Solano County Fair, July 30 - August
3 The Solano County Fair has returned to Vallejo for another year of non-stop music, entertainment and family fun! The fairgrounds will befilled with rides and carnival games, and the stages will be in fullswing with performances by Los Lobos on Friday, TheGuess Who on Saturday, andGraciela Beltran with BandaMovida on Sunday. The Fair will be open Friday,August 1 from 3:00 p.m. to11:00 p.m. and Saturday,August 2 and Sunday, August3 from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m. with nightly Fireworks at9:45 p.m. General admission is $10, children between 6 and 12years and Seniors 60 and over are $6, children 5 and under are free.Military and military dependents are free with a valid military ID. Kevin Russell's Cream of Clapton,
August 1 The Empress Theatre presents Kevin Russell's Cream of Clapton fora night that honors one of the greats in Rock and Blues history.World-class guitarist, vocalist and producer Kevin Russell and hisband dig deep into the music of the British guitar legend with fire,passion and precision. The Cream of Clapton tribute is scheduled for Friday, August 1 at8:00 p.m. at the historic Empress Theatre, located at 330 VirginiaStreet downtown. Tickets are $17 online here, or $20 at the door.
Relay for Life, August 2 The opportunity to come together with the community to help fightcancer is here! The Vallejo Relay for Life event is back this Saturdayfor 24-hours of non-stop cancer combat. The event will commence with the Opening Ceremony at 9:00 a.m.on Saturday, August 2, with the Survivors Lap at 9:30 a.m. TheLuminaria Ceremony begins at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night and theFight Back Closing Ceremony will start at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday,August 3. The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life offers everyone achance to join forces against cancer, remember loved ones, inspireothers and celebrate life. Unique to Vallejo Photography
Show, Begins August 2 The Unique to Vallejo photography show will host an exciting array ofartwork with a display of more than 25 local photographers highlighting the exclusive andunique places and events that onlyVallejo has to offer. The photography show will takeplace at the Artiszen Cultural ArtCenter, located at 337 GeorgiaStreet in the Downtown Arts andEntertainment District. The OpeningReception will take place from 6:00p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday,August 2, with the show runningthrough August 23. Busy Bee Dogs at Springstowne
Library, August 6 The Springstowne Library will be hosting the Busy Bee Dogs for a
morning of magical pet tricks and funactivities. The Busy Bee Dogs, formerlyhomeless pets, are in the spotlight toamaze and educate audiences of allages through heart-capturing,extraordinary entertainment. Come out and see wonderful tricksby these gravity defying pups. Theshow will begin at 10:30 a.m. onWednesday, August 6 at theSpringstowne Library, located at1003 Oakwood Avenue.
Comedy at the Empress, August 8 Comedy at the Empress returns for this month's installment of laughsand fun with Dennis Regan, featuring Phil Johnson. Hosted byKarinda Dobbins, this is sure to be a hilarious event. Headliner Dennis Regan is one of America's favorite comedians. Hisquick wit and brilliantly funny insights into the world around us neverfails to keep audiences laughing. He is one of the elite, few comicswho have had multiple appearances on both the Tonight Show withJay Leno and the Late Show with David Letterman. Featured act Phil Johnson brings his playful humor and likable,endearing manner to the stage. He has appeared at the SundanceFilm Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, using comedy andmusic to dissect the dilemma and drama in both his own life andother's. Host Karinda Dobbins opens the show with her sharp, distinctivehumor, infused with hilarious social commentary. To date, she hasappeared at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival (MichFest),featured at Bay Area comedy clubs such as Tommy T's, the PunchLine and Cobbs, and made her primetime national television debuton Coast-to-Coast Episode 1 on NickMom Night Out. The next Comedy at the Empress will be on Friday, August 8 from7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tickets for the show are $17 in advance or$20 the day of the show. GVRD 70th Birthday Celebration,
August 9 The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) is happy toannounce it will be celebrating its 70th birthday and you are cordiallyinvited to help celebrate! The party will be on Saturday, August 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.at Blue Rock Springs Park, located at 650 Columbus Parkway. Therewill be entertainment, food (for purchase),a Kids Corner and an all-around goodtime, with free admission. GVRD invites you to come celebrate itsrich history and contributions and to thankthe community for supporting the Districtthroughout the years. RTSC Work Days, August 14 - August
16 Rebuilding Together Solano County (RTSC) is getting together foranother set of work days to help rehabilitate a Vallejo military home.With the rising cost of living and falling social service budgets, someof our most vulnerable neighbors are left without the most basic ofnecessities: a warm, safe and dry home. August 14 through August 16 will consist of a home rehabilitation ofa needy Vallejo veteran. RTSC will provide breakfast, snacks, drinksand lunch, along with a t-shirt and all workday supplies. All you needto do is donate your enthusiasm and energy! RTSC also has three Supply Workdays at the RTSC Warehouse onAugust 6, 20 and 27. Vallejo Art Windows Call for Artist,
August 15 Vallejo Art Windows, a public arts initiative in its 3rd year, isdesigned to improve the aesthetic appeal of Vallejo's downtowndistrict, promote artists, and use the dynamic power of art to sparkeconomic revitalization. Working in conjunction with the downtown property ownersassociation and the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation, they securetemporary installation sites inside vacant storefronts. Artist'sinstallations will remain in the windows for a year, or until the spacethey occupy is leased. There is no entry or rental fee to the artist. This ongoing arts initiative seeks applications from local and regionalartists to create art installations in an area with historically largeamounts of vacated retail space, recently experiencing a surge ofartistic activity. They are accepting submissions in a variety of mediafrom individuals and groups by August 15:

Celebrate Diversity, Fridays
beginning August 15 The Downtown Arts and Entertainment District will close downGeorgia and Marin Street for a Celebration of Diversity on Friday,August 15. Join in the festivities to embrace Vallejo's FilipinoAmerican Culture with the Maharlika Cultural Troupe and ademonstration of the Island Warriors Martial Arts group. There will befood of international flavors and various musical performances. The following Fridays will consist of Ballet Folklorico, "El Valle,"performing traditional Latin American and Mexican dances, NativeAmerican performers, Gospel Choirs and other cultural groups.Guests can visit the number of galleries downtown, enjoy otherperformances and shows ongoing on Georgia and Marin Streets andparticipate in a cultural experience that promotes racial and culturalawareness and harmony in the community. Celebrate Diversity Fridays will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.downtown Vallejo. Wine Tasting on the Waterfront,
August 16 Make your way out to the waterfront for a number of Lake CountyWineries offering wine tasting on Saturday, August 16. For threehours, guests will be able to sample different wines from variouswineries with the beautiful setting of the Vallejo waterfront ahead. While the Lake County Winery industry is still young, the wineriesare excited to bring their wines to Vallejo to offer visitors a chance tosample tasty award-winning wines in a relaxed and inviting
atmosphere. Guests can alsoenjoy the open air with Yoga,Tai Chi and Zumba classeswith a taste of wine. A $10 ticket will ensure aspecial Lake County wineglass, with four tickets for fourpours. Additional tickets will be$3 for five pours. Wine Tastingon the Waterfront will be from

FDSC Indoor Garage Sale, August 23 The Florence Douglas Senior Center (FDSC) will be hosting anindoor garage sale for the community, with sale slots open to FDSCmembers as well as the general public. Come rummage through other people's trash and find your treasureat this one-day event. Registration for a 10-by-10 space is $25 forFDSC members and $35 for the general public. Each space includesone 10-foot table and two chairs. Vendor space will be reservedupon receipt of payment. Extra tables and chairs are available for anadditional cost. The FDSC Indoor Garage Sale will be on Saturday, August 23 from9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Florence Douglas Senior Center,located at 333 Amador Street. A Tribute to Patsy Cline, August 23 The Empress Theatre will be giving a tribute to the great andlegendary music of Patsy Cline through the music of Joni Morris. Morris has spent the past 15 years with her talented "Jordanairessinging style" four-piece band. Audiences love her tributes to themusic of Connie Frances, Legendary Ladies in Country Music,Christmas Shows and her own original music. Her performance is asolid, saturated withtrue showmanship andauthentic sound andpersonality, not tomention her dazzlingcostumes! Now in its seventh month,the two-hour sessions areattracting talent from avariety of cities in the BayArea. Attendees can expectlow-key, but helpfulcoaching, easy charts forfollowing along and the thrillof practicing their owncompositions in a groupsetting. Mira Jazz Jam provides asupportive, non-judgmentalenvironment and theopportunity to participate orsimply listen in. August 8 Bay Area StageProductions, under theartistic directorship of JeffLow, is proud to presentSamuel Becketts' "Waitingfor Godot" coming to thestage this August. "Waiting for Godot" is a playin which two characters,Vladimir and Estragon, waitendlessly in vain for thearrival of someone namedGodot. The two men,waiting on a country road bya tree, cannot agree onwhether they are in the rightplace, or if it is the right dayfor their meeting with Godot,only that they are supposedto wait for someone namedGodot at a tree.
