As part of the Department of Education's policy, a group of schools each year are nominated to participate in an external validation process. This provides an opportunity for schools to discuss their judgements about their practice – and the evidence that underpins them – with a panel of peers. Embedding effective self-assessment practices will mean that schools are well positioned to identify and annotate their most significant pieces of evidence for submission to the validation panel. Warnervale PS will participate in the External Validation process in 2020. Ms Carter is at present on the far north coast participating as a Peer Principal in this process at two schools. Congratulations to Oliver Mc of 4J who was recognised as the overall Stage 2 recipient of the Central Coast Public Speaking competition. What an exceptional achievement! Over 40 schools entered the competition, with 85 students in the final two rounds. Olivers speech titled Empathy: A quality we need more ofwas well-researched and thought provoking. I would like to take this opportunity to formally congratulate two of our supportive parents, Sarah Wilson and Celeste Shorter who will be receiving awards at The Central Coast Appreciation Awards ceremony. Both Sarah and Celeste have contributed to our schools P&C and supported our school and students in a variety of ways. We are very grateful for your tireless efforts. Our students are our number one priority. It was brought to our attention recently, of unsafe practices of students walking home from school. Students 3-6 were addressed in a recent assembly of the seriousness of students endangering themselves and others by playing a Game of Chickenwith vehicles. I am relieved to write that we have had no reports of this reckless behaviour since this was addressed, however, we would greatly appreciate your support in discussing with your children the importance of crossing at lights or the school crossing and remaining on the pathways to arrive safely home. Earlier this year our Year 4, 5 and 6 students participated in a Tell Them From Me survey in Term 1. We will be asking the students to complete the survey again in Week 8 of this term which will allow us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The survey is completely confidential and will be conducted online. An opt out form will be available via FlexiBuzz, if you do not wish your child to participate in the survey. Zone Athletics Carnival will be going ahead tomorrow August 29, rain or shine. Mrs Wilkins and Ms Harris are looking forward to supporting over 50 students attending. We wish all of our students the best of luck showcasing their skills. The 2019 Book Week theme is Reading is my Superpower’. In Week 8, Tuesday September 10 – Thursday September 12 the Scholastic Book Fair will be open for book purchases. Our Book Parade will take place on Friday September 13, commencing at 9:30am. A classroom visit and sausage sizzle picnic lunch will follow the parade. We look forward to sharing a love of reading as a whole school community and dressing up as our favourite book characters. We wish all of our Fathers, Uncles and Pas a very happy Father s Day this Sunday. Our Fathers Day Stall will be operating Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
