LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY STAGE 1: BUTTERFLY EGGS A butterfly starts life as a very small, round egg. The egg shape depends on the type of butterfly that laid the egg. Butterfly eggs are usually laid on the leaves of plants. STAGE 2: LARVAE The eggs will hatch into tiny larvae called caterpillars. Caterpillars eat a lot of leaves so that they can grow. They eat non-stop to gain more energy for growth. Their body covering is hard (exoskeleton) and does not stretch or grow so the caterpillars must moult several times to shed their old skin in order to grow bigger . STAGE 3: PUPA As soon as the caterpillar reached their full length, it will form a pupa. During this stage, the pupa does not eat and move. A great transformation is happening inside the pupa ! STAGE 4: ADULT This transformation is known as metamorphosis and the adult butterfly will emerge from the pupa after some time. At first, the wings would be folded and soft. The butterfly will start pumping blood into its new wings to get them working. Once its wings are strong enough, the butterfly will fly away in search of food.

LIFE CYCLE OFA COCKROACH

STAGE 1:COCKROACH EGGSThe cockroach life cycle starts with eggs.Generally shaped like a kidney bean orpurse, the egg case is either carried by themother or placed in a protected locationuntil hatching. The female deposits the eggcapsule in a protected location preferablynear a food source.

STAGE 2: NYMPHNewly hatched cockroaches come outfrom eggs as nymphs. During this stage, the insects grow by shedding their skinmultiple times until reaching adulthood,a process known as moulting. Aftereach moulting, the nymph grows in sizeand length.. Nymphs look alike to adults except thatthey do not have wings yet.

STAGE 3: ADULTWhen a cockroach is at the adultstage, it stops moulting anddevelops a pair of wings.Once they reached adult stage, they will look for a mate toreproduce. An adult female can lay300 - 400 eggs in its lifetime.

LIFE CYCLE OFA FROG

STAGE 1: FROG EGGSFrogs are amphibians, which meansthat they can live in water or on land. They go through several stages ofdevelopment before they becomeadult frogs and during its youngstage, they live only in water.A frogbegins life as a fertilized egg. Afemale frog lays a lot of eggs at onetime in a pond. The eggs float onwater in a jelly cluster. The eggs willsoon hatch into tadpoles!

STAGE 2: YOUNGWhen the tadpole hatches, it doesn’thave any legs! It has gills that allow it tobreathe underwater. The tadpole swims, eats plants and algae from the water, and grows for several weeks.During thistime, the tadpole starts to develop lungsso it will be able to breathe out of thewater when it becomes a frog. Thetadpole starts to grow two front legs andits long tail becomes shorter and shorter. The tadpole uses the nutrients stored inits tail as food, so until its tail iscompletely gone, it doesn’t needanything else to eat! Then just a littlestub of its tail is left, and the tadpole is ayoung frog. It hops right out of the waterand onto dry land for the first time! Thefrog is still very small.. .

STAGE 3: ADULTThe adult frog breathes with lungsand has no tail. The frog will mostlylive on land and eats insects andworms. Later these new frogs willmate and the whole life cyclebegins again.
