/or still here long after 6 p.m. answering emails, grading papers, organizing activities, and creating the magic they do so well. As part of this unique partnership that is TCS, we know our parents put in the extra miles to be sure their teens are prepared for school, healthy and encouraged. They stop by to inform us of resources or bring in morale boosting notes and goodies. They volunteer entire weekends for fundraisers and campus improvement projects. They take time to write notes and make phone calls that keep our staff informed and energized. There are not enough hours in the day but people who care manage to fit in as much as they can. I appreciate the thoughts, the efforts, the actions and the emotional support that surround all of us at TCS. Thank you for doing your part!!

We are so fortunate to have the support of our parents for
events such as this. Thank you for all you do!
