What is a pun?• A pun is a play on words, usually the

assignment of different meanings to similarly sounds words or phrases, with humorous intent.

“He drove his expensive car into a tree, and saw how a Mercedes bends.”

What is a Visual Pun?

• A visual pun is an image that depicts objects, or the arrangement of objects, in such a way that the names of the objects, or their arrangement suggests a play on words.

Project

• You will designing your own visual pun. You will sketch out several brain storming ideas, will pick your favorite, and then you will depict your visual pun using your drawing skills.

STEP ONE

• 1. Pick three ideas for visual puns (use the list on the next slide, or come up with your own).

• 2. Draw several sketch ideas of how to depict these puns on the scratch paper provided. Each pun should have several different sketches.
