RRepair Facility of the YearBy Duane Blankenship

Bill Knight Collision Repairreceived the Farmers InsuranceCircle of Dependability/EasternDivision Repair Facility of theYear Award in 2010, and againin 2011. Winning the covetedaward once is a great honor.Winning it two years in a row isunprecedented.

Bill Knight is quick to praisehis entire Bill Knight CollisionRepair organization for the roleeach individual played in theirselection to receive the award.“From our administrative staff tothe technicians who performedthe repairs,” said Knight, “allmade positive contributions thatplayed a part in our being select-ed.” The award was for Farmers’Eastern Division of the UnitedStates, which encompasses everystate from Oklahoma north, south, and east to the coastline. The selection was made from atotal of 2,700 collision repaircenters spread across the easternhalf of the United States.

Together, Knight and hiscollision repair team celebratedreceiving the award at a luncheon as the award was presented by Farmers representa-tives. The winning selection was

work done by their certifiedrepair centers.

Bill Knight Collision RepairBody Shop Director DustinMcElyea added, “Our customerservice representatives, our estimators, our technicians, andour parts department are all on

made after considering the speedof repairs, quality of repairs, theworking relationship betweenFarmers and the collision repaircenter, and survey scores sentback from customers receivingrepair services. Farmers also conducts re-inspections of

the same page and were allinvolved in our being the recipient of the Farmers Award. Our parts department has alwaysembraced our Collision RepairCenter, and this is just one ofthe reasons we’ve grown fromone location to three in justthree years.”

Farmers Insurance, BillKnight Collision Repair, andtheir customers want each vehicle to move quickly throughthe shop without sacrificing anyrepair quality. “When a Farmerscustomer brings a vehicle to usfor repair, they’re treated justlike we treat our own customerswhen they come in to buy a car, obtain recommended services, orneed collision repairs,” saidKnight. “Our entire staff treatscustomers the way each of uswants to be treated by others.”It’s no wonder they have beenselected to receive the Circle ofDependability Repair Facility ofthe Year Award two years running.

Bill Knight Automotive conducts an annual campaignsupporting DVIS (DomesticViolence Intervention Services)in the Tulsa area. In 2011, they

When it comes to planning forretirement, you best not be caughtwith your pants down! The sooner you get started saving

and planning for retirement thebetter. So many times I hear peo-ple say… “I just can’t afford to putmoney back for retirement.” Listenhere, you can’t afford NOT to!The question is, how much shouldyou be saving? A good rule ofthumb is to save 20 times yourexpected annual expenses in thefirst year you plan to retire. This rule is based on spending –

not income – and as such, is animportant distinction fromincome-based rules. In retirementwhat matters is how much youspend – not how much you used toearn.

The 20 times rule is based onfirst estimating expenses aftersubtracting any pension and SocialSecurity payments. Assuming aretirement of about 20 years, thisnest egg would let you spend 5%of the balance while investing theremainder at modest rates ofreturn. For example, if you andyour spouse think you will need$50,000 a year and plan on$20,000 from Social Security, youwould need 20 times 30,000 or$600,000. For a more conservativeapproach, estimate this rule ofthumb based on 25 times annualspending.

Now, I have been listening tofolks’ problems and solving financial equations for over 20

years. Some of the commonthemes that I hear are the following:

This is not your parents’ retirement. A lot of folks remem-ber their parents retiring and livingcomfortably off of primarily SocialSecurity and company pensions. Therefore, they really don’t have amodel for the importance of put-ting back for their own retirement. In addition, 30 years ago retire-ment didn’t typically last too long. The life expectancy didn’t go farbeyond the age of 70. Your retire-ment will be very different. Youwill live longer and you will likelybe more active.

2) Don’t depend on SocialSecurity and CompanyPensions. As of 2004, the aver-age annual Social Security retire-ment benefit was approximately$11,000. In other words, retireescannot live on Social Securityalone. For those in or near retire-

ment, your benefits are pretty safe. However, for the younger crowd, don’t count on receiving all of thebenefit estimated in the statementsent to you by the Social SecurityAdministration every year, threemonths before your birthday.

Company Pensions: The numberof companies offering pensions iscurrently around 20%.This is down from 40% in 1975.

Unless you are one of the lucky onein five, plan on saving your retire-ment money yourself.

3) So Bottom Line: It’s up toyou! Unless your plan is to dieyoung or to work forever, you needto stop “playing possum” aboutyour retirement savings. It’s timeto stop being a worry wart about itand start doing something aboutit. Take control of the one thing youhave control over in planning foryour retirement -YOU. How muchYOU save, how YOU invest that savings, and how YOU protect andgrow that savings in retirement iswhat you can control. Who youtrust to help you with this processmatters. SSkin HealthBy Dr. Mallory Spoor-Baker

What is skin health? On the surface, it’s a new catch phrase inthe cosmetic and aesthetic indus-try – a phrase to catch your atten-tion. What does it mean? To me,it is in reference to devices andprocedures which are supposedto promote healthier skin. I havebeen approached by several companies that are promotingthese devices which perform thenewest and greatest treatment forhealthy skin. I don't know yet. Ifthey sound too good to be true, they probably are.

What is skin health, really?Skin health, to me, means theappearance of healthy-lookingskin: moist, soft, clear, bright, resilient. You get the idea. Howdo we get it? The answer to thatis very broad. Acquiring healthyskin is a process that realisticallytakes several months as well asseveral activities to get the resultsyou may want. Just like gettingour bodies healthy, we have to eatright, exercise and change badhabits in order to affect change toourselves. It’s all a process, right? It takes some time andrepeat effort at getting all thegood activities in place and getting rid of all the bad activi-ties. It's also not a linear path toachieve these things. Sometimes

redness, texture, and pore size.  I could write pages and

pages addressing the various procedures that are available andwhat they do. Anyone can cometo my office and have a compli-mentary consult and find outwhat I might recommend. Iwould caution you to considerthat any treatment that you hearabout that is strictly for the surface will only marginallyimprove sun damage and agingskin because they are only superficial. To get at long-stand-ing sun and age-related damageyou must go deeper; you mustuse some type of laser. What typeis used will depend on your skintype (color, tanning, characteristics), overall sun exposure history, and goals. Youmay also have to endure somedegree of recovery or down time. All of this, again, depends onwhat you are trying toachieve. Sometimes I ask mypatients, “Where do you want togo and how fast do you want toget there?” Having said that, however, I don't think you haveto be drastic in your approach –the more aggressive the proce-dure, the higher degree of risk ofsignificant down time or injury. Itry to tailor treatment protocols

it’s one step forward and twosteps back.

In my practice, which I’vehad since 1996, skin health hasalways meant encouraging mypatients to take better overall carewith the activities that damageskin and then performing procedures and applying products to get rid of the signs of the damage.

Many of you are familiarwith these procedures, whichinclude different laser treatmentssuch as IPL, Laser Genesis, andPearl. These are three differentlaser procedures that do differentthings. I prefer laser proceduresover surface procedures likechemical peels and microder-mabrasion because lasers treatthe whole skin, not just the out-ermost layers. I also feel that laserprocedures, when applied cor-rectly and safely, have the mostvalue per dollar spent becausethey usually affect more than oneproblem and do not require asmany treatments. You could havefive microdermabrasion treat-ments, for example, and yourskin might be slightly smoother, but you still have redness andprominent texture and wrin-kles. Five Laser Genesis treat-ments can significantly reduce

to what the patient is trying toachieve.

Skin health can take sometime and effort. I don't believethat there is any new procedureavailable that can do anythingmagic. I think we are seeing new-er, updated versions of the samedevices. It’s been my professionalexperience that device companiesallude to much greater resultsthan their device actually deliv-ers, and in the wrong hands canpotentially do a great deal ofdamage. So be aware that there isno great quick fix for anything.

I also believe that to achievetrue skin health, you must pursueactivities that promote bodyhealth. You must eat better –fruits and vegetables! You mustdrink more water. You must getmore sleep and try to decreasestress. You must control your sunexposure and stop smoking! You

must exercise. Your body andtherefore your skin is a livingorganism that must be fed andprotected to live a long, full life.If you want to look better, youmust be responsible and respon-sive to your skin and your body'sneeds. If you beat yourself up,you will look beat up.

Promote your skin’s healthby taking care of it. Protect it andfeed it. Treat it with various pro-cedures, if you can and if youwant to. Your face and your bodywill thank you, and you will live alonger, healthier life because ofyour efforts.

WWorking to Improve Lives Since 1927By Duane Blankenship

Goodwill Industries of Tulsa haschanged a lot over the past 85years; headquarters have grown,as have their services. Goodwillreaches out with new programsand services, training facilities, and retail stores. But Goodwill’smission has not changed in 85years: they continue to promoteand make possible for every indi-vidual the dignity and self-suffi-ciency that comes with employ-ment. It all boils down to peopleworking, lives improved.

In 2011, Goodwill gave backto our community more than$79 million in economic and fiscal benefit. According toDavid Oliver, Goodwill presi-dent, “In 2012, we’ll continue toexpand our services to individu-als who need employment andcompanies who need workers.”

On May 1, 2012, locals celebrated Goodwill’s 2011award winners at their annualluncheon at the Southern HillsMarriott. Opening remarks andrecognition of luncheon sponsors was made by MarkBradshaw, evening news anchorof KTUL. Awards were presented by Goodwill’s SabrinaWare and David Oliver.

He lost his sisterand only remaining family mem-ber in 2011, but didn’t turn toalcohol. He continued his hard-fought journey to sobriety andhas now been sober for morethan a year. In August, 2011,

Sabrina Ware said they havebeen a great partner withGoodwill by hiring graduatesthat were prepared for workingat Tulsa Transit, taking studentson tours, and participating inmock interviews performed withstudents. Tulsa Transit has beensensitive to the transportationneeds of Goodwill and what isimportant to the organizationand students.

RRock Solid Concrete Tips

By Duane Blankenship

LCI Concrete specializes in pouring and scoring concretedriveways, patios, sidewalks andother flatwork for homeowners, businesses and commercial prop-erties. LCI Director Kalan Paulsays the company has served theTulsa area for the past sevenyears. “Driveways can show signsof damage from corrosive saltused each winter,” says Kalan.“You’ll know salt has gotten toyour driveway when the surfacebegins to pit or flake.” Whenthis happens, your home’s curbappeal is taking a negative hit aswell, and it is time to protectyour investment by replacing thedriveway.

With 20 years of experience,Kalan offers “concrete” advicewhen you begin securing priceestimates for your project.Make sure the supplier you’re

considering has general liabilityand workers’ comprehensiveinsurance. If there’s an accidenton the job, you don’t want to beheld liable for it.

Make sure the supplier hasbeen in business for a minimumof one year. A lot of homeown-ers have been duped over thepast years by individuals sellingthem a “bill of goods” for home

company’s record.Whenever you’re getting an

estimate, the contractor shouldmention the word “rebar” without you having to ask aboutit. Using steel reinforcementrebar is a must when pouring a driveway. “Not using rebar,” saysKalan, “can reduce the life ofyour driveway by as much as

improvement work, only to pro-duce a completed project muchmore inferior than expected.

Any supplier you talk withabout pouring your driveway ordoing other flatwork should beable to produce proof that theyare a member in good standingof the Better Business Bureau.Call the BBB and check out the

10 to 15 years.” LCI Concretelays 3/8-inch rebar on two-footgrid patterns after properlypreparing subsurfaces. Each jobis poured and finished to the rec-ommended industry standard of3,500 pounds per square inch.

Don’t be timid about askingfor references and about similarjobs the supplier has done thatyou can drive to and check out.

Reputable contractors have noproblem with you inspecting previous work or talking withtheir customers.

Ask how long it will take tostart and finish the project.“Average jobs will take about twodays,” says Kalan. “If you get anestimate of two weeks for anaverage job, find out why it

would take that long.”LCI Concrete provides a

supervisor and six-man crew foreach project, and they alwaysorder concrete from the samesupplier, Eagle Concrete ofBroken Arrow. “We’ve workedwith Eagle for a long time,” saysKalan, “and we always knowwe’re getting the correct mixtureof concrete whenever we pour.”When a pumper is needed, LCIuses Heartland Pumping. “Bothof these suppliers are well estab-lished in our area. They are rep-utable and supply only qualityproducts and services.”

A minimum order from LCIis 300 square feet. The largestdriveway they have completed todate was 10,800 square feet for ahome in Tulsa.

Project estimates from LCIare free, and you’ll know in writing exactly what the job isgoing to cost, precisely whatmaterials will be used, and howlong it will take to do the job.“Pouring a new or replacementdriveway isn’t cheap, but whendone correctly with quality products, it has a life expectancyof at least 20 to 30 years, makingit an outstanding investment,”Kalan explains. “We like tomake customers happy andalways ensure the highest qualityand service on every project wehave the privilege of doing.”

Kalan Paul of LCI Concrete has some great advice if you’re looking to replacea weathered driveway.

AAre You at a Loss for Insurance Options?

By Sheryl Sowell

The Holmes Organisationrecently announced the launchof a private exchange technologysystem that provides employersand employees the ability to participate in one of the fastest-growing trends in health insurance – defined contributionhealth plans. Like the 401k transition of years ago, this trendwill continue as group insuranceplans become less and less viabledue to cost and regulations.

According to Mike “Zig”Ziegenhorn of The HolmesOrganisation, a defined contribution health plan is animportant alternative to traditional group health plans forthose who can no longer qualifyfor or afford them, and they aregrowing rapidly in popularity.Rather than paying a portion orall of a premium, under adefined contribution healthplan, an employer can offer nocontribution at all or if preferred, set aside a fixed dollaramount each month for employ-ees to use to pay for their choiceof individual health insurance orother medical costs such as doctor visits, dental insurance, and prescription drugs, often ona pre-tax basis.

many people are without accessto employer provided insurance,”said Millaway. “This plan is notone size fits all, but there are somany people who can receivelong-term benefits from it.”

Employees participating in adefined contribution programthrough their employer aredirected to The HolmesOrganisation private exchangewebsite, where they can compareand select a policy from among avariety of individual health plansbeing offered by health insurersin the Tulsa and northeast

This approach allows eventhe smallest of businesses tooffer their employees qualityhealth-related benefits, whilemaximizing the IRS-approvedbenefits of tax savings for boththe employer and employees.James Millaway of The HolmesOrganisation explains that theseplans are an excellent alternativefor restaurants, small family-owned businesses, staffing companies, and those who dopart time or contract work. “Theproblem we see from an insurance perspective is that

Oklahoma area.Visit the privateexchange website and compareyour plan options atexchange.theholmesorg.com.

Zig wants to let area businesses know that the privateexchange is a tool that providesemployees with more choice andmakes it possible to more effectively provide services tolarge numbers of individuals andtheir families rather thanemployer groups. Employees canchoose to be connected to liveexperts, licensed in all 50 states, who can provide them the bestoptions for their family regardless of pre-existing conditions or budget. “We reachout to everyone who visits thewebsite,” said Millaway. “Thesite is user friendly, but we’rehere to help people understandall of their options.”

Experts will look for the rightplan in four different markets:

1. Personal health plans– allthe major carriers, medically underwritten

2. Short-term medical plans–fewer UW requirements, lower cost

3. State & federal risk pools–must qualify, guaranteed issue

4. Limited benefit plans– low-cost options, guaranteed issue

The Private Exchange is notlimited to just health insurancesolutions, although that is thegreatest concern for mostemployers and employees. “Wehave experts available in lifeinsurance, long-term care insurance, Medicare supple-ments, voluntary benefits (accident, critical illness, hospitalindemnity), and even propertyand casualty insurance,” said Zig.

Forward thinking employershave already begun adopting TheHolmes Organisation’s solutionto their benefits challenges. Earlyadopters to this model are finding it to be the perfect solution, especially if they hadgiven up on offering theiremployees any type of benefits.“Now you can offer access toindividually-owned, selected benefits at little or no cost to youthe employer. In fact, many areseeing savings and no financialobligations,” added Zig.

CConservative, Constitutional, Christian

By Deanna Rebro

Kevin McDugle claims he doesn’t have a political bone inhis body. He just sees a brokenpolitical system and, if elected asOklahoma District 39 StateSenator, he’s planning to dosomething about it.

Running on the Republicanticket, Kevin’s approach to gov-ernment is far from the statusquo of lobbying, calling in favors

born in Pawnee and raised on asmall livestock farm inCleveland. At 12 years old, hegave up his baseball summers towork with his dad in his businessof electrifying oil wells. “My dadtaught me how to work hard,” herecalls, “and that my word meanssomething.” He has strived touphold these values all his life.

Like his father and grandfather, Kevin joined theMarine Corps right after highschool. After many overseastours, including the first GulfWar and serving as a foreign military liaison, he finished hismilitary career as a drill instructor.

After graduating fromSouthern Nazarene Universityand earning a master’s degree inbusiness administration fromUniversity of Phoenix, Kevinbegan his business career bydeveloping and leading salesteams. He developed one national sales team from theground up. He was the directorof sales when the company wentpublic with over $5 million ayear in sales.

As an entrepreneur, he isthe founder and CEO of LawyerMarketing Services, Inc. and

and borrowing. “The FoundingFathers got it right,” he says. They set the groundwork onfaith, family and freedom. Andthat’s the back-to-basics approachMcDugle takes in life and in theway he believes our state government should be run.

The Oklahoma farm boywho calls himself a conservativeconstitutional Christian was

eXpect 3. His product creationshelp customers bring in moreclients through unique marketing ideas and products.

Kevin believes his businesssuccess helped put his newendeavor into perspective. “Weneed to run our government likeyou would run a business,” hesays. “I believe in a flat linebudget. You don’t pour moremoney into broken systems.”That means doing away with federal funds and agendas thathave strings attached.

The approach may seem different. But, as Kevin explains, that’s because we are so used toletting our state run itself in thesame old way. It’s a far cry fromwhat the Founding Fathersintended. And it doesn’t work!“I want to be the leader whosteps in and sets an example forothers to follow,” he adds.

He says as a conservativeChristian who just happens to berunning for a government office,he can boil down the basis of allof his decisions to four criteria:Is the issue Biblically based? Is itconstitutionally correct? Can weafford it? Do we need it?

On political issues, he wouldwork to repeal ObamaCare. He

would support a fair tax system, second amendment gun rightsand pro-life legislation.

People often ask if he couldeffectively represent the peopleof District 39 and still keep hisbusinesses going. Without hesitation, Kevin’s answer is,“Yes!” Part of his leadership ability involves empowering keypeople within these organiza-tions. As a founding member ofthe John C. Maxwell Team and aJohn Maxwell certified coach, speaker and trainer, he teachesbusiness organizations the philosophy that everything risesand falls on leadership.

Kevin and his wife Toshahave five children ranging in agefrom three to 21. Two of the children were adopted fromDHS. The McDugle family isactive at Church on the Move, where Kevin serves as an usher.

This constitutional conservative ChristianRepublican candidate needs support from others who aretired of out-of-control government, and are willing todo something about it. Voters inthe district, which at its farthestspan reaches from I-244 to 101stSt., are encouraged to go towww.KevinforOklahoma.com tohelp make a conservative voiceheard loud and clear in theOklahoma Senate.

Kevin McDugle, who is in the running for District 39 of the Oklahoma Senate, hopes to lead the state asthe Founding Fathers intended for government to be operated.

WWedding Planning Can Be MerryBy Duane Blankenship

John Bunn attended OralRoberts University, studyingadvertising and marketing. Hehad a passion for multimedia, became an experienced videographer, began shootingweddings for friends, and ultimately transformed his passion into a full-blown business. He is the owner ofRedeemed Productions and hasrecently started a second business, Weddings of Tulsa, located at 81st and Harvard.

John recognizes that today’sbrides are smart consumers. With the availability of theInternet, they have done theirhomework and have conceptualized what they wanttheir weddings to be – and notbe – when they meet with John.

Through Weddings of Tulsa,John has taken the weddingplanning process to the nextdimension with a focus on thebride. “Brides are able to visit usand receive professional assistance in planning their weddings, seven days a week,” hesays. Seventy-five of the Tulsaarea’s best wedding vendors haveexhibits at Weddings of Tulsafeaturing available products andservices. Examples of the types

of vendors include bakers, florists, deejays, bands, videographers, honeymoon services, and much more.

In addition, Weddings ofTulsa will schedule evening

meet individual suppliers andask questions about specificproducts, services and costs. Two hostesses are on duty during store hours to answerquestions and offer suggestionsthat will comply with any wedding budget.

“Once we know the wedding date,” says John, “wecan confer with the selected vendor to see if they are availablethat date and relay informationback to the bride.” When a particular vendor has been selected, Weddings of Tulsa setsup a meeting at the storebetween the vendor and thebride. After the bride has determined all the vendors shewants to do her wedding,Weddings of Tulsa will presentan invoice for the pre-agreedtotal amount. Twenty-five percent of the total wedding costis made at the signing of the vendor contracts (which will bedone at one time at Weddings ofTulsa), and the bride has up to asmany as five months to pay thetotal invoice. The entire amountmust be paid in advance of thewedding day. Checks are madepayable to Weddings of Tulsa, who then pays each vendor. This

eliminates a lot of check writingfor the bride.

Weddings of Tulsa will hosttwo bridal shows a year at theMabee Center. After child birth, many women lose some of the volume and firmness of their breast tissue. Dr. Kent recommends either a breast augmentation, a breast lift or a combination of the two, mastopexy-augmentation.

Pregnancy can also wreak havoc on the abdominal wall, stretching the muscles and the skin. Add stretch marks to thisand you have the typical post-pregnancy abdomen. A tummytuck, or abdominoplasty, treats all of these problems, helping torestore your pre-pregnancy appearance or, in some cases, improve upon it.

Often, Dr. Kent can combine breast and abdomen procedures inthe same surgery with dramatic results. Please contact our practicetoday to schedule a Mommy Makeover consultation.

Carl McMann has spent most ofhis life as an athlete. He grew upin Sapulpa, where he met hiswife Carla and graduated fromSapulpa High School. Carl has been stationed in Kuwait, SaudiArabia, Iraq, Cambodia, Laos,Vietnam, Japan, and Hawaiiwhile serving his 27-year careerin the United States Army andArmy Reserve. He retired a ser-geant major in March of 1993.

Carl was selected to repre-sent the Army as a marathonerfor three years early in his duty.He ran over 3,500 miles duringthat time. Carl was competing inthe Trans-Mountain Marathonin El Paso, Texas when he beganfeeling pain in his back andknee, but he kept on runningand finished the race. Duringthis run, athletes gain one milein altitude after starting at sealevel. They then have to turnaround and run back down tosea level. At about the 12-and-a-half mile mark, pain hitCarl, marking the beginning ofthe near unbearable aching hecame to endure in both hisknees. He had always enjoyed

going up stairs and much worsegoing down stairs. He was miser-able trying to sleep at night and,in short, Carl was experiencingexcruciating pain 24 hours eachand every day.

In 2006, Carl’s left knee hadbecome a big issue. It was tough

He was finally introduced to Dr. Ronald LaButti and scheduled to have knee replacement surgery on his leftknee. After surgery, Carl imme-diately found himself anxious toget on the road to completerecovery. He actually pushed alittle too hard and was cautionedto keep up the good work, butnot to overdo it. Dr. LaButti hadhoped for Carl to reach the optimistic point of 120 degreesof flexibility in his improving leftknee and was elated when hereached 131 degrees. Carlworked hard during his therapyand surprised everyone with hisastounding progress.

Carl had dodged tacklingstairs again after his surgery forfear the knee would buckle onhim. To his amazement, the firsttime he tried a stairway, he hadno problem with the ascent orthe descent. He was able to startdeer hunting again and recentlylaid the new wood flooring inhis home. He has acquired hiscommercial driver’s license andis the go-to driver for his church. He drives for the pre-school,Seniors on the Go, various youthactivities, Meals on Wheels, andas a member of the church’s tapeministry, delivers sermon tapes

and Sunday bulletins to shut-inseach week. Carl has also beenrecruited by several church members and friends and is nowa beginner mason.

“I just can’t tell you howmuch I admire and respect Dr.LaButti and his staff,” says Carl.“They all have such a caring attitude and make you feel special. Carla and I actually feellike we’re part of their family.”

Carl and Dr. LaButti arescheduling surgery in the nearfuture to replace Carl’s rightknee. Carl’s words of advice toothers experiencing pain fromtired and worn-out knees is,“When it’s time, schedule thereplacement surgery and get itdone as soon as possible. Homes on the tour will beopen on Saturday, June 23 from9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday,June 24 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.“We have 22 ponds on thisyear’s tour, with ponds inSapulpa, Sand Springs, Bixby,Broken Arrow, Collinsville, andeven as far away as Adair,” saysMelanie Allen, president ofGCWGS. “We have decided tospread out from Tulsa and reallylive up to the name ‘GreenCountry.’”

Displayed on the tour aresome of Green Country’s loveliest backyard water gardensand ponds in all kinds ofarrangements, from gentlebrooks to plunging waterfalls. Inthe last two decades, landscapersand water garden enthusiasts

not only set up to be pleasing tothe eye and create a relaxingatmosphere, but to provide a natural habitat for fish and birdsas well. A plethora of water-friendly plants and flowers

have made great strides in watergarden development, and thiswill be evident to those whoview the intricate rock designsand water filtration systemsalong the tour. These ponds are

surround and fill the ponds, completing the natural effect. And just as in nature, each pondis unique, as the pond owner hasdesigned it according to his orher own imagination and taste.

“Through this tour,GCWGS provides the opportunity for interested parties to share ideas and experiences, successes and pitfalls relating to the care andenjoyment of ponds,” says JodyPorter, a member of GCWGSand owner of HardscapeMaterials Outdoor LivingCenter, along with her husbandBrad. “People can learn aboutaquatic plants and fish whileenjoying ponds built by bothweekend warriors and profes-sional pond builders.” Hardscapeis the presenting sponsor of theGreen Country Water GardenSociety Pond Tour, with othermajor sponsors includingAnderson Pond Design and BZTPond and Koi Products.

Tickets for the pond tourare $5 and are available atHardscape Materials, SouthernAgriculture, and on the GreenCountry Water Garden Societywebsite, www.gcwgs.com.Tickets will also be available at

tour homes. In years past,GCWGS has provided a magazine filled with informationabout the different ponds andabout water gardening in general, and this year’s magazine will bethe actual ticket for the event, gaining the holder entrance intoany of the ponds on the tour. Also new this year: Jody Porterhas set up a GPS routing systemwith all of the tour home locations. To obtain informationabout this, email Jody [email protected].

The Green Country WaterGarden Society is dedicated toeducating Green Country aboutthe how-to’s – and resulting joys– of water gardening. This non-profit society meets the secondTuesday of every month at theTulsa Garden Center at 2435 S.Peoria and is a supporter of theLinnaeus Teaching Garden.Another main focus of the clubis to provide scholarships to horticulture students. TheGCWGS Pond Tour is the club’smain fundraiser of the year, butit is also its way of introducingits passion to the public. “If youare interested in gardening andwater features,” says Jody, “thispond tour is your gateway to the‘Pond Life.’”

The 20th annual Green Country Water Garden Society Pond Tour will be held June 23-24, 2012.

This brand-new technology produces a3-D image of the knee which allows for superior surgical accuracy and alignment. When compared to more traditional forms of navigation, theiBlock cutting guide provides a significant advantage not only for the surgeon, but for the patient as well.

When a joint is replaced, even a miniscule misalignment between theimplant and the bones can harm joint performance and longevity. This innovative technique allows for precisemeasurements made dynamically inreal time.

There are only five “iBlock” units in theUnited States, and this technology is available in Tulsa only with Dr. LaButti.
