This week we are going to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.

There are 4 stages of a butterfly’s life cycle.

Today we are going to learn about the 1st stage: The egg.

Butterflies lay their eggs on leaves. The eggs are white and round.

Let’s create butterfly eggs on a leaf.

Trace your hand and color it in to create a leaf. Rip small piece of white paper and crumble them. Glue the white crumbled paper on the leaf to represent the butterfly’s eggs.

When finished label your work: Leaf and Egg

MATH- Review numbers 1-7Number of the week: 9

Have your child count household items such as: beans, seeds, cereal, pasta, and toys.

Request a number of items and have your child count and correspond with the items.

Write out the numbers 1-9 and have your child choose a number, identify it, and count object or draw pictures to correspond with the number.

LITERACY- Letter of the week: /O/ (review sound of the letter)

Have the children point the letter out in books.

Help your child find items around the house that start with that letter.

Have the children cut out pictures from a magazine that start with that letter and create a collage.

When caterpillars hatch they are very hungry. So they eat the leaves around them.

Caterpillars need to eat a lot in order to go into the next stage of transformation. They crawl around to find more leaves to eat. Once they have had enough to eat they transform into a Chrysalis.

Yesterday we learned that when the caterpillars hatch they are very hungry, so they eat a lot of leaves. Once the caterpillar is big enough it stops eating.

They find a strong branch to hang from and form a protective layer around them called the cocoon. This is the 3rd stage of the cycle called the CHRYSALIS.

During the chrysalis stage the caterpillar is called the pupa. The pupa goes through many CHANGES
