JUNIOR SYNDICATE NEWS Pirate Day In the Junior Syndicate we have been having such fun learning all about pirates! The super writers in Room 9 have been creating some amazing pirate stories! We hope you enjoy a sample of our wonderful writing! “This is Pirate Amalia. She has a ship and boots. She makes bad pirates walk the plank. They were rough pirates. The good pirates lived happily ever after.”

- by Amalia “Long, long ago there was a pirate called Cap-tain Hook. He was a mean pirate. He searched for gold. He found the treasure and lived happily ever after.”

- by Ollie K “Once upon a time there was a pirate. He lived on a beach. He was a very mean pirate. He hated people. "Arrrrr me hearties!" His name was Lightning.”

Congratulations Zane!

“Every Saturday I play rugby for Kai-korai. Last week we won 80-35. It is fun to play and I really enjoy playing rug-by. I got player of the day. I set up one try and made five tack-les.” by Zane

IMPORTANT NEWS School Donations School donation invoices went home with your child recently. Here are some FAQ about the do-nations: Q: Have I not already paid this? A: Most families have not. The payment at the start of the year included stationery and the activity fee (for class trips). We delay the dona-tion invoices to allow families to take a ‘breather’ after the large costs associated with the start of the year. Q: What does the donation cover? A: The donation helps the school purchase resources that might otherwise not be possible. Q: How can I pay the donation? A: There are many ways to pay—cheque, cash, EFTPOS, direct credit or by instalment. Q: Can I claim back this donation in my tax? A: Yes. You can claim 33% of the amount paid. For more information on tax credits go to https://www.ird.govt.nz/income-tax-individual/tax-credits/dch-taxcredits Q: I have an automatic payment going. Does the donation automatically come off my account? A: No. We need your permission to take the donation off your account. Please let the office staff know if you wish to pay the donation. Snow and Icy Days Thank you to all who supported our decision on Monday to close the school due to snow. Please keep in mind the following when it comes to icy or snow days: 1. The message on our phone is generic. The

default call is to start at 10am, however this can change (after daybreak) if the situation does not improve (as seen on Monday).

2. For updates on the situation, you need to go to our website or Facebook page.

Book Week We are having a Book Week in Week 8. There will be lots of exciting activities happening around the school to promote reading and writ-ing. Some activities will involve the whole school and some will happen in syndicates or individual classes.

Book Swap One of the activities will be a Book Swap Day which will take place on Tuesday 9 June. Chil-dren may bring along a book to swap. The book must be good condition, with no pages missing. Children can bring their book to the hall before school where they will get a stamp which will al-low them to return at lunchtime to choose a book to take home. Dress Up Day On Friday 12 June we will have a dress up day to celebrate all the exciting things we have been doing during Book Week. Children may dress up as a favourite book character for the day.

COMMUNITY NEWS Wakari Kindy Garage Sale Wakari Kindergarten will be holding a garage sale on Saturday 6th June from 9am until mid-day. Come along for some great bargains and support our local Kindy. Thank You We would like to thank Sue Eade for her dona-tion of a number of woollen hats for the children to wear on cold days.

Pirate Day (continued from page 2)

“Far, far away there was a bad pirate. When people came on his ship he says "Walk the plank in to the deep sea!" Crocodiles live in the deep, deep sea. The pirate looked and

looked for gold and had a sharp sword. They went to an island and he dug and dug until he found gold. They sailed away. The treasure fell out of the boat and the captain cried and cried for the gold. The pirate wanted it but he couldn't get it.”
