It’s a rare time in Tennessee when both the state and national conferences are in the state within a month of each other. This has happened only once before; and, because of the great hospitality of your fellow TSNA members, the Annual National Conference (ANC) was one of the best SNA had ever had. When it was decided to once again have a conference in Tennessee, people from across the nation were very excited to be coming back to the Volunteer State.
The leadership team wants to encourage you to register to attend the na-tional conference in Nashville and Gatlinburg. Let’s show the nation that Tennessee is just a friendly: and hospitable as the last time ANC came to the state. If we have any members that are interested in helping work in the ANC, Linda Becker, Sumner County probably could probably use you. Give Linda a call or email and see if she can match you up with those duties that still need to have people assigned. And, if you do help with ANC, you will receive a 50% reduction in your registration fee for the national confer-ence in Nashville. Mt. View Elementary in Nashville always has something going on to promote school breakfast and lunch
For Dr. Seuss's Birthday Dianne Carney at Mt. View Elementary in Nashville dressed up as the cat in the hat, performed magic tricks and served green eggs and ham.
For NSBW Dianne Carney and JoKimberly Harris at Mt. View Elementary in Nashville portrayed the characters on the NSBW posters while serving breakfast. Ms Carney, dressed as the breakfast de-tective, encouraged students to eat a healthy school breakfast. For National Nutrition Month Dianne Carney at Mt. View Elementary in Nashville gave one on one instruction for parents who wanted to learn more about eating healthy.

Jackson - Madison County Gets Distinguished Visitor
Dr. Janey Thornton, USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, visited the Jackson-Madison County School System on March 17, 2011. Dr. Thornton observed a USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program at Arlington Elementary School. UT Extension Service conducted a nutrition lesson that identified what part of a plant different fruits and vegetables are found. Dr. Thornton spoke with the children as they made salads from the variety of fresh fruits and vegetables shown. She continued to share with the children as they ate the salads that they made. Dr. Thornton discussed other aspects of the JMCSS School Nutrition Program with the school staff and media. Dr. Thornton was particularly interested in the JMCSS Breakfast in the Classroom Program that is implemented in 21 of the 28 schools in the district. She is a strong advocate of Breakfast in the Classroom. Dr. Thornton praised the school sys-tem for increasing student breakfast participation from 29% to 67%. This occurred as school administrators made the decision to implement the program over the last 8 years. Dr. Thornton also praised the school nutrition department for purchasing hydroquantic lettuce that was grown by stu-dents at Liberty Technology Magnet High School. Dr. Thornton enjoyed a fresh chef salad that was made using the let-tuce produce by JMCSS high school students. Her visit was very encouraging and brought awareness to the school nutri-tion program in the JMCSS.

Lookout Mountain School celebrate a St. Patrick’s Day promotion
Dr. Suess is celebrated in Hamilton Country also. Thing 1 and Thing 2 visited East Ridge Elementary for lunch and to play with the students on Thursday. On Wednesday the students celebrated Dr. Suess’s birthday with cupcakes, banners and streamers and green eggs and ham on Tuesday and Krazy Hat Friday from Hilda Clark.

Marion County Increases Participation
Jasper Elementary School annual fifties day, in Marion County. Participation rose to 79 stu-dents for lunch. Lunch was served in car boxes, fifties music was played and teachers, sup-port staff and the principal dressed up. SNP manager, Lajuana Layne and her staff worked tirelessly to make this day a success. Thanks to everyone involved.

Henderson County Creates Interest in School Meals
Students decorate the cafeteria at Scotts Hill Elementary School
A family activity night was planned with healthy snacks, blood pressure checks, exercise and infor-mation booths with handouts. A Wii was set up for the students and adults. A fantastic free night for all to enjoy.
