VALLE REALECer t i f ied Organic
Organic certification was granted to
Valle Reale in 2014 by ICEA (Istituto per
la Certificazione Etica ed Ambientale) and is
recognized by the National Organic Program
of the USDA. The result is a new line of wines:
Valle Reale Certified Organic.Trebbiano, Cerasuolo, and Montepulciano are
farmed organically and vinified in stainless-steel
tanks to preserve fruitiness and freshness.
Fermentations are made by pied de cuve, an
old technique where a small portion of grapes
are picked before the harvest and allowed to
ferment. The starter is then used to inoculate the
remainder of the harvest, resulting in wines of
greater complexity.
Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Certified OrganicSourced from two estate vineyards: Popoli and Capestrano.
The DOC Trebbiano d’Abruzzo has one of the highest permitted
yields in all of Italy at 120 hl/ha and Valle Reale chooses to farm
its Trebbiano d’Abruzzo at half of that, 60 hl/ha. Temperature
swings between day and night coupled with calcareous soil give
a wine with complex aromas and high acidity. The wine is only
partially filtered and forms a light deposit at the bottom of the
bottle. Leonardo believes this sediment ensures complexity and
long life in the bottle.
Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Certified OrganicMade from 100% Montepulciano grapes in a style of rosé
unique to the Abruzzo region. Cerasuolo, which translates as
“cherry red,” is a deeply colored rosé produced by a short
maceration before separating the juice from the skins. The wine
is from a section of the Popoli vineyard where the soil is thin
and stony. Here grapes mature slowly and accumulate aromatics
and high acidity. Valle Reale Cerasuolo aims to distinguish itself
with its freshness, perfume, and lower alcohol thanks to the
high elevation that its grown.
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Certified OrganicA wine with deep color, plush blackberry-like fruit, and
medium weight, in addition to moderate levels of tannin
and acid. The grapes come from vineyards in Popoli and
in Capestrano. The two vineyard areas have different soils
and climatic profiles: Capestrano gives more structured
wines while Popoli tends to be more elegant. At higher
elevation and without chemicals, Montepulciano matures
slowly and retains acidity, giving an Abruzzo wine of
unmatched complexity and length.
