The Department for Education are releasing letters and sounds sessions for reception and year 1 at 10am each day. It is on youtube and is called Letter and Sounds for Home and School.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw/featured?disable_polymer=1 The session may not match the specific phonics focus that we have each week, however they look like they will be useful for children to recap their learning. Although new sessions are released at 10am each day, if you miss a day the sessions will still be available for you to watch.

Topic work This week project is an RE topic based on Judaism, please see attached plan and resources.

Maths

Main Focus – Doubling and HalvingIn the EYFS children need to be able to double numbers up to 10. (E.g. 1+1, 5+5, 10+10) and share in halve numbers up to 20. As always activities should be as practical as possible, it is important that children are able to count out groups of objects and then physically double and share the objects to see how many there are. Attached below are some activity ideas you could use at home, please use and adapt as necessary. If is really important that that they are able to talk about what they are doing, using words like double, half, share, same, groups. So please encourage them to explain what they have been doing to you.

Start with working on using numbers up to 10 and move onto number above 10, when they are confident at know how to double and halve.

Children are not expected to learn any formal written methods and are not necessarily expected to be able to write their own calculations. However, if children are able to record some of their learning then please encourage them to do so.

E.g – 4+4=8 or 6+6=12

Extra things you could do Use the link below to explore and carry out

Maths learning activities on the twinkl home hub.

Use the link below to explore and carry out activities on the White Rose website linked to Summer term week 4.

Continue to access Mathletics and complete allocated tasks. Children are not limited to just completing their assigned tasks, but they should complete these first before exploring other tasks.

Keep practising recognising and writing numbers to 20.

Try solving some problems on the Nrich maths website. https://nrich.maths.org/13778

Reading Continue reading to your Superhero toy to make sure that their Superpowers stay strong. Read or share a book with it for a least 10 mins day or

longer if you choose. Read a variety of different story books and information books. Make a reading den and use it to share stories with your Superhero toy or someone else in your family. Read and share stories with as many people as you can. You could even phone or video call someone in your family and ask them to read you a story

or you could read to them. Continue to access Reading Eggs website and complete allocated tasks. Children are not limited to just completing their assigned tasks, but they

should complete these first before exploring other tasks. Continue to practise reading and recognising phase 3 and 4 tricky words.

Phonics Look at words that end with nd, mp and lp. Practise writing the blends in different ways, say the blends as you write them. You could write them using your finger, mark making tools, different

pens and pencils. Try writing in different sizes, different colours. Try writing in chalk or water. Draw or find pictures to match the words below and then write the words next to them

band/send/kind/pond lamp/camp/jump/bump help/yelp/gulp/scalp

Write the words on separate pieces of paper and sort them into groups depending on whether they have nd, mp or lp in them. Write the words above as many times as you can in a minute or 30 secs, write them in different colours or use magnetic letters. Choose some of the words and try to write them in a sentence, how many words can you get in one sentence. Play games on phonics play website https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ In resources choose, phase 4, CVCC words and sets 1-7. Learn to read the words – have & like Learn to spell the words – he, she, me and we

Useful websites:

Twinkl – home learning hub – you may have to sign up to access some of the resources, however at the moment you should be able to access some useful resources for free.

Phonics play – this is another website that has made resources and games available for free, it has lots of phonics and reading games that we use in school. As a general rule, Reception should be focusing on phase 3 games at the moment and they will begin to move into phase 4. Year 1 should focus on phase 5 games, but could look at phase 3 and 4 games to recap their learning.

Busy things – this is a website we use in school a lot and it has lots of brilliant games. It is not free, however, at the moment they are offering a free trial or a cheaper price than normal.

BBC Bitesize - re-cap of phase 2 and 3 sounds and tricky words.

Doubling and HalvingYou could begin your work on doubling by watching the numberblocks episode Duble Trouble! https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08q4jkq/numberblocks-series-2-double-trouble

If you do not have a printer you could simply draw 1 ladybird and use counters or smarties!

For a bit more of a challenge try writing some word problems for your child to solve.

If you have mirror this is a fun way for children to see and make doubles. They may wish to record their answers but it is not an expectation.

You could make a Halving Mat with on paper or chalk outside. Roll a dice or choose a number. Place objects in the big box and then share out between the two smaller squares to find the answer.

https://mathszone.co.uk/category/number-facts-x%C3%B7/doubling-and-halving/

If you like getting messy with paints then this might be the doubling activity for you!

These are really fun to create and have around the garden or inside.

Part Part Whole. Have equal number of object in the two lower circles and then combine in the top one to find the total. Eg2 + 2 = 4 3+3= 6

You could use chalk to make the circles outside.
