Simply put, a Buzzcard is yourform of ID at Georgia Tech. Italso allows you entry into variouson-campus buildings and servesas a credit card for various typesof GT currency. is isnt youraverage high school ID card thatyou had to wear on a lanyard - itsso much more than that.

Getting your Buzzcard, thatgolden ticket to just about every-

thing on campus, is one of therst permanent things you will doas a Tech student on the secondday of FASET. And if youve ar-rived with dreams of redeningyourself, you want to make sureyou get that photo right.

Its almost certain that the af-ternoon youre scheduled to takeyour Buzzcard photo will fall ona day of sweltering heat with re-

cord setting humidity. Knowingthat, make sure you give your haira little extra gel or spritz hairsprayto ght against a crazy hair day(and girls, I would suggest keep-ing some powder in your purse forsome last minute shine control).

Another handy tip; take yourFASET lanyard o before yourpicture, or risk forever lookinglike a freshman. And smile pretty!

    Lets face itparking at Tech

is expensive. For 2013-2014, theprice of parking passes has risento just over $700. But should thatdeter you from bringing your carto campus?

Having your car on campusgives you plenty of freedom whilehere at Tech. Atlantas only publictransportation is MARTA, a railand bus system that, while useful, has a limited number of stations.Getting around the city, whetherits to go to a concert or just topick up some groceries, necessi-

tates having a car or at least mak-

ing a friend who has a car on cam-pus. Plus, if you live fairly close tocampus but too far away to takeMARTA, its nice to be able to gohome when you want (or whenyou dont feel like doing yourown laundry) without having toask someone to travel to Atlantato pick you up. Finally, while itmight seem a little lazy, being ableto drive across campus after a longnight of studying at the library isquicker and safer than walkingback to your dorm late at night.

    ere are some downsides to

bringing your car to college: itsan extra responsibility, someonecould break in, your friends makeyou drive them places and yousave $700 by leaving your car athome. Plenty of students choosenot to have a car on campus andthey are just ne. Alternatives in-clude riding a bike, taking advan-tage of the Stinger buses or just

walking. Whether you bring a carto campus really depends on ifyou want the freedom to go whereyou want when you want.

Biking is another way to getaround Techs campus.

Tech, and in turn Midtown, does a decent job of catering to bi-

cyclists through their establishedbike lanes on the major roadsaround campus. In fact, just overa year ago, it was recognized as aBike Friendly University with asilver rating.

Tech also has a few bike racksaround campus, but they can

sometimes get a little crowded.e biggest downside to bik-

ing is the threat of getting yourbike stolen. ough not common,

it does happen occasionally. Ifyou plan on brining your bike tocampus, make sure to bring somesort of bike lock to decrease yourchances of being a victim of biketheft, as well as registering it with-the Georgia Tech Police Depart-ment (GTPD).

IMPORTANT PLACESFOR INCOMING FRESHMENOnce considered the premier

dining hall on campus before theNorth Avenue Dining Hall came,

WoodruDining Hall, aection-ally called Woodys, is the bestplace to eat for those residing on

    West Campus.

    1: WOODYS

Since the SAC Fields next tothe CRC began their renovations, the Burger Bowl has become theplace to go for outdoor recreationthis summer. However, it is a greatspot to play football, ultimate orsoccer when the SAC elds arefully occupied by other students.

    2. BURGER BOWL

e best place for outdoorsports, the Student Athletic Cen-ter (SAC) elds are home to manyclub sports and the GT bandspractices, as well as outdoor intra-mural games. ey are currently

being rennovated, and should beready to use in the fall.

    3. SAC FIELDS

e Campus Recreation Cen-ter (CRC) is one of the best col-lege recreational facilities in thenation - so much, in fact, thatTech was ranked No. 1 in athleticfacilities for the CRC in 2011.Personal training, group tnessclasses, a rock wall and multiple

    4. THE CRC

indoor sports courts are just someof the amenities this building of-fers. When classes start picking upand stress piles on, this is the placeto be to keep yourself healthy dur-ing the semester.

Taking a big math or physicsclass at Tech? Of course you are.Chances are, as a freshman, youllbe entering this building multipletimes during the week. Take asneak peek into a room where you

will take notes, exams, numbersfrom the opposite sex and, sadlybut inevitably, naps.

    5. HOWEY

e heart of campus to some, the Student Center is a conglom-erate composed of restaurants, ashopping store, study spots, theStudent Government Associa-tions oce and a Crafts Center.

Whether it be to g rab your dailydose of Chik-l-A, Taco Bell or

Subway, or to watch a soccer gameon the relaxing leather chairs onthe second oor, the Student Cen-ter will be a place that you visitand walk through routinely.

    6. STUDENT CENTER

    7. TECH GREENTech Green is exactly as the

name suggests. Okay, maybenot exactly, but its a large grassysquare between the CULC andthe Student Center. Grab a blan-

ket, take a frisbee, some friendsand youve got yourself a stressfree zone to relax and enjoy.

    8. THE CULCWhile the administration

may refer to the Clough Under-gradaute Learning Commons as

Clough Commons, students havehistorically called it the CULC.Designed to be a place for under-graduates to study and take corelab sciences and other core class-es, the CULC is truly a centralhub for students. Its connection(fourth-oor) to the library, as

well as the full-service Starbuckson the second oor, will make youcome to this two-year-old estab-lishment many times during the

week. Oh, and theres a roof gar-den on the top of the building.

    9. SKILESAectionately known as Stinky

Smelly Skiles, this building housesthe math department and much of

the Ivan Allen College of LiberalArts. Your math recitations will, with 99 percent certainty, takeplace in this building.

    10. BRITTAINBrittain Dining Hall main-

tains the reputation of being openSaturday mornings, which may bethe little edge it has over the North

Avenue Dining Ha ll. However, itis home to an outstanding omelet

bar and a burrito line. Dont missout the holiday festivities it oers,as well as breakfast for dinnernights close to the time ofnals.

T: TECHNIQUEe Technique oce is located
