Section BThese questions will be based on the subject content listed in
your revision booklets. It will test your subject knowledge and understanding and is worth about 75% of the paper marks.

Embroidery
Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as metal strips, pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. Embroidery is most often used on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, stockings, and golf shirts. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn colour.
Traditional Indian Decorative Techniques
BeadingBeadwork is the art or craft of attaching beads to one another by stringing them with a sewing needle or beading needle and thread or thin wire, or sewing them to cloth. Beads come in a variety of materials, shapes and sizes.
MirrorsShisheh embroidery, or mirror-work, is a
type of embroidery which attaches small pieces of mirrors reflect metal to fabric. Mirror embroidery is spread throughout Asia, and today can be found in the traditional embroidery of India, Pakistan, Afganistan, China and Indonesia.
Block printingWoodblock printing is a technique for printing text, images or patterns used widely throughout East Asia and originating in China in antiquity as a method of printing on textiles and later paper.

Initial ideas
Sketch two different initial design ideas for a textile product. DO NOT USE COLOUR
The Textile product must:
• Be based on the theme ‘INDIA’• include a range of fabrics and components• Include a range of decorative techniques
There are 6 marks for each design idea. Marks will be given for:
• Creativity and originality of idea based upon the theme. 2 Marks
• Use of a range of decorative techniques 2 Marks
• Quality of Notes and sketches. 2 Marks
Choose one of your design ideas for development.
Final design
Use sketches, labelling and notes to present a final design in colour for your product. Use an A3 pages to show your textile product . Include a front, back and side view. Marks will be given for:
• Use of the INDIA theme ( 2 Marks )
• Use of fabrics and components ( 5 Marks )
• Creativity and quality of design ( 4 Marks )•
• Effective use of colour ( 2 Marks )
• Quality of presentation including different views of the product ( 3 Marks )
