ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS

Staff News:

New Hire Dan Peck joined the Parks and Recreation team on September 24 as our new Community Outreach and Marketing Coordinator. Dan’s primary responsibilities include marketing and promotion of all department programs and special events as well as securing sponsors to support department programs and special events. Dan comes to the Village with significant experience in the private sector working for Tria Architecture. Welcome Dan! Touhy Overpass Update The Touhy Overpass is nearing completion. Thank you again to the Park Board for your support, work and contributions on this project. It’s a beautiful gateway into the Lincolnwood Community and a wonderful enhancement for path users. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, October 11 at 5:30pm. Hope you can join us!

Community Helper Day On Friday, October 5, the Parks and Recreation Department participated in Community Helper Day at Todd Hall School. Staff presented to the Pre-Kindergarten students about how Parks and Recreation professionals help the community. After the presentation the students participated in an arts and craft activity in which they had to draw their favorite activity at park. Each student also received a fabric Frisbee with the new Parks and Recreation Department logo to color. This is always a nice community outreach opportunity for the department. Global Fitness Spot Update Within the coming week the surface of the Global Fitness Spot will be changed over to cement and a retaining wall will be added. The existing surface is crushed limestone and the retaining wall will replace plantings that are not surviving due to constant sun exposure and low soil pH levels. In 2015 the Horwitz Family dedicated the fitness equipment in the Global Fitness Spot to their late daughter Madeline as a living memorial to her life which was cut short. She was 30 years old. The Horwitz Family donated $15,000 to make the aforementioned updates to this site. We are appreciative and thank them for their continued support of the Global Fitness Spot.

Club Kid The Parks and Recreation Department partners with School District 74 to offer Club Kid, an afterschool program for Kindergarten through 5th grade. The chart below displays Club Kid enrollment at the beginning of 2018 school year compared to the 2017 school year. A total of 27 participants were enrolled at the beginning of the 2018 school year compared to 37 participants enrolled at the beginning of the 2017 school year. The decrease in enrollment numbers can be attributed to children aging out of the program.
