Dear Students,Greetings from The Eco Kart Team

Five years ago we embarked on a journey to revolutionize the learning methodology withthe motto Paint the Earth , encouraging Eco Friendly techniques. Today, Wehave got the Legacy and distinction in providing the Country, one of the Best Platformacross the Nation.

With the Fourth season Commencing, We have been on constant trails on improving theEvent Standards. From making a History with Online Virtual to distributing prizes worthLacs, we have always believed in encouraging the young talent of the Country. This yearwe have introduced an online journal, to co-relate things practically as well astheoretically. As you all know, we are an autonomous Event, which has now grown with agreat Alumni network. It gives us immense pleasure, when we receive mails and calls fromour Ex- participants, thanking us for this platform. The Amount of Participation we get,from teams across the country is very pleasing. People come up from all parts of thecountry from Jammu to Kerala from Gujrat to Odisha, to just be a part of this Event. Wehave tried to design the Event in such a way that it compels you to think out of the boxand this is the beauty of the Event; Its not Traditional, You have to work hard on acompletely new genre.

The Journey has been great so far and we wish to make it much better in the comingcouple of years. We wish to take it on a Global scale and make this industry oriented, sothat we can bridge the gap between students and industries.

As the President of This Event, I look forward for a long standing association of learning,trust and synergy with you and Welcome you to experience the rich culture of Eco KartSeries.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Eco kart is a National Event for studentspursuing Engineering Degree/Diploma.The Competition is to design and fabricatea single passenger Kart which is operatedvia a battery. This is the IV season of thecompetition known as Eco Kart 2017. TheCompetition will not only help studentsbuild interest towards automobiles, butalso help them incorporate Team workand management skills within themselves.The Problem Statement is such that Everyteam is compelled to do rigorous Hardwork and think out of the box, thus , Newinnovations are likely to grow in theAutomobile Sector.

SUB EVENT DATABASE

The Virtual RoundA Qualifier Round for the Main Event,Completely Online and Flexible Schedule.You are judged on how you have planned toproceed for the Event. Since it is a QualifierRound, We at Eco Kart maintains StrictStandards while selecting a Team. TheScores of the Virtual Round is Disclosed asquick as 10 minutes after the presentation isover, to maintain clarity in the round. Thehighest Scoring team is rewarded.

The Online T.IThe Online T.I. or the Technical Inspection isone such eliminator Stage. Team Mentors arerequired to Conduct Technical Inspection inthe College and share the Inspection Videowith us. Eco Kart Officials Judge thepossibility of the Team, making into theMain Round. If the Officials feel that, theTeam is not ready for the Competition, theyare Eliminated! This Round is conducted 15Days Before the Main Event.

The Dynamic RoundThe Final Round of the Competition, wherethe Best Teams from the country competewith each other. Teams are required to bringtheir Karts to the Venue and Participate in aseries of Events, after they are Inspected.Teams win for Excellent Performances insubsequent events and the HighestCumulative score wins the Title of Eco KartChampion of the Year. There are a lot ofmore prizes in this Round.

AUTHORITY

All Rules Falling in Eco Kart Series areStrictly made under constant observationsand with Skilled experience. All Rulesissued for Eco Kart 2017 are theresponsibility of the OrganizingCommittee. Official announcements fromthe Eco Kart Committee, Official FacebookPage, Official Smartphone App or theother Eco Kart Organizers shall beconsidered part of and have the samevalidity as these rules.

Ambiguities or questions concerning themeaning or intent of these rules will beresolved by the Eco Kart Rules Committeeby writing emails or via telephonicConversation.

RULES VALIDITYAND

COMPLIANCE

The Eco Kart Rules provided in the Rulebook posted on the Official Eco Kart Websiteand dated for the calendar year of the competition are the rules in effect for thecompetition. Rule sets dated for other years are invalid. Rulebook version 17.0 andabove are only valid for Eco Kart 2017. Eco Kart Rulebook Version other than thementioned are invalid and should not be considered.

By entering into Eco Kart competition, the team members, faculty advisers and otherpersonal of the entering university agree to comply with, and be bound by, the rulesand all rules interpretations or procedures issued or announced by Eco Kart Officials,the Eco Kart Rules Committee and other organizing bodies. All team members,faculty advisers and other university representatives are required to cooperate with,and follow all instructions from competition organizers, officials and judges.

All Team members and concerned authority hereby declare that all informationregarding every member and Faculty is true to best of their knowledge. they alsocomply with the fact that any kind of forgery would be counted under their accountand shall be treated and examined under their domain.

Organizers have the right to modify thepenalties listed in the various dynamicevent descriptions to better reflect thedesign of their event courses, the courselengths or any special conditions uniqueto the site. The standard dynamic eventpenalties in these rules are defaultvalues that will be applied unless thereis a change by the organizer.

RIGHT TO

IMPOUND

Eco Kart 2017 reserves the right toimpound any onsite registered vehicle atany time or at the stage during thecompetition for inspection and theexamination by organizers, officials andtechnical inspectors. In the event ofunsportsmanlike conduct, the team willreceive a warning from an official. Asecond violation will result in expulsion ofthe team from the competition. Failure of ateam member to follow an instruction orcommand directed specifically to that teamor team member will result in a twenty five(25) point penalty

GENERAL AUTHORITY

Eco Kart and the competition organizing body reserve the right to revise the schedule of any competition and/or interpret or modify thecompetition rules at any time and in any manner that is, in their sole judgment, required for the efficient operation of the event or theEco Kart series as a whole.Eco Kart also promises to apply fair and common rules for every team to maintain uniformity in the Event.Eco Kart reserve the Right to Cover Up Loopholes at the Time of Event. Also If the Officials finds to re-conduct a certain Round or Eventdue to Failure in maintaining Strictness, Then they have full Authority to do the mentioned without being in the questioned.

STUDENTELIGIBILITY

Students are required to be in the Tenure of their Academicprogram and should posses a valid ID card of the College.In Addition, Students should not be Completing the Degree/Diploma before March 2017.

Students Pursuing Degree/ Diploma in Engineering fromBranches like Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/ComputerScience/IT/Mechatronics/Automobile and other similarbranches are eligible.

Apart from the mentioned Eligibility, Team areRequired to have a Faculty Adviser from theCollege/University. The Team should have at most 2and at least 1 Driver , who should have a valid DrivingLicense issued by State Government, and should havean insurance cover of at least the Event days.

Teams should be equipped with Video ConferencingFacility in their College ( Projector / Camera / Mics /Internet ) or Some Other Place.

It is Advised, That Team should contain Students fromDifferent Domain. Though it is Not Mandatory.

REGISTRATIONS

A Team Registration can be done Online, while Registering yourTeam, a Payment of `3,000 will be RequiredUpon Selection in the Virtual Round, teams are required to pay asum of ` 15,000 to participate in the Final Dynamic Round.

The registration for the Event Shall Commence on August 15th

2016 and will remain Open till September 15th 2016.

A Team shall be considered Registered, upon Receiving theTeam Unique ID. If the Team Fails to complete the Registrationprocess, it should be considered as inactive and would bescrapped off from further participation in the Event. There is NOrefund, If Registration is Withdrawn.

Teams Participating in Eco kart 2016, hold No Context in EcoKart 2017 and are not relaxed from the Registration Process.

PRIZE MONEY

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Helmet The driver of the vehicle is required to wear a certified helmet during the dynamic event. Minimum certification required for thehelmet is ISI or ISO certified.

Shoes The Driver must wear Proper Driving Shoes while Driving which are fireproof.

Hand Gloves The Driver must have proper and comfortable hand gloves which will protect the drivers hand in case of accidents. Teamscan use the good quality of bike gloves.

Drivers Suit/Jacket The Driver must wear a Fireproof Suit or jacket for avoiding injuries in case of accidents.

Mouth Guard Driver should be wearing Proper Mouth guard at the time of Event.

Wire Path No wire should pass beneath the Chassis, Every Wire Group must be labelled and insulated with wire pipes.

Roll Over Protection Every Kart must Have a Roll Over Protection, which should be taller than the Driver head by at least 3 inches,while driver is seated wearing helmet.

Impact Absorber Bumper Every Kart must be equipped with Impact Absorber Bumpers, to withstand Front, Rear and side Impacts onthe Kart.

Fire Wall A firewall, made from a fireproof rigid material should be used to separate the Driver from the Transmission Assembly.

Battery Casing Batteries Used in the Kart Must have Proper Casing made from an insulating material.

Seat and Seat Belt Driver seat should be properly fixed and rigid. There must be at least 3 point Safety seat belts in the Kart. Use ofseat belt is mandatory in the event.

Fire Extinguisher Every Kart must be equipped with a fire extinguisher with a Minimum Weight of 1Kg. The Fire Extinguisher should becapable of suppressing Electrical Fire.

Vehicle Configuration- The vehicle must have four (4) or more wheels not in a straight line. The vehicle must be capable of carrying one (1) person 190cm (75 in) tall weighing 113kg (250lbs).

Maximum Vehicle Dimensions- Width: 50 inches at the widest point with the wheels pointing forward at static ride height. Length: 80 inches from front end to rear end .

Wheel Base and Track Width- Difference between front track and rear track width must not be more than 20% of wider track (Front or Rear). Wheel base must be at least 40 inches with smaller track width (front or rear) not less than 80% of the wheelbase .

Weight- There is NO constraints regarding the weight. But do keep in mind that the Motor power is limited and weight plays a major rolein vehicle performance.

GENERAL DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

Material- Teams are free to use Material of their own choice, The Chassis should be made of a metal/alloy and should be capable of carrying dead and live weight on the Kart.

Ground Clearance- With the driver aboard there must be a minimum of 1 inches of static ground clearance measured from the lowest point.

Suspension- Using suspension is optional but Team must be able to justify their reason for using them in the kart.

Wheels and Tires-Teams are free to use tires of their choice. Tires with tire Size More than 10 inches are not allowed. 10 Inches are the inner Diameter of Tires or the Outer Diameter of the Rim.

Steering System-The steering system must be able to control at least two (2) wheels simultaneously. Positive steering stop must be there to prevent locking of Steering in both LH and RH turning .the stop made should not damage the tire assembly or other part of the frame/body. The steering wheel must be mechanically connected to the front wheels i.e. Steer- by-wire is prohibited. The steering wheel can be of any type i.e. continuous, H shaped, C shaped, etc.

Braking System- The vehicle must be equipped with a braking system that is operated by a single control and must be able to constraint the motion of at least 2 Wheels or Axle. Additionally Hand Brake is Mandatory. Brake-by-wire ̂systems are prohibited.

Hitch Point- There must be two Hitch points in the vehicle, one in front and the other in the rear end. These Hitch points would be used for towing purpose.

Cost- The Cost of the Vehicle must not exceed `75,000 in any situation (Excludes Battery, Driver Gears and Safety Equipment Cost).Visibility Requirements- The power train segment should be clearly visible to the examiner. However, this does not mean that moving assemblies like chain and sprocket are left uncovered.

Bodywork- The bodywork of the vehicle may be designed such that the vehicle number and the Eco Kart 2016 logo may be displayed clearly(logo Size 210mm x 75 mm)

Rear View Mirror- Every vehicle must be equipped with the rear view mirror in both the sides of the driver. No vehicle will pass the technical inspection without the rear view mirror.

Reverse Gear A reverse gear is Mandatory in the kart (Changing the Polarity only would serve economical)

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

Brake Light- The vehicle must be installedwith a brake light red in color which isclearly visible from the rear. If an LEDbrake light is used, it must be clearly visiblein very bright sunlight. If there is only onelight, it must be mounted between thewheel centerline.

Kill Switch- The kart must be equippedwith a kill switch, which is capable ofcutting down all electrical circuits includingthe power coming from the battery to theMotor. No. of Kill switches can be morethan one.

Battery- The battery Used should notexceed the specification 48V and should beable to draw an electric Charge ofminimum 20Ah. Smaller batteries in seriescan be used. The equivalent Voltage shouldnot be greater than 48V. Stepping up theVoltage to match motor requirements isallowed. Additionally a separate Battery ofnot more than 5V can be used for CarElectricals like Headlights, Brake light etc.

Motor and Controller- The Desired and Maximum Specifications are as follows

Motor Controller - The Speedcontroller for the motor should be inaccordance with the MotorSpecification. A higher gradeController in always beneficial to avoidcut offs.

Fuse or Circuit Breaker The Fuseor Circuit breaker should be installedsomewhere in between the Power linei.e. From Batteries to Motor, to shutdown the vehicle in the event of a faultin traction circuit.

DC/DC Convertor Teams are free to usea DC/DC Convertor or alternator based ontheir preference.

Instrumentation The kart should beequipped with a Dash Fuel Gauge for theDriver to monitor the health and conditionof the battery.

Battery Charger -The Kart should beequipped with a single phase chargerembedded in the kart. The Charger shouldpreferably use less than 10A currentsocket.(Multiple Chargers can beaccommodated)

EVENT FORMAT

THE ONLINEVIRTUALS

Teams would be Given a window to select adate and Time according to their Comfort.The selected slot would be your time andDate for the Virtual. Each team would beawarded some points after the virtualround session. These points hold relevanceonly for deciding the qualifying Teams.Every team must submit their relateddocuments to [email protected] 5days prior to the allotted time. The teamwould be answerable to a panel of judgesthrough Video conferencing. The format ofsubmission can be found on the website.The Teams are judged on the followingparameters:1. Need for the Market

THE MARKETINGPRESENTATION

Teams that have successfully Cleared the Virtual Round would have to Give an Online Marketing Presentation.The Presentation is Mandatory for Every Team qualifying the Virtual Round. Teams would awarded Marks upon their Submission tothe Marketing Presentation.Teams are just supposed to record their presentation and share the same with us via email. The Best Marketing Scope Award isdependent on this Section of the Event.

Marketing Presentation should be Given in a Uniform Dress Code and should not be Uploaded on YouTube

THE ONLINETECHNICAL INSPECTION

Teams would be Inspected by their own Faculty Adviser to make sure that they are Ready for the Competition.

The Faculty Adviser is expected to inspect that Kart based on the Original Technical Inspection Parameters that are mentioned in the TI sheet. The Faculty has to realize the feasibility of the project being completed within the giving deadline. The College level Technical Inspection must be recorded and uploaded on YOUTUBE. the Link for Video should be shared with us via email. The Faculty adviser has to consider that the Rulebook is properly followed. All Paper work should be checked thoroughly by the Adviser.

In case of False Paper Work caught by Eco Kart Officials, the Faculty Adviser is solely responsible for further actions to be taken on.

THE DYNAMIC ROUND

The Dynamic Round consists of a series of Events initiated by Technical Inspection and Brake test. Clearing Technical Inspection andBrake test is mandatory for every Team for further participation. The Team would not be allowed to participate further even if failing inone of the above test.

Technical InspectionSome Standards have been set in the technical inspection sheet. Every team has to fulfill each and every Standard, failing to which theteam may be disqualified. Before coming for the event make sure you fulfill all the requirements mentioned in the technical InspectionSheet. 2 Attempts of Clearing the T.I would be given for one team.

Brake TestThe vehicle should run on a desired speedsay 30km/Hr on a straight track. Twoconsecutive Line would be made at adistance of 20m. The vehicle has to crossthe second line within a desired time say 9seconds and just after crossing the secondline is allowed to apply brake (The Vehiclecannot decelerate in between the lines ofthe Runway). The vehicle in any conditionshould stop before the Last Line. 3 attemptsto clear this Test would be given for aTeam.

Acceleration Test (200)The vehicle acceleration abilities would betested in this event. There would be twolines 50m apart on a straight Track. Thevehicle has to cross the Second line inminimum time. Time would be started justafter the front wheel crosses the First line.Time would be measured electronically. 2attempts would be given to a team; the bestrecord would be selected. The Minimumtime and maximum time would be markedas a standard and all other Vehicle wouldbe given marks relatively.

Innovation (300)The Vehicle that comes up with the most effective andnecessary innovation in design/ Manufacturing /Transmission / Electricals or any other segment would beawarded points on the basis of effectiveness and freshness ininnovation. Teams have to Record a Video explaining theInnovation with their Kart Ready and share the same viaemail (Do Not upload it on YOUTUBE). Only WorkingInnovations would be Considered. Nominations for the BestInnovation would be given out and the final would bedisclosed at the Venue.

Park it up (400)Ever tried parking the kart with your eyes covered? Theevent is to park the kart with the eyes covered. ARectangular box would be made all surrounded by obstaclesyou have to park the kart with the instructions of 4 of yourteam members but every time you hit the obstacle you lose10 points and the covering time is just 1minute. When thetime is over we would see the position of all four wheels. If allFour wheels are in the rectangle you get marked from 400points, If three of them are in then you get marked from 300Points and likewise. If all Four Wheels are outside therectangle, the team would be marked Zero.

Podium Finish (600)Teams would be competing with different Teams in a Track Race. At most 5 Karts on the Track. So, there would be Winners and Losers in every Group. The best Kart from every Group would be Selected for the Final Round. Marking would be done according to your Rank in the Group e.g.. Winner +100, Runner Up +90, Second Runner up +80, and so on. the Event would end when all the Winners of every Group Compete among themselves.

Turn Table (500)The vehicle Cornering and the Drivers Handling ability would be tested in this event. 3.5m wide Track having turns and curves would be the Track for this event. The Track would become steeper to 2m wide with some turns and curves. The Track would be inscribed in a Track made from Cones of different colors. You earn points for clearing each Checkpoint and loose points for touching the cones. Each Cone having some Points. Every Cone Down will give you penalty of the points Issued to the Cone. All this has to be done in a total of 7mins. No cones down and completing the track in the given time means full marks. Team can Use Reverse Gear as many times as they want.

Face Off (500)This is a 1on 1 Racing Event. Teams would be clashing with each other on a flat and straight racing track. The Opponent is not just the other team but also your Time. The track would be divided in two lanes each lane having flags of equal value on it. The team collecting all the flags and moving first across the finish line wins. Whenever there are odd Number of teams selected, you have to win against your time. For the team that gets losses by its time we add another 25/40 points into their Total. There would be 4/5 set of round of the succeeding winners, score of each round adding up to the next round. E.g.. 28 Teams Clear the T.I. and Brake Test, Then 14 pairs would be competing with each other and thus we would have 14 Winners of the first round. In the second Round we would have 7 pairs and 7 winners respectively, An Odd Number of Winners. Now all 7 winners would be marked according to the time eliminating the last Team, in spite of winning. The team eliminated due to time would be given 25/40 points in addition to their scores. elimination based on Time will only be done in case of Odd Number of Winners. For team who fails to win the Race marking of points would stop as soon as the opponents crosses the finish line.

DYNAMIC ROUND SCORING

The Tie BreakerThe Tie breaker is done in the case ofEqual scores of two or more teams. Thiswould only be done if the Roundextremists are having same Score. Asthe part of the Tie Breaker, we would becounting on Time as the Mainparameter. Lesser Time means higherchances of Winning the Tie Breaker.

If already Time is considered as theparameter and still there is a Tie thenthe Award/Prize Money would beshared equally amongst the Teamsfacing Tie.

Evaluation of InnovationsThere is a award winning round ofInnovations in the Event. You are free toshowcase your own creativity here.However, while we are selecting of BestInnovation the Evaluation criteria shallremain in the Following order:
