Jeffrey BrunnerMiddle School Chorus Conductor

Jeffrey Brunner is a general music teacher and chorus director at Earl Elementary and Pine Forge Elementary schools in the Boyertown Area

School District, in Boyertown, Pennsylvania.At Boyertown, he also is the vocal director and choreographer for the junior high musicals and district

wide choral festivals. He was appointed the director of Choristers, a chorus within the Berks Classical Children’s Chorus of Reading, PA in 2008. In June

2009, he developed and directed the BC3 Summer Sing, a free summer camp in downtown Reading open to any student in grades 4-6 that

possesses a love for singing. Mr. Brunner earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, cum laude, from Mansfield University in

Mansfield, Pennsylvania, and earned a Master of Art in Music Education from Teacher’s College, Columbia University in New York City. He has studied conducting with Peggy Dettwiler at Mansfield University, and

studied voice with Dorothy Stone in New York City, Gary Norden in New York City, and Tammy Black in Bally, Pennsylvania

Joy AndersonElementary School Chorus Conductor

Joy Anderson is the Assistant Director of the acclaimed Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir in Harrisonburg, VA, where she directs the organization's Preparatory Choir, teaches the "Explorers" early elementary classes, and teaches music reading, theory, and aural skills to all choristers in kindergarten through 12th grade. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Richmond, VA., a Master of Music in Music Education and Level I Orff certification from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and Kodály certification (levels I-III) from Capital University in Columbus,Ohio. Her level III instruction through Capital University was at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary. A frequent guest conductor and clinician for local and regional school systems and music educator organizations, Mrs. Anderson has also presented at the national conference of the Organization of American Kodály Educators and taught Pedagogy courses at James Madison University and the University of New Mexico, and her writing has appeared in state and national music educators' journals and websites.

Karen KeatingHigh School Chorus Conductor

Karen Keating, Professor of Music, is director of Shenandoah Chorus and a teacher of conducting at Shenandoah University. She has been on the faculty since 1989. Karen earned a Bachelor of Music degree from James Madison University and has Diplomas in organ performance and choral conducting from the University of Salzburg “Mozarteum”. She has a Doctoral degree in performance from Shenandoah University and studied with Grammy award winner Robert Shafer. While in Austria, Karen studied with several renowned conductors including Herbert von Karajan, Kurt Prestel, and Walter Hagen-Groll. She served as the director of the Robert Schollum Chor Hallein, and as the accompanist and assistant director of the Salzburger Liedertafel.Karen has been a Musical Director and conductor for Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre since 1995 and has conducted a number of musicals including West Side Story, The Producers, Fiddler on the Roof and, most recently, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. She is also in demand as a clinician and adjudicator for choral festivals throughout Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.At Shenandoah, Karen has been the accompanist for many faculty and student recitals as well as choir master for numerous opera productions, including the premiere of Russell Woolen’s The Birthday of the Infanta, which was performed at the Kennedy Center. She has participated as a performer and conductor for various recitals and concerts within the Bach/Handel festival.Karen has performed with The Washington Chorus as the mezzo-soprano soloist on their concert tours to Germany, Austria, and France. Karen has also collaborated with colleagues Michael Forest and Byron Jones on two CD projects: Behold that Star A Collection of Christmas Spirituals with Forest ; and What have you done to my Heart, a collection of French cabaret songs with Jones.

She is a member of Music Educators National Conference and the Organization of American Kodály Educators and has served as President of the Virginia Organization of Kodály Educators. Mrs. Anderson works on the staff and planning committee of the James Madison University Children's Choral Camps as well as co-coordinating JMU's Kodály teacher education courses. A 25-year veteran music teacher and conductor, Mrs. Anderson has worked with children from infancy through high school in public and private schools throughout Virginia, including Norfolk, the Richmond area, and the Shenandoah Valley.
