This past year as your President
has flown by and so have the previous five years that I served on
your Board of Directors. Which means that
I must step away at the end of September. Our bylaws allow two three-year terms
and before requiring a break. This is
a good practice for us! It allows us the opportunity to bring forward new people
and also to bring back previous board
members to serve again.
When you look at the balance sheet in
this annual report, it will make you smile!
The Playhouse is in good financial shape. Our balance sheet is in the black. And
we have made significant progress in reducing our mortgage and updating our
facilities!
In our two theater spaces, we staged 34 productions during our season, which is
219 individual performances! You will not
find any theater that does this anywhere in the state or probably the Midwest.
These productions are a mix of community
and professional entertainment and an
outstanding School for the Arts (with
participant waiting lists). We can be so
proud of these accomplishments.
I want to thank our Artistic Director, Nancy Visintainer-Armstrong and all who make
it happen. We are blessed with our great
staff, volunteers, performers, directors,
and producers. And all of our patrons
and donors have shown their love for the
Playhouse with their attendance and their
generosity. We thank you all!
On to our 60th season and a very exciting
one it will be!
Sincerely,
Nora Finnigan Werra

VO L U N T E E R S
I’m sure you’ll agree that our 2018-19 season was
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
We flew Mary and Burt across our stage in MARY POPPINS, we couldn’t stop the
beat in HAIRSPRAY, we solved the mystery in A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED, we enjoyed an evening of Disney with Musical MainStage’s WONDERFUL WORLD OF WALT concert, and we hootenanied our hearts out for the SideNotes Cabaret, DON’T THINK TWICE IT’S ALL FOLK.
At Sunset Playhouse, the 2018-19 season meant
non-stop productions, and the offerings were varied,
exciting, and not to be missed! Our Furlan Auditorium hosted an array of memorable productions, Musical
MainStage Concerts, and School for the Arts Junior
musicals, while our Marla Eichmann Studio Theater
offered SideNotes Cabarets, bug in a rug and School of the Arts performances, and many Special Events.
In total, our patrons enjoyed three musicals, five plays, two junior musicals, half a dozen Musical
MainStage Concerts, six SideNotes Cabarets, three bug in a rug children’s shows, two kids’ musicals,
as well as several exciting, unique events. No other theater in the Midwest can claim so many
productions in one season!
At the close of 2018, we presented our annual New Year’s Eve Gala: PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ. This sold-out event featured area performers singing classics
from the American Songbook and included raffles, hors d’oeuvres, and a champagne toast at midnight
to ring in the new year. It was a great time for all AND we were pleased to raise significant funds for the Playhouse.
Finally, Sunset continues to actively seek and welcome new volunteers. We hope you will continue
to be part of the Playhouse and encourage your
friends and family to become members of the
Sunset family.
Remember, Entertainment Begins at Sunset, and I hope to see you during our 2019-20 season when we
will be celebrating our Sparkling Sixtieth Season with
wonderful productions and many special events!
Sincerely,
S U N S E T P L AY H O U S E

The mission of Sunset’s School for the Arts is to
provide programs that enable young people to acquire
knowledge and skills in the performing arts, as well as
gain lifelong interest in the arts and culture. The School
for the Arts offers weekly classes for all children ages
3 – 17, specialty workshops, performing arts camps, and two fully-staged junior musicals.
A three-show series produced by the School for the
Arts. In addition to in-house performances, Sunset’s bug in a rug productions tour area elementary schools,
preschools, libraries, and community centers where
thousands of children experience, many for the first time, the joy of live theater.
Dear Sunset Stars:
The arts teach students innumerable
lessons – practice makes progress, small
differences can have large effects, collaboration
leads to creativity. The arts also teach children that
there are several potential paths when approaching
challenges and that each of them might have more
than one solution. And let’s face it – the arts inspire
children to play and to have fun!
The mission of Sunset Playhouse includes an
emphasis on education. Our renowned School for the
Arts has been educating and entertaining children
for more than fifty years. We nurture self-confidence, encourage collaboration, and value each student who
participates in our programs as a unique individual.
Our 2018-19 School for the Arts season saw great
success in the growth of youth in the arts. Year-round
programming welcomed over 450 students, and our School for the Arts and bug in a rug performances
brought more than 2,500 patrons through our doors.
Our school educated over 1200 students at off-site
locations through after-school classes, in-class
workshops, high interest days, and Girl Scout/Boy
Scout workshops. Our bug in a rug series performed
for 14,000+ children in more than 70 traveling performances.
This season, in addition to our two JR musical
productions, we produced two KIDS musicals. This resulted in full performance opportunities for 110
students and numerous patrons. Thanks to generous
donations from School families and patrons, we were
able to offer two student audience performances of
our two JR Musicals free of charge to Milwaukee
Public School Elementary students.
I am proud to report all of these fantastic numbers for our School for the Arts. But more importantly, we are
proud of the experiences Sunset is able to provide
for students. I, the teaching staff, and professional performers work hard to inspire a new generation
of theater patrons, volunteers, and participants.
In a time when technology has become a huge part of our life experience, I am proud that Sunset Playhouse provides vibrant
opportunities for
students to connect
in person, use their
imagination, take
risks, and build
confidence.
See you at the theater!

The Sunset Playhouse produces
its own program. There are eight
programs per season. There are 2150
performances in a season showing to
30,000 to 35,000 people. The audience of the Sunset Playhouse is composed
primarily of Milwaukee and Waukesha
County residents with the resources to
attend the theater and patronize our
advertizers. An ad in one or the entire
Furlan Auditorium Production Season is a perfrect opportunity for businesses
to reach a loyal customer base while
supporting the Sunset Playhouse.
There are many great opportunities to
sponsor a Furlan Auditorium Production, Musical MainStage Concert, A
SideNotes Cabaret Show or a bug in a rug Children’s Theater Show. A sponsor
is recognized in the show’s program,
in the advertisements and eblasts for
the show, and on Sunset’s website.
A sponsor of a Furlan Auditorium Production receives 50 tickets to the
show and the use of the Studio Theatre
for a pre-show reception. Following the performance, the sponsor’s guests may
return to the Studio Theatre to continue
their party and meet the cast members
at this post-performance reception.
