Phase II Timeline
FACT SHEET VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II Project
Program OverviewVTA’s BART Silicon Valley Program is expanding Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) service into Santa Clara County, bringing frequent and reliable regional rail service to over 1.7 million county residents.
Funded and managed by VTA in cooperation with BART, VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Program includes a 16-mile, six-station extension. The Program is being constructed in two phases. Phase I (the Berryessa Extension), opening in 2020, extends 10 miles south from the Warm Springs/South Fremont station and adds two new stations: Milpitas and Berryessa/North San José.
Phase IIVTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II Project is a six-mile, four-station extension that will bring BART train service from Berryessa/North San José through downtown San José to the City of Santa Clara. Phase II is planned to include an approximately five-mile tunnel, three underground stations (28th Street/Little Portugal, Downtown San José, and Diridon), one ground-level station (Santa Clara), and a maintenance facility.
