VENTURE June, 2018 Ahsummer! SUMMER FUN! Hi Rise Ski and Sport Club, Summer of 2018 By Bob Maclauchlan, Hi Rise President I feel like I was just skiing a few weeks ago but it was actually early April in Tahoe. Where is the time going this year? Although your board is already planning next ski season we shouldn’t have to feel like it’s going to be here in no time. Seems that if you keep busy time flies, and we’re trying to make sure you’re occupied with many events that have been planned for you. The new board is in full swing and I’d like to thank last year’s board as well. We had a very busy and successful year for both the members and club. A special thank you to Roger Redmond, who has served as our treasurer the last few years and worked hard to clean up our books and accounting practices. In fact, he’ll soon be taking the books in for our annual audit which we’ve passed with top marks our last two and I expect the same this month. Thank you, Roger! We started the month with a dinner at The Lobster Pot which from reports everyone enjoyed good food and an interesting menu—it’s lobster, so how can you go wrong? June 16 th , Dennis and carol Rosa, ran a wine bus tour to West of Cleveland and the Sandusky area featuring improved wineries, great food, prizes and lots of fun. June 29 th Diane Castrataro has us set up in a private suite directly behind home plate to watch the Lake County Captains play and to feed us a delicious buffet of various foods. Please remember: this Captain’s game on June 29 th sold out—so find your tickets!! We have two outdoor meetings in June, the 13 th and 27 th , at The Captains Club at Vine Street and Route 91 directly across from the Stadium. Come on out and enjoy the company of fellow members and catch up on the latest news. They offer us specials including pizza, soft pretzels, or 5 potato skins for only $5 each. In July we’ll begin the month with the DINNER OF THE MONTH ON JULY 2 nd (Yes, dinner of the month is on a Monday because the fourth is Wednesday) next to the Chagrin River on the deck of Trader Jacks. (Or is it Joe’s) Contact RoseAnn to book your spot at this favorite location on lakeshore Drive. Cindy Frabotta is hosting a be there or be square event Saturday 14 th at The Grove Amphitheater in Mayfield Village, on open air free concert featuring an Irish Rock band. Cindy will have details soon. The Metro Cup is Saturday July 21 st , once again at Punderson Golf Course, contact Bob Mac if you want to help is retain the trophy. The following day, Sunday 22 nd , Tim and Mary Hanrahan will be hosting the club at Roaming Shores for a barbeque, let Mary now that you’re interested in going. The following Friday (27 th ) RoseAnn is taking us on The Nautica Queen for a wine tasting cruise. For this event she has reserved spots for us but you must book and pay directly with the operator to enjoy a great meal and fantastic vistas of the lake and skyline. The outdoor meetings in July are the 11 th and 25 th at The Porch on Vine Street in Willoughby. This is due to Captains Club remodeling for the month and reopening with a similar menu and barbeque items added. The name will be changing at The Captains Club (new name: “SMOKE”) when it reopens so you may want to use your coupons from the All-Around Town book before the end of July. August 1 st is DOM at Hellriegel’s Inn, details to follow and on Friday August 3 rd we venture downtown to watch our first place Indians play ball and enjoy the Rock and Blast firework extravaganza afterwards. You can get tickets from Kerry and Trish for this exciting night. Friday 10 th there is an Eric Clapton tribute band playing at The Grove Amphitheater, Cindy will also be running that. On Saturday August 18 th , we’re holding the Hi Rise 50 th anniversary Party, see details below. We’re changing our canoeing and kayaking venue to the Grand River on Sunday August 26 th , Arnie will be able to fill you in on the details. Look for a be there or be square event on Wednesday 29 th . We hope to be back at Captains Club (New Name: “SMOKE”) on the 8 th and 22 nd .

June 16th, Dennis and carol Rosa, ran a wine bus tour to West of Cleveland and the Sandusky area featuring improved wineries, great food, prizes and lots of fun. Our ski club will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a great party, this will be held Saturday afternoon on August 18th at The Rookery. Trish will be happy to take your reservation and $10 admittance fee. We are hoping to attract all current and previous Hi Rise members as well as guests. We are working hard to make it a memorable event for everyone. Why $10 you ask, your board has decided to throw a good party and as we do with numerous events will be subsidizing this one. We’re going to be having a catered meal of barbeque including ribs, chicken side dishes, desert and more. We’ll supply water to drink bring any other beverages that you may want to consume. The event will start at 1:00 PM and we’ll eat around 3, we have the Rookery until nightfall. We’re going all out for this and more details will be coming.

September seems such a long way off but RoseAnn will be hosting dinner of the month on the 5th at Lockkeepers in valley View and Guy will be running a scramble golf outing on Saturday 22nd. Outside meetings will continue on the 12th and 26th. We’re also running a late January trip to Snowmass, Colorado and I’m happy to say that at this point we have sold all 40 seats. Thanks to everyone that signed up. The Hi Rise Board of Directors and I wish everyone a happy and safe summer. Have fun and we will see you at one of our summer events, Eh?
