VALLA BEACH COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (VBCA)

Welcome to October and Daylight Saving - a reminder to put your clocks forward 1 hour before bed on the Saturday night after the market on Saturday 6 October. The new look Valla Views has had a lot of good comments ie the layout makes it a little easier to read. Kuta Ave Bus Stop - the Nambucca Shire Council [NSC] apologise that the Bus Stop at Kuta/Valla Beach Road has not yet be relocated due to the programmed work on the V Wall and other capital works. ‘Thong’ seat - the VBCA met with the representatives of the Aboriginal Land Council [ALC] re the location of the thong seat at Middle Valla. It was agreed to relocate the seat to a position in Valla Reserve on the right side of the footbridge; the seat has been removed and is waiting for its place in the NSC’s works program to be installed at Valla Reserve. Cricket Pitch - in July the VBCA received a request to upgrade the Cricket Pitch on Anderson Park; a Valla Beach Cricket Club is in the process of being formed. This was discussed with NSC and the NSW Cricket Association and with the help of Nambucca Cricket Club, an application has been submitted for money to pursue this venture; and thanks to Teresa at the NSC it met the deadline. We will not know for a couple of months if the application is successful. Valla Beach Playgroup - have been successful in receiving a grant to enhance the play area behind the Hall. Next General Meeting of the VBCA will be held at the Valla Beach Community Centre on Monday 19

November commencing at 7pm. All are most welcome. VBCA holds 3 General Meetings each year in the Community Hall - this is one venue where you can ask questions and raise issues that you feel need following up. You can also use our facebook page http://facebook.com/vallabeachmarkets We also encourage you to call into the Market Office on Saturday 6

October and talk to one of our friendly Committee members.

The service can include thinning of vegetation, mowing or slashing of long grass, cleaning gutters, etc. For more information please call Bush Fire Information Line 1800 679 737 or (02) 8741 4955.

Vallarinas - We have just completed a concert at the Masonic Nursing Home Coffs Harbour which was very well received by the residents and staff. Our next concert is for the Korora View Club on Tuesday 2 October - we have new dancers to reveal so it is bound to be a lively event. We are already rehearsing for our Christmas programs as that time will be around again in no time. For any one who would like to be part of a group which is giving back to the community with entertainment, we would love to hear from you. We are a fun group so if you can play an instrument, sing, dance, do comedy or perhaps be a helper ‘behind the scenes’, you would be made so very welcome. We rehearse every Monday and Wednesday at the Wool Shed in the Valla Beach Tourist Park 9-11.00am. Any queries please call Bernice 02 65 695 931.

Since 1999, CDATs (Community Drug Action Teams) have led thousands of activities to engage at-risk youth, educate parents and the wider community through

community activities and campaigns to curb alcohol-fuelled violence and drug use. The Australian Drug Foundation supports the CDATs through the Community Engagement and Action Program (CEAP) funded by NSW Health.

The Valla/Valla Beach Community Drug Action Team support our Community Markets and the Carols in the Park held at the Lions Reserve. Your local CDAT works to help provide a safe and friendly environment free of drugs and alcohol and have been engaged with the VBCA for over 6 years providing the funding for great entertainment at the Markets for the whole family.

Valla/Valla Beach CDAT have a stand at the markets with information to help and provide information about drug and alcohol abuse. If you have any questions, wish to be part of the local CDAT or need assistance finding help, please talk to Tracey at the Market Management Marquee.
