To support teachers to deliver high quality programmes through supporting their planning and preparation of materials. This teacher’s role has a dual academic role: they are responsible for delivering and planning engaging English lessons as part of the normal teaching programme while providing academic support for the Director as required. Job Description

Job Title: Senior Teacher (residential or non-residential)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: Kingsgate College

Line Manager: Director, Chaucer College Kingsgate

Main Purpose of the job

This teacher’s role is to work closely with the Director to develop schemes of work, materials and resources appropriate to the diverse groups in advance of the arrival of a group.

To support teachers to deliver high quality programmes through supporting their planning and preparation of materials.

This teacher’s role has a dual academic role: they are responsible for delivering and planning engaging English lessons as part of the normal teaching programme while providing academic support for the Director as required.

Responsible for adapting and developing programmes and schemes of work for the College in support of the Director Kingsgate courses.

Teaching Duties

Teaching and related duties as directed by the Director Kingsgate courses

Teachers on a full time contract (35 hours) will be timetabled to teach up to 25 hours a week to include:- Actual teaching.- Invigilating and supervising examinations.- Timetabled tutorial and supervision work with individuals or groups including scheduled trips.

Where student ratios permit, the senior teacher may be taken out of class to provide 1st cover/cover to enable peer observation/ extra administrative support to the Director.

Deliver lessons which are “good”. Hold and attend teacher development workshops, meetings and briefings as

required. Write reports as required. Keep class registers and other administrative paperwork up to date and submitted by

the deadlines set. Any other teaching duties reasonably delegated by the Director.

Academic Support

Assist the Director by providing administrative and academic support – e.g., assisting in placing students in class and preparing testing materials.

Provide the first line of support to teachers - e.g., helping them in their planning and preparation of their lessons. Providing support to teachers to help develop their skills.

Develop, plan, implement, adapt and review course programmes, schemes of work and lesson plans in liaison with the Kingsgate Director and others.

Material development and collating existing materials Preparing trip preparation materials & materials for teachers Researching venues (e.g., cost of Madame Tussauds tickets, local hotels, etc.)

working with the Transport & Bookings Coordinator. Creating and maintaining attractive displays in the college Proofing timetables and rotas Help to draft course schedules Developing syllabi and schemes of work Drafting trip tour guide notes and trip itineraries Conducting staff development sessions Helping to induct new members of staff Carrying out pre-course facilities check

Activities, excursions and pastoral care duties(Senior teachers are not usually required to take part in daytime activities due to their academic support duties)

Participate actively, enthusiastically and effectively in afternoon evening and weekend activities as required

Help source materials for afternoon, evening and weekend activities as required.

Assist in monitoring and maintaining student discipline. Ensure the safety of the students at all times. Act as the duty member of staff in absence of the Director. Work with enthusiasm and to the standard expected by Chaucer College.

Ensure that students do not breach the rules of the College. Engage with students in a friendly but professional manner. Ensure student behaviour is of the required standard and that non-accidental

damage is kept to a minimum. Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation or where a

student is ill, inured or absent without permission When instructed by the Director, arrange, transport and accompany students and

leaders to and from medical appointments as required. Transporting homestay students and luggage to and from homestay homes when

directed Welcoming new students on arrival and seeing students off for departures on a rota Be responsible for ensuring that students are safe, happy and participating both in

and out of the classroom. Senior teachers are expected to cover 1 night duty per week and cover warden duty

up to 3-nights a week Answering and responding to phone calls as required Drafting and updating room lists in conjunction with College Coordinator when

necessary Setting up computers for teachers to use and assisting with general IT issues On call 24-hours to respond to any incidents 3-days a week Warden duty timetabling where needed Other duties where directed (doing fire drills, fixing door handles, etc.) Assist at night if there are students out of their rooms, whether on duty or not.

The postholder will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business which may result in working in excess of 37.5 hours per week. When this happens ‘time off in lieu’ will be given at a later date.

Person Specification:Essential

Knowledge & Experience

Teaching Experience, English Foreign Language Teaching preferred. Minimum 3 years

Computer literate, experience using Word, Excel & Outlook.

Current experience of working with International, junior and adult students

Proven current experience of design and development of courses and learning programmes

Knowledge and experience of safeguarding issues.

Skills, abilities & attitude
