The Fakir Mohan University Newsletter takes a new form of bimonthly publication from the current issue as per the innovative thoughts of our Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar B. Das. This Newsletter is expected to play the role of a communicating tool between students and the faculties of the University. This will definitely bring back an intellectual environment in the University campus by stimulating the academic as well as research activities among the young minds of our students. From this Editor’s desk, your comments, new ideas and suggestions are always welcome and for this you please knock our University soft computing tool : newsletter.fmu@gmail.com

The University is the citadel of learning. The education is not a means to an end but the end in itself. Education liberates the mind .It promotes human development and adds to the treasure of social capital . It continuously refines the individual thinking for social capital formation. The soul of education is the education of the soul. Let us be educated for making a meaningful life .School education removes illiteracy while higher education spearheads the inclusive process of social transformation So it is highly imperative to make the educational system more socially relevant. Let us break the ongoing process of insensitivity and reverse the present trend of discrimination and marginalisation, We have to promote the universal. character of our university . Thus we have to undertake inward looking measures and out ward looking activities for enhancing the academic visibility and social relevance. The news letter is expected to create vibrating academic atmosphere by motivating all individuals of this University, I hope the news letter will immensely contribute to this noble mission.

Department of Environmental Science• The Department of Environmental Science organized a National Seminar on

“Biofuel: Its Promises and Prospects in Fuel Security” (BIPAP-2011) on 24.02.2011, where Prof. S.P. Rath, Vice Chancellor, North Orissa University, Baripada and Prof. Hifjur Raheman of IIT, Kharagpur graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and as Key Note Speaker respectively.

• Department of Env. Sc. organized a seminar on “Role of Community Leadership in Water Harvesting and River Revival” on 27.7.2011 where Dr. Rajendra Singh, 2001 Ramon Magsaysay Award Winner and “Water Man” or “Jal Purush” of Rajasthan graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
