Preparation for Worship:
~ Isaiah 53:4-5
This morning’s sermon:
“Authority on Earth to Forgive Sins”Luke 5:17-26
Pastor Glenn Parkinson
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows... he
was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our
iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us
peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Call to Worship, Ephesians 1:19-21 Dan Delaney Director of Worship and Music
[I pray that you may know] what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

In Christ alone my hope is foundHe is my Light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid groundFirm through the fiercest drought and storm.What heights of love, what depths of peaceWhen fears are stilled, when strivings cease;
My Comforter, my all in allHere in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone who took on fleshFullness of God in helpless Babe;
This gift of love and righteousnessScorned by the ones He came to save.
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied;For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body layLight of the world by darkness slain;Then bursting forth in glorious dayUp from the grave He rose again.
And as He stands in victory Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His, and He is mineBought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in deathThis is the pow’r of Christ in me;From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny.No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand‘til He returns, or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Responsive Reading, from Mark 10:35-45 Else Davis
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.”
Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said to him, “We are able.”
And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John.
And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you.
But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Song of Response CongregationWe Beseech Thee
Thomas Benson Pollock | The New Ancients
Jesus, with Thy Church abide, Be her Savior, Lord, and Guide,While on earth her faith is tried: We beseech Thee.
All her fettered pow’rs release, Bid our strife and envy cease,Grant the heavenly gift of peace: We beseech Thee.
ChorusMay she guide the poor and blind,
Seek the lost until she find,And the broken hearted bind:
We beseech Thee.
May she one in doctrine be, one in truth and charity,Winning all to faith in Thee: We beseech Thee.
May her lamp of truth be bright, Bid her bear aloft its light.Through the realms of darkest night: We beseech Thee.
May her guides Thy people feed, Shepherds of the flock indeed,Ready, where thou call’st, to lead: We beseech Thee.
May she holy triumphs win, Overthrow the hosts of sin,Gather all the nations in: We beseech Thee.
ChorusMay we guide the poor and blind,
Seek the lost until we find,And the broken hearted bind:
We beseech Thee.

Hymn of Praise CongregationNothing But The Blood
words and music by Robert Lowry | Public Domain
What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow,No other fount I know: nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my pardon this I see, nothing but the blood of Jesus;For my cleansing this my plea, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow,No other fount I know: nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Nothing can for sin atone, nothing but the blood of Jesus;Naught of good that I have done, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow,No other fount I know: nothing but the blood of Jesus.
This is all my hope and peace, nothing but the blood of Jesus;This is all my righteousness, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow,No other fount I know: nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Offertory Jesus Paid It All Congregation Hymn #210
Elvina Mabel Hall | John Thomas Grape
I hear the Savior say,“Thy strength indeed is small!
Child of weakness, watch and pray,Find in Me thine all in all.”
Chorus:Jesus paid it all,All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain--He washed it white as snow.
Lord, now indeed I findThy power, and Thine alone,Can change the leper’s spotsAnd melt the heart of stone.
For nothing good have IWhereby Thy grace to claim--I’ll wash my garments white
In the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb.
And when before the throneI stand in Him complete,
“Jesus died my soul to save,”My lips shall still repeat.
