Good morning everyone,

I hope you had a lovely weekend.

I have had a lot of fun preparing this week’s lessons. I really hope you enjoy the tasks, challenges and videos.

Remember to try your best, keep that writing nice and tidy and don’t worry if anything is too tricky. You will have lots of help when you come back to school.

Lots of new names on Manahigh over the past week. Well done! If you didn’t sign up yet make sure you do. There is a leaderboard so you could try to beat your friend!! It’s great fun! I will set a new challenge each week.

Thank you to Lucas L. for his contribution to ‘We are Writers’ book. You only have two weeks left to submit your piece of writing. It will be such a special thing to be part of and a book that will go down in history in Tullydonnell as a way of remembering how we got through the school closures of 2020.

WEBSITE WONDERS:

Thank you to everyone who sent photographs of your Science and Maths Challenges in for the website. Go on and take a look in the class tab.

I also received photographs of lovely fish art and hand- made scarves last week too. You

really know how to make me smile!

IF YOU WISH TO SEND A PHOTO IN TO BE INCLUDED ON THE SCHOOL WEBSITE YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIAN MUST GIVE PERMISSION IN THE EMAIL.

****IMPORTANT: IF YOU WISH TO SEND A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOUR CHILD, WITH A PIECE OF WORK FROM THIS WEEK THAT THEY ARE VERY PROUD OF TO BE UPLOADED ONTO THE SCHOOL WEBSITE, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU GIVE PERMISSION IN THE EMAIL. ***

Some more things to remember for this week:

PROJECT TIME!!!!! Each week I will allocate one or two slots for work on an end of year project. Your child can choose any topic for the project. Is there a topic that they have a great interest in and would like to research further?Decide on 5 or 6 sub- headings for the chosen topic and work on one sub- heading per week. I have given ideas of layout and further information on Wednesday’s work.

We are back to our Oxford Readers this week Go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on My Class login at the top of the page.

Go up or down the age group if reader is too difficult, too easy. Remember reading is not just about reading the words with fluency and expression, but most importantly it’s about comprehension (reading for understanding) . Therefore question your child on what they have read before moving onto a new reader.

Spelling sheet and wordmat are included. This is our final week working on our new words for our next class reader. The children will start the book next week.

P.E. continues to be part of each day’s timetable. Go to the Active School tab on the website for lots of fun activities. Getting active each day is very important.

Ms. Lynch and Mrs. Hurson have asked me to inform you that there are extra supports available to all pupils in the Learning Support folders on the school website. There are KAHOOT! Quizzes here based on our English work.

Mangahigh , a maths site is up and running for everyone. Well done to all that have already signed up. I recommend anyone who has not signed up yet to do so. It is great fun! This will be our Maths Warm Up this week. You can find the link on the text from the school.

You will need to access Abair Liom resources this week again on https://www.folensonline.ie/registration/

The closing date for entries for ‘We are Writers’ task is May 29th . You might like to put this task in, in place of a different lesson one of the days.

I hope all of your tasks go well for you this week. The answer sheet is available on the website to use daily.

Ms. Keegan

2. Topic: Subtraction

If you have found the subtraction easy so far I want you to try these subtraction with renaming sums. If however, it is too difficult I have given an easier option too.

Do you remember what renaming means? It means we rename units into sets of ten.

We can also go the other way if we need to and give a set of ten back to the units.

In subtraction renaming can be called regrouping , borrowing or trading.

18

Also available on the ebook for Abair Liom D page 92

You can also try this drama with any toys you have at home and just swap the words.

e.g. An maith leat an teidí ?

Is maith liom an teidí.

Tá an rothar seo go hálainn.

Take a look at this video. It will explain renaming or regrouping https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Buyaqe_L5-Y

We can’t take 8 blocks from 3 blocks.

So we take regroup.

Take a set of ten and add it to the 3 units. 10 + 3 =13

Now that we have take a set of ten away. There are only 6 tens on top now.

Topic: Creative Writing/ PoetryYesterday we read a clever poem about the moon. I wonder how the mice got up to the moon? Did they have a rocket?

Today I want you to write a short story or a poem about a trip to the moon. Here are some things to think about before you get started. You might even want to do a story plan using pictures.

Where did you get/ find the rocket? What does it look like? What adjectives would you use to describe it? Why did you want to go to the moon? Did you go alone? How did it feel as the rocket took off? How long did it take you to get to the moon? What could you see and hear? How could you prove to people you really were on the moon?

Useful words: (ask an adult for more words to add in here) rocket shiny metallic huge loud noisy sky clouds moon rocks dust craters scared zoomed rattled crashed landed silent photographs
