Tripathy appointed as the Vice- Chancellor of FMU Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy has joined as the Vice-Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University (FMU). Prior to this, he was serving as a professor and Head of the Department of Personnel Man- agement & Industrial Relations (PM&IR), Utkal University. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal appointed Profes- sor Tripathy after an interview held in the Governors office followed by a notification from the Governors office regarding the selection of Prof. Tripathy for the post. He will serve the university for a period of four years from the day he assumed the office. Professor Tripa- thy is known as an accomplished acade- mician and an able administrator. In his teaching career spanning over 30 years he has published many books and re- search articles.He has successfully guid- ed 17 Ph.D. and 40 M.Phil. Scholars. VARSITY ON THE GOFOR ENSU- ING NAAC VISIT ADMISSION OPENS FOR ODISHA COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES The dateline for admission to various P.G. programs through Common PG Entrance Test (CPET) was announced by Higher Education Department of Odisha Government on 29th July, 2021. The last date for application is 14th Aug, 2021. The Entrance exami- nation is between 23rd Aug 2021 to 3rd September 2021. Higher Educa- tion Department, Govt. of Odisha is conducting the CPET since academic year 2020 to streamline the process of admission to various PG Programs in Colleges and Government Universities of the State. This has brought in a lot of diversities in terms students as they come from various parts of the state. UNIVERSITIES TO OPEN FOR CLASS ROOM TEACHING After a break of nearly three months, Universities across Odisha will reopen for classroom teaching from 16th of August 2021. This has been decided by Higher Education Department Govt. of Odisha. Fakir Mohan University is gearing up for National Assessment and Accredi- tation Council (NAAC) visit in the year 2022. Development and renova- tion works in the campus are in pro- gress as the university is aiming for a higher level of accreditation by the National Council. A prolonged absence of students from the campus due to the pandemic has created a void in the aca- demic environment of the University. Lack in the availability of manual workers and labour force during the crisis has slowed down the pace of— development works in the campus. The university was accredited with B+ by NAAC in its last visit in the year 2016. Since then a lot of initiatives have been taken up by the University to im- prove its grade in terms of academic excellence and infrastructural availabili- ties in the campus. The university is also focusing on documentation of its pro- gress in the last few years in terms of research and innovation to pitch for a better grade by the National Council in its visit in the year 2022. Internal Complaint Com- mittee Reconstituted The Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of the University has been recon- stituted. The committee will work for the prevention, prohibition and re- dressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students of the Univer- sity. The committee constitutes of 10 members with Dr. Sonali Das as its Chairperson.

Fakir Mohan University observed its 23rd Foundation Day

Fakir Mohan University observed its 23rd Foundation day on 11th July 2021. The university was established on the same day 23 years back in 1999. A meeting was organized in the confer-ence hall of Post Graduate Council of the University to celebrate the occasion. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa. Former Vice-Chancellor of Ravenshaw University Prof. Prakash Ch. Sadangi was the Chief Guest on this occasion where as Mryutyunjay Mohapatra, Director of the Indian Meteorological Department who is also known as the cyclone man of India was the guest of honor. On this occasion, Balasore born Tapash Kumar Mishra, who is also a professor in Lon-

-don and International Chess Player from Bhadrak Sidhanta Mohapatra were given “Vyasa Gaurav” title by the University . The program started with a welcome note by Prof. Munesh Chandra Adhi-kary, Post Graduate Council Chairman followed by Kukumina Das, Registrar of the University who informed about the various academic and developmen-tal works in the University. The program ended with a formal vote of thanks by Pabitra Mohan Nayak, Development Officer of the University. Faculty, staffs and students of the uni-versity attended the meeting virtually.

APAB Students Qualify JEST

Three students from Applied Physics and Ballistics, a one of its kind depart-ment in the entire country have qualified for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST). The JEST is conducted for ad-mission to Ph.D. programs in Physics in various participating institutes of the country. The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) recognizes JEST as a National Eligibility Test (NET).

Admission Open for Three Years Integrat-ed B.Ed- M.Ed (SFC) Programme Eligible students can now apply for admission into Three Years B.Ed-M.Ed Integrated programme of Fakir Mohan University. The programme is carried out as a Self Financing Course. Appli-cation forms are available in the univer-sity website. The last date for submis-sion of application is 15th September 2021.

FMU Students Find Place in Institute of Re-pute in India and Abroad for Higher Studies Eight students from the Department of Applied Physics and Ballistics, (APAB)Fakir Mohan University have been en-rolled in various Institutions of National and International repute for their higher studies in the academic year 2021-22. Most of the students have been enrolled in various IITs. In the academic year 2020-2021, a total number of 12 stu-dents have got admission to various institutes in the country and abroad with one student (Subhakanta Das) holding AIR 19 in GATE. Similarly in 2019-20, 9 students have got admission to various institutes of repute and one out of them holding AIR-20 in the National Eligibil-ity Test (NET) with Soumya Ranjan Behera NET AIR-20.

FAREWELL TO FORMER VICE-CHANCELLOR PROF. KISHOR KUMAR BASA

A meeting was organized in Fakir Mo-han University campus to bid farewell to the out-going Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa. Professor Basa was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University for the interim period of Prof. Dinabandhu Sahoo re-signing from his post after joining the University in January 2021 and the appoint-ment of the present Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy.

WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND STATISTICS ORGANISED

A three day online workshop on “Research Methodology and Statis-tics”, was organised by the Post Gradu-ate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Fakir Mohan University from 6th to 8th July 2021. Senior Assistant Professor from the Department of Physical Education, Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, Gujarat was the resource person for the workshop. The first day of workshop was graced by address of Prof. Kishore Kumar Basa, Vice-chancellor, Fakir Mohan University, and Post Graduate council Chairman of the University, Prof. Munesh Chandra Adhikari. Head of the Department Journalism and Mass Communication, Fakir Mo-han University, Dr. Bharati Bala Pat-naik wished that the programme was a success and urged participants to sin-cerely attend the entire workshop.

Students and research scholars from various departments of the university participated in the event. Convener of the workshop- Dr. Smiti Padhi, Assis-tant Professor, J & MC, FMU conducted the entire programme over Google meet forum. The workshop was divided into three sessions in each day and different topics like concept of Research, defining re-search problem, criteria for selection of a problem, title writing, basic concepts and methods of drawing Research Sam-ple, basic concepts and types of experi-mental research, variable, Threats to internal and external validity, control-ling threats, Classification of research-Basics of statistics, hypothesis, level of significance etc. were discussed at length with help of power point presen-tation. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bharati Patnaik.

BSBT Student qualify National Test Swatikrishna Jena a student from the Department of Biosciences and Biotech-nology qualified the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers (GATE) Exam. Apart from that, two students from the same department have also received Biju Patnaik Research Fellowship for carrying out Ph.D research. BSBT also organized a National Conference cum Webinar on “ Recent Advances in Bio-logical Sciences on 14th July 2020

Zoology Students Clear National Eligibility Tests Students from the department of Zoolo-gy have qualified various National level exams. Jagakalia Naik has cleared CSIR NET (JRF). Four students have quali-fied GATE. Sudhasmita Sahoo has been awarded DST Inspire Fellowship 2020. Goutam Jena of the department has been awarded Institute of mathematics Fellowship. The department also orga-nized a workshop Stat-Craft on 21-03-21.

A review meeting was organised on 5th August 2021 by the NSS bureau of Fa-kir Mohan University to discuss the agenda of the bureau in the coming fu-ture. Plantation Drive on the Occasion of “Vana Mahotsava”

A tree plantation drive was organised by the University on the occasion of “Vana Mahotsava” or forest festival in the first week of July 2021. Both faculty members and administrative staffs of the university planted trees in the university campus to make it green and healthy. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor of —

the university outlined the significance of forest festival and spoke about the benefits of living in green campus. Usually, the festival is celebrated be-tween 1st July to 7th July every year. The festival is celebrated to create awareness on forest conservation and environment protection.

Nobel Laureate Prof. Moham-mad Yunus in University Webinar A Two days International Webinar on “Navigating the Covid-19 Pandemic: Addressing the Economic Implications and Launching a Resilient Recovery” was organized by the P.G department of Commerce during 20th & 21st Septem-ber 2020. Nobel Laureate Prof. Moham-mad Yunus of Bangladesh was the Chief Guest of the webinar. The webinar was attended by scholars from India and Abroad. Apart from events, Girish Ku-mar Sahoo, a student of Commerce cleared UGC NET (JRF) in November 2020.

Chemistry Faculty files patent for Degumming of Muga Silk Associate Professor Dr. Pankaj Kumar Parhi, who is also a 2% Global Scientist in the field of Chemical Engineering as per the data published by Stanford Uni-versity has filed a patent (Ref No/App.No.201931049356) for Degumming Muga Silk using natural Surfactant. He has also edited one book published by Springer nature along with publication od 6 International research papers in the year 2020-21. Prof. Parhi has also been awarded with Global Em-inent Scientist for Research Excellence in Chemistry by Vij Trust Education. To be among 2% Global Scientist in—

Chemical Engineering is itself a rare achievement. He is also serving as a Guest Editor of the International Jour-nal “Sustainability.”

FMU declares Research Entrance Test (RET) Result for Admission to Ph.D. Programs Fakir Mohan University has declared the result of its Research Entrance Test (RET) for admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D programs in various departments. The RET is conducted by the University every year. This year a total number of 145 students have qualified RET to un-dergo a course work before registering for their Ph.Ds.

UNIVERSITY LIBRARY SIGNS MOU WITH INFLIBNET

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with UGC INFLIBNET for access and submission of Theses to E-Shodhganga. Theses available in the library have been digitized with the technical assistance of PROQUEST, a content management company provid-ing solutions for better research out comes and greater efficiency of librari-

es. This has been very helpful for both the teaching and students community of the university as they have been accessing E-resources like E-Sodhasindhu, PROQUEST and EB-SCO during the pandemic. The total collection of books by the end of June 2021 has reached 49 thousand 8 hun-dred forty-four.

After joining the office as Vice-Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University, Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy interacted with both the teaching and non-teaching members of the University. In this pro-gram, the Vice-Chancellor gave a call to Fakir Mohan University community to work for the development of the Univer-sity. He also expressed his desire to im-prove the infrastructure facilities availa-ble in the University. He emphasized on quality research that can take the univer-sity higher in national rankings hoping to bring it within 100 best universities in the NIRF ranking. While interacting with the faculty members, the Vice-Chancellor tried to understand their ex-pectations from the university as well as the ways each of the faculty members can contribute for the development of -

APAB student secured 3rd place in India International Science Fes-

tival

Suraj Kumar Pati, a student from the Department of Applied Physics and Ballistics (APAB) secured 3rd position for his research work in the Yong Scien-tist Conference. The theme of the con-ference was “Frontiers Areas of Re-search-Physical Sciences”. The Confer-ence was organised as part of India International Science Festival 2020 and it was jointly organised by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India and Vijnana Bharati.

PG Department of Social Sci-ence Organised International Webinar The P.G. Department of Social Science organised two international and one National Seminar. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the seminars were held online. The International Webinar was on “Impact of Covid-19 on Economy: Global and India”. There was also an international webinar on “Socio-Cultural Challenges in Indian Society: Local and Global Concerns”. On the eve of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2021, the department organised a National Webinar on “#Choose to Chal-lenge”. The seminars were attended by scholars and resource persons from In-dia and abroad.

International Day of Yo-ga Celebrated Fakir Mohan University celebrated International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2021. Recognising the universal appeal of Yoga, the United Nations has de-clared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, the celebration was only online. This was organized by NSS bureau in collaboration with P.G. Vice Department of Education, FMU. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kishor K. Basa was the chief guest on this occasion. Dr. P. K. Tripathy was the chief speak-er. The meeting was presided over by PGC Chairman Prof. Munesh Chandra Adhikary.

I am happy that Vyasa Sambad, the newsletter of Fakir Mohan University is published with a new face, covering a lot of developmental news as its features. I propose this to be converted to a full fledged newspaper in future to help students of Journalism and Mass Communication to have practical knowledge through the guidance of their teachers.

I congratulate the university fraternity for their contributions reflected in this volume published on the 75th Independence Day, i.e. 15th August 2021.
