Davis Surface Water ProjectBy Stacey Winton, City of Davis Media & Communications Officer

The City is constructing an eight-mile water pipeline connecting the City’s water system to the Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency’s system. The joint pipeline system will transport water from the Sacramento River to the Regional Water Treatment Plant in Woodland and deliver the new surface water to residents and businesses in Davis, Woodland and UC Davis. Construction began in July 2015 and will be completed by winter 2016. At this time, Central/North Davis and Wildhorse have been updated while South/West Davis and Mace Ranch will receive by end of calendar year.

When the Project is completed, the City’s water system will primarily use surface water. When water demand is at its highest, the City will blend the surface water with groundwater from our deep water wells. The new surface water is naturally softer than local groundwater. It will result in less wear and tear on water using appliances, and requires less soap/detergent for washing purposes. Water hardness is expected to be reduced by approximately 80% and water softeners will likely not be necessary, depending upon personal preference for water hardness.

A joint powers authority, the Woodland Davis Clean Water Agency (WDCWA) was created with Wood-land in 2009 to implement this project. A description of the Project is available at www.wdcwa.com.

“I am sad to end my term of service early; but am delighted that my departure creates opportunities for highly capable new leaders to serve the Davis Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber team has put into place a detailed transition plan, which will allow for a seamless change in leadership now, and allow for a smooth succession process in the future. I thank the Davis Chamber of Commerce for my opportunity to serve; and I couldn’t be happier for Jason Taormino, as he takes over as Chairman of the Board of Directors.”

Jason Taormino is a real estate developer and a member of the Coldwell Banker management team for the past eight years. Jason grew up in Davis and graduated from Davis High in 1988. After completing college in Pennsylvania he lived in Washington DC for several years before moving to San Francisco to begin a career in technology sales. He completed an MBA at EDHEC in the South of France and worked in the mobile phone industry both in France and in Barcelona. After returning from Europe he started a bottling and wine brokering company and then a wine brand. Jason lives in South Davis with his wife and three children.

Together, Jason and Davis Chamber will continue to build upon our mission of promoting, advocating and supporting the general economic vitality of our membership and quality of life for the community.

Warm regards,

Tamiko & Jason
