First semester is over and we are all preparing for the winter break. I want you to know what a pleasure it has been for us to partner with you for these last few months, working together to achieve goals and explore new opportunities. For those families that are new to us, you are beginning to see that we take our relationship with you and your teen very seriously! We appreciate what each of you brings to our community and we strive to celebrate each and every day. For our veteran families, our growing commitment to each other and the mutually beneficial relationship form the foundation for what makes this school work so well! Once that trust is established and we can communicate and act in the best interest of our students, the task at hand becomes not only possible, but also enjoyable! We have so much to celebrate as we review the last four months. The academic growth that our students have experienced is amazing. The confidence and energy that we see emerging, especially for our newly enrolled students, is heartwarming. Our athletic opportunities build character and pride. The community service opportunities build compassion and generosity. When the environment is safe and nurturing, the community can spend the time required to take care of more than just the math, science and language arts! Those academics are important, of course. They just aren’t the only important lessons to be learned. Of course, no journey is free of detours and pot holes. We work to keep those instances to a minimum and to protect the privacy of our teens and families who are involved in regrettable situations. From time to time a student may make a bad decision that puts their safety or the safety of others at risk. Once we become aware of the situation, our staff works quickly with the family and teen to isolate the problem, collect the facts, determine the appropriate consequence and seek a resolution. At all times our shared values of honesty and integrity underline our efforts. When a resolution is possible, we work with the family to repair any damage done to relationships or privileges. If it becomes clear that, due to dishonesty or the seriousness of the situation, a resolution is not possible, arrangements are made for an alternative school placement. This entire process is completely dependent upon the partnership we have with our parents. We are all charged with the task of keeping our kids safe. It is the honest and timely communication we enjoy with each other that allows us to quickly resolve a situation that has a negative impact on our community and to readily celebrate people and situations that contribute to our positive and healthy environment. Thank you for such a remarkable start to the school year!

Missing iPod Touch 5

High School Students:

When the High School Students attended the payoff at The Cooler last Friday, many

students left personal items lined up with their shoes and even in their shoes while they

skated. At some point during the payoff, Chip’s iPod Touch 5 disappeared from his

shoe. It is unlikely that it fell out as there were several other items still in the shoe as

he left them; however, there is always the possibility that it was accidentally mixed in

with someone else’s belongings or that it was taken.

We would like to recover the iPod Touch and make sure it is returned to Chip. If you

attended the payoff at The Cooler, please search through your belongings and double

check all items you took with you that day. The iPod may be returned to the school,

and we will make sure to deliver it to him, or it can be returned directly to Chip’s family
