Vikings In Action Four Times This Week Cleveland State begins a stretch of seven straight games away from home with four contests this week, starting on Tuesday (Nov. 22) at Kent State at 7:30 p.m. The Vikings then head to Kingston, R.I. for three games to conclude play in the Ticket City Legends Classic. CSU plays Boston University on Friday (Nov. 25), Hofstra on Saturday (Nov. 26) and Rhode Island on Sunday (Nov. 27). The Vikings are 3-0 after picking up wins over Rio Grande and St. Bo-naventure at home last week. Trey Harmon hit a three-pointer with 2.8 sec-onds left to lift CSU past the Bonnies, 67-64, on Friday (Nov. 18). CSU’s defense has been solid to start the season, forcing at least 20 turn-overs in all three games. The Vikings have made 43 steals in three games, led by D’Aundray Brown who leads the league with 16 thefts.

WRESTLING The Vikings were off from team competition this past week, although some wrestlers competed in the open circuit. Freshman Andrew Brown went 4-0 and won the 125 pound bracket at the Mercyhurst Laker Open. Cleveland State will host its first match of the season on Tuesday (Nov. 22) at 7 p.m. at Woodling Gymnasium.

VOLLEYBALL After advancing to the championship match of the Horizon League Tournament for the fifth time under head coach Chuck Voss, the Vikings fell to Milwau-kee, 3-0 to end the 2011 season. CSU defeated Butler, 3-2 during its semifinal contest to earn its place in the championship match. Kara Koch and Jackie Dabbelt each earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after leading the Vikings during their two matches this weekend. Against But-ler, Koch set a tournament record with 34 kills and combined for 43 kills, 25 digs and four blocks over the weekend. Dabbelt added 14 kills on a .306 attack percentage.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL Following an eight-day break form competition, the Vikings will return to action on Friday (Nov. 25) when they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a 5:00 p.m. contest at Western Michigan. CSU will then return to Cleveland to begin a three-game homestand on Sunday (Nov. 27) as the Vikings host Cornell in a 2:00 p.m. game. CSU enters the week with a 1-2 record after fall-ing at Fordham, 52-43 in its first road contest of the year. So far this season, the Vikings are led by Destinee Blue and Shalonda Winton who average 12.3 points per game and 11.7 ppg respectively. Winton also leads CSU in rebounding, averaging 9.0 per game with 27 total rebounds.

MEN’S SWIMMING The Vikings took third place at the TYR Invita-tional, hosted by Northwestern. CSU ended the three-day event with 607 points, behind only Missouri State (1,006) and Northwestern (981). Josh Gonzalez won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events and the team received standout perfor-mances from a handful of swimmers. Berry Thompson won two events and Justin Kermack set a new school record in the 200 fly (1:48.26) while capturing three top-five finishes. Freshman Nathan Grant had three top-six finish-es, including a fourth place in the 200 breast (2:03.12), the fourth best time in program history.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING The Vikings took fifth place in a deep eight-team field at the TYR Invitational hosted by Northwestern over the weekend. CSU finished with 465 points, be-hind Northwestern (866), Illinois (694), Iowa State (693) and Nebraska (517) - all of BCS conferences. Alice Sommerville won the 50 breast as well as the 50 and 100 fly in addition to three other top-four individual finishes. Joanna Olsson won the 200 IM, placed second in the 400 IM and was third in the 200 fly, setting four school records in the process.

Sommerville won five races in three days, including two relay

victories at the TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern. As an

individual, Sommerville was first to touch in the 50 breast (29.29), 50 fly (24.76) and 100 fly (55.17), set-

ting school records in the 50 breast and 100 fly. She also swam on the

400 medley relay team that broke a previous school record by over two seconds, and swam second on the victorious 200 medley relay team.
