Alfa Laval in brief
Alfa Laval is a leading global provider ofspecialized products and engineeredsolutions. Our equipment, systems andservices are dedicated to helpingcustomers to optimize the performanceof their processes. Time andtime again.
We help our customers to heat, cool, separate and transport productssuch as oil, water, chemicals, beverages, foodstuffs, starch andpharmaceuticals.
Our worldwide organization worksclosely with customers in almost 100countries to help them stay ahead.
How to contact Alfa LavalUp-to-date Alfa Laval contact details forall countries are always available on ourwebsite at www.alfalaval.com
As one of the world’s leading heattransfer specialists, Alfa Laval has acomplete portfolio of state-of-the-artheat exchangers. Our range alsoincludes tubular models under thename ViscoLine.TM
Choose the right technologyfor the taskBeverages, viscous food and manyother products often have high viscosi-ty or contain particles of many differentkinds and sizes. While plate heatexchangers are a cost-efficient solutionfor heating and cooling of particle freeliquids or liquids with limited particlesize, they normally cannot handle thistype of media without clogging.
Tubular heat exchangers are the idealsolution. Designed to avoid this pro-blem, they take over where plate heatexchangers reach their limitations.
A broad spectrum of thermalapplicationsTubular heat exchangers are suitablefor heating, cooling, pasteurization,UHT treatment, heat regeneration andother heat transfer duties.
Our ViscoLine models are widely usedin processing, for example:• Fruit juices, fruit mash, diced fruits,
fruit purees• Vegetable juices, tomato juice,
sandwich spreads• Egg products• Baby foods, puddings, soups,
sauces• Jams, marmalades, chocolate
sauces• Pulps, nectars, concentrates• Wine must, crushed and
destemmed must• Starch-related products• Ice-related products• Meat by-products, animal foodstuffs• Pharmaceutical products.
Main types of tubular heatexchangersTubular heat exchangers consist of anexternal shell and a single inner tube(monotube type) or a bundle of innertubes (multitube type). There are alsomodels with four concentric tubes(annular space type).
The numbers and diameters of thetubes used vary according to theproduct to be processed and thethermal application to be used.
It pays to choose ViscoLineOnce you have decided to use tubularheat exchangers in your process, whyshould you choose ViscoLine modelsfrom Alfa Laval?
One reason is their high thermalefficiency. ViscoLine is a range of highlyefficient tubular heat exchanger typesthat incorporates corrugated tubesdesigned to increase turbulence in theflow of the fluid. This substantiallyincreases the overall heat transfercoefficient, saving time and energy inyour process.
In addition, the fully weldedconstruction of ViscoLine heat
The benefits of ViscoLine tubularheat exchangers:• Hygenic design• ViscoLine modules can beassembled on a support frame or afull frame and integrated as heattransfer unit into various modules
• Different types of ViscoLine modelscan be combined on the sameframe
• Rebuilding/expansion is possibledue to connection on media side
• Fully welded construction makesthe tubes almost maintenance free
• Optimum number and size of innertubes provides the highest possibleefficiency thus ensuring lowinvestment cost due to lowernumber of units needed
• Different types of connectionsavailable
• Possibility to combine ViscoLinewith other types of heat exchangersto increase running time ofequipment.
exchangers makes the tubes almostmaintenance free, minimizingdowntime and operating costs.
The ViscoLine range includes thefollowing special types:
ViscoLine Annular Unit, VLAAnnular models are used at higherviscosity levels where it is necessary toapply heat to the product from boththe inside and the outside at the sametime, in order to prevent layering. Inthese four concentric tubes, theproduct flows between the second andthird tube.
ViscoLine Monotube Unit, VLOMonotube installations are mostfrequently used for heat-treatingproducts that contain large particles,or have a high pulp or fibre content.

ViscoLine Multitube Unit, VLMThe multitube design is the mostcommonly used. Products processedin this way are of a low to mediumviscosity with small particles and fibres.
ViscoLine Multitube Unit, VLR3m long multitube for product toproduct heat recovery of low viscosityproducts with pulp and fibres.
ViscoLine CIP Unit, VLCHeating of water or CIP solutions bymeans of steam, less demandingapplications to process low and
average viscosity products. Productscan contain fibres and smallparticulates. Also suitable for generalheating and cooling applications, thusideal for a range of processes.
ViscoLine heat exchangers feature ahygienic design for use in asepticapplications. They are part of acomprehensive range of fluid handlingproducts in which the internal andexternal surfaces can be polished tomeet individual clients’ specificrequirements. ViscoLine tubular heatexchangers comply with internationalregulations including PED.
