Goal III Day (9/17) 5th Grade

By Anna ’26 and Claire ’26 For 5th grade goal three day, we went to TASK

[Trenton Area Soup Kitchen] to go on a tour. We got to see all the activity rooms, the kitchen, the storage room, and the dining room. Our tour guide’s name was Evie. We also packed lunch bags and utensils for the people at TASK. Our favorite part was when the class all got to go into the refrigerator and freezer. It was freezing cold. There were food and drinks inside of them. Every shelf in the pantry was full. Then, we went to the food pantry. They served meals for around 300 people. Later that day, the pantry workers gave out two birthday cakes. Our tour guide, Evie, said that once there was a man that went to TASK to eat. She overheard the man saying that it was his birthday to another man, who surprised him later with a birthday cake. He was so happy that he cried and said, “I have not a birthday cake since I was a little kid” he was so happy! This is an example of all the great things TASK does.

6th Grade

By Milla ’25

For the 6th grade goal 3 trip this fall, we went to the Hamilton Grove nursing home. We had a lot of fun with the people we visited. During the trip, we made crafts such as sparkly autumn themed door hangers, beautiful paper flowers. We also played everyone’s favorite game, balloon tennis. At the end of the trip, we performed many songs for the senior citizens to enjoy, including “This Little Light of Mine” and “America the Beautiful”. The people we visited were very happy, and we can’t wait to visit them again in the spring.

7th Grade By

Tess ’24

On Monday, September 17th, the seventh graders came prepared with gardening gloves, a fear of ticks, and an attitude ready to work in the great outdoors. After a short bus ride, we arrived at Hopewell Valley, and were informed about what we were going to do. We learned about invasive species, such as what we call thistles and that we would be pulling them out. Although it was difficult sometimes, we were able to make an impact on the environment there. Afterwards, we ate lunch on picnic benches and hung out. The whole service trip ended up being a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing it again in the spring.

8th Grade

By Hannah ’23

On September 17, the 8th grade put Goal 3 into action. They traveled to CYO East and volunteered with the preschool classes. CYO, or the Catholic Youth Organization, is a non-profit dedicated to helping families in their community by providing affordable education and recreational activities. The 8th grade got to play with the children there and assist the teachers. They pushed 5 year olds on the swings, played blocks with toddlers, and sat with the class at story time. On the playground, the 8th graders squeezed into the tiny toy house, rocked the see-saw, and got everyone into line when it was time to go in. The preschoolers were full of smiles and laughs, and occasionally even hugs. When asked what the experience meant to her, Evan Sassin, said, “It felt good to help others.” Sydney Amato recalls that she got to practice her Spanish because most of the kids in her assigned class did not speak English. This was an enriching experience not only for the preschoolers, but also for the 8th grade. They got a chance to apply Goal 3 in their lives and saw the change it made in their community.

Halloween Costumes Ideas! By Lisa ’24

Halloween is coming up soon. Which brings up an important point, what will you dress up as for Halloween? Some people usually spend weeks in advance, planning, organizing, buying, creating, the list goes on. Except for the fact that some of us procrastinate on costumes and

FALL 2018 TARTAN TIMES

must rely on guides to help find the cutest quick costumes. Here are a few cute costumes to make Halloween fun.

Number One: Pun Costumes

Some of the funniest quick costumes are the simplest ones. Pun costumes are great if you have a group to go with but, they still work fine alone too. The most popular puns are animal puns and food puns(or just any play on words). If you pick animal puns some good ideas are, the cat's pajamas, oh deer!, raining cats and dogs, and holy cow. Food also has a lot of variety. Some good food puns are, holy guacamole, cereal killer, french toast, and deviled eggs. If you manage to come up with other good ideas feel free to use them!

Number Two: A Household Object

The best Halloween costumes are sometimes the simplest. Find a random object in your house, literally ANYTHING, then use your creativity to make a cute outfit out of it! Cactus, pencil, pop tart, anything you find! Creativity is vital for these outfits. With some thought and little planning you can pull off a cute Halloween look!

Number Three: Procrastination Over Nine Thousand

If you really aren’t feeling the creativity within you, come as yourself with the flu. Put random dull, plain colored clothing that is comfortable, something you would wear if you were sick at home. Then, don’t do anything with you hair, leaving it a scruffy mess. The last step if you are truly dedicated is some dark eyeshadow underneath your eyes to look like eye bags. You won't need anything else except for some crumpled tissues, cough drops, and a cup of tea. Work on perfecting your hoarse voice along with a fake cough or two.

With these Halloween costumes you can have a wonderful outfit with little to no effort!
