Volleyball Heads to NCAA Championship Cleveland State will begin play in the NCAA Tournament this week, trav-eling to 11th-seeded Kansas for a first round contest. The Vikings will face the Jayhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 30, with Wichita State and Ar-kansas playing in the other first round contest at Kansas at 5:00 p.m. The two winners will then face off in a second round match at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1. The Vikings, who enter NCAA Tournament play on a 13-match win streak, stand at 23-6 on the season and haven’t lost since September 28. After claim-ing the 2012 regular season Horizon League title with a 13-1 mark, CSU went on to capture the tournament championship with a 3-1 victory over second-seeded UIC. Eight of the Vikings’ last 13 victories have come as 3-0 sweeps – and they have posted 14 on the season. Four Vikings have tallied at least 200 kills on the year, led by Kara Koch who has a league-best 490. The trio of Marie Frease (284), Kerry Winchester (214) and Jackie Dabbelt (207) have also reached the 200-kill mark for the season. Amanda Medvetz (480 digs) and Koch (344 digs) have led the Viking defense, while Dayna Roberts and Brittany Holland have also tallied at least 200 digs, posting 281 and 242, respectively.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will return home for the first time in over two weeks on Wednesday (Nov. 28), as they host VCU at 7:00 p.m. CSU will then travel to Indiana for a 2:00 p.m. contest on Sunday, Dec. 2 – marking the fifth road game out of the last six contests for the Vikings. Last weekend CSU traveled West to participate in the John Ascuaga’s Nugget Classic which was hosted by the Uni-versity of Nevada, falling to the host Wolfpack (86-79) and Santa Clara (82-71). Toledo, the fourth team in the tourna-ment, came away with the team title after going 2-0 on the weekend, while Santa Clara and the Nevada each finished at 1-1. Shalonda Winton earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, after combining for 54 points (27.0 ppg) and 22 re-bounds (11.0 rpg) on the weekend. Winton, who tallied seven offensive boards in the two contests, became CSU’s all-time leader in career offensive rebounds finishing the weekend with 285. Cori Coleman and Kiersten Green also had a good weekend for the Vikings, Coleman combining for 26 points (17 vs. Nevada), eight rebounds and a six assists and Green posting 23 points (career-high 13 vs. Nevada) with six steals and eight assists.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING The men’s swimming and diving team will be back in the pool this week, following a week and a half break for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Vikings, who last swam at the Magnus Cup Invitational in Busbey Natatorium from Nov. 16-18, will head to Austin, Texas to participate in the AT@T Winter National Championships from Thursday through Sat-urday (Nov. 29-Dec. 1).

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING The women’s swimming and diving team will be back in the pool this week, following a week and a half break for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Vikings, who last swam at the Magnus Cup Invitational in Busbey Natatorium from Nov. 16-18, will head to Austin, Texas to participate in the AT@T Win-ter National Championships from Thursday through Saturday (Nov. 29-Dec. 1).

MEN’S BASKETBALL Following an eight-day layoff, Cleveland State returns to action with two games this week, starting with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Ball State on Wednesday (Nov. 28). The Vikings then return home to host Toledo on Saturday (Dec. 1) at 2:00 p.m. in the Wolstein Center. CSU enters the week at 4-2 overall and splitting two games to conclude play in the NIT Season Tip-Off last week at Robert Morris. The Vikings defeated Alabama-Huntsville, 73-71, before falling to host RMU, 71-62. Sophomore Charlie Lee tied his career-high with 20 points in the loss to the Colonials. He hit a career-best five three-pointers, while also finishing with five assists. Lee leads the team in scoring (14.7) and is tops in the Horizon League with 5.3 assists per game. He is one of three players on the team averaging double figures, along with An-ton Grady (13.7) and Tim Kamczyc (11.3).

WRESTLING The Vikings will hit the mat again this Friday (Nov. 30) as they head to Eastern Michigan at 7:00 p.m. CSU is coming off a week that saw the Vikings earn their first dual meet vic-tory of the season, taking down John Carroll 31-9. Nick Anthony earned the most convincing victory of the night at 197 pounds, pinning his opponent at 5:58 into the match for CSU. Xavier Dye also picked up a big 16-1 techni-cal fail win over his opponent at 174 pounds for the Vikings.
