From the Acting Principal Dear Families, On Wednesday August 31, Pam Adam, Assistant Principal, Leechelle Jones, Kara Laskazeski, Deidre Edward and Guy Glover, Transition teachers, and I, presented information to families interested in transitioning their children from Preschool to Wanguri Primary School in 2012. We know that parents want their children to be safe and happy at school and to learn to their full potential. Wanguri families were invited to a Father’s Day Breakfast last Friday morning followed by our assembly. It was great to see so

many families come along and enjoy a fantastic breakfast. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time preparing the food

and arriving at school from 6.00 am onwards to set up, cook and serve. We hope our dad’s enjoyed their gifts which were

purchased from the Father’s Day Stall during the day on Friday.

BIKE SECURITY

Thank you for bringing in your dockets. We have approx 2100 points so far which is a fantastic effort from our community. Please keep collecting as the Earn & Learn reward program is open until 18 Sep-tember.

Once again this week our Coles Voucher box is overflowing. Thank you very much to every one who has sent in their vouchers. The Coles Sports for Schools program closes on 18 October so keep bringing in your vouchers.

Please remember that the staff car park is NOT a student drop off zone.

There are two student drop off zones available for parents. The council car park, near the lay-by on Gsell Street and our new purpose built’ covered drop off zone on Wanguri Terrace. In the interest of student safety and in line with the school’s duty of care, please use the designated drop off zones only.

Thank you

for your cooperation

The Importance of Reading Widely Sharing lots of different kinds, or genre, of books with your child exposes them to different words, different pictures, and whole new worlds. Below are some genres to try with your reader that complement ‘traditional’ fiction. Some are suggestions that can be used as read alouds, other may be ones your child can read. Fantasy/Science Fiction From talking dogs to imaginary underground worlds, fantasy books contain elements that are not possible in real life. J. K. Rowling and Lemony Snicket are both authors to consider within the fantasy genre. Historical Fiction Well written historical fiction helps past events come alive for children. With topics as wide ranging as pioneer life and ancient civilizations, books within this genre awaken the historian in any child. Biography Biographies have a way of inspiring kids. The best ones introduce famous inventors, educators and scientists in a way that helps kids identify with the person. Informational Books What makes a volcano erupt? How tall is the tallest man? Where does the word pumpkin come from? Kids ask many questions, and reference books help them find the answers. When choosing reference books for your child, make sure they were recently written and seem to contain accurate information. Poetry Poetry just isn’t as widely read as it should be. Several children’s poets have collections that will make your child howl with laughter. Poetry is often shorter too, which makes the task of reading less overwhelming for new or reluctant readers. Whatever you choose to read with your child, make it an enjoyable experience. Have fun visiting that magical place, getting to know that famous person, finding the answers to questions, and reading with the rhythm of poetry.

For specific titles, visit; www.ReadingRockets.org/books/booksbytheme Recommended Books are arranged by theme.

Little Accidents

Occasionally some of our younger students come to the front office after having had a 'little accident' and we do our best to provide them with alternative clothing. We have a limited supply of sizing. To reduce student embarrassment and inconvenience to parents when requested to bring clothes, we suggest parents keep a complete set of spare clothes in their student's bag, inside a plastic bag, at all times.

The wet season is near and a set of spare clothes, inside a waterproof bag, would be a great idea for all students and avoid parent inconvenience in the event students get caught in the rain.

If you have borrowed clothes from the school , please return them as soon as possible. Thank you.
