  • Use of Passive

    when the focus is on the action

    it is not important or not known who or what is performing the action.

    Example: My bike was stolen.

    In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know who did it.

  • Steps in forming a passive sentence

    5. Add the S in a by phrase to the end of the sentence, if required

    4. Apply the rule: be + past participle (-ed/irreg.)

    Note: be is in the same tense as V under 2, MV is in the pp

    3. Move the O to the beginning of the sentence
