Through legislation affecting quality public higher education, the Connecticut General Assembly has a significant impact on the four Connecticut State Universities, their faculty, and students. As a result, the make-up of the Connecticut legislature is critically important to CSU. This past summer, to determine which candidates to endorse, the CSU-AAUP Political Committee mailed questionnaires to all candidates for the Connecticut General Assembly. These questionnaires allowed the Political Committee to determine candidatesviews on public higher education, among other things. Candidate responses helped guide endorsements made by the committee for this Nov. 8 election. CSU-AAUP has been working hard to promote our membersresearch and devotion to quality public higher education. This works also helps support ongoing contract negotiations by promoting a wide variety of faculty research endeavors, publications, innovative courses, and community projects via our CSU CONNects blog and Facebook page. Our most recent campaign in the Hartford Courants Guide to Education features content from CSUConnects and will appear now through January 31, 2017. Content will change each month. Pursuant to the CSU-AAUP Constitution, on June 1, Elena Tapia, English/ Linguistics, ECSU, former CSU-AAUP vice president, assumed the office of president after the resignation of Vijay Nair on May 31, 2016. This left a vacancy in the office of vice president. President Tapia appointed Patricia ONeill, Psychology, WCSU, as interim vice president. However, since the length of the unexpired term of vice president is more than six months (May 31, 2017), the CSU-AAUP Constitution requires a special election be held. CSU-AAUP members were notified and had until Oct. 17, 2016, to nominate themselves or any other member for vice president. E-voting will begin on or about Nov. 7, 2016, and end at noon on Nov. 21, 2016. In order to vote, you must have been a registered AAUP member of CSU-AAUP by Oct. 31. To register, please click here. The process is done electronically and automatically via the CSU-AAUP website. You can also contact your chapter office and register in person with them. Registering as a CSU-AAUP member allows you the right to vote, run for office and access to a host of member benefits. Registering as a CSU-AAUP member also automatically registers you with national AAUP and allows you access to their monthly magazine Academe.
