    IMPORTANT NOTICE

    Please note the cooling fan fitted to this appliance is an integral part of its safetyand functionality.When the appliance is installed care must be taken that the cooling fans perfor-mance is not impeded by any objects coming into contact with it. (Installationpipes, leads etc)

    Before using the appliance forthe first time, remove any protectivepolythene film and wash the oven

    shelves and furniture in hot soapywater to remove their protectivecovering of oil. Even so, when youfirst turn on the oven or grill you maynotice a smell and some smoke.

    Condensation

    When hot and cold air meet,condensation forms. The outer door isair cooled and the inner door gets hot,so some condensation might form; thisis normal and will disappear within 10- 15 minutes.

    Electrical connection

    Please refer to installation instructionsfor electrical connection.

    In your own interest, and that of safety,make sure that the installation is carriedout by a competent person.

    Disconnection of electric appliancesshould always be carried out by a

    competent person.Warning: This appliance must beearthed.

    In the event of a power cut

    1. Switch off the electricity supply to theappliance at the cooker control unit.

    2. When the power returns, see theProgrammer / Clock section toSet the time of day.

    To replace an oven light bulb

    WARNING - switch off the electricitysupply to the appliance at the socket,

    to avoid the risk of electric shock.Wait until the oven is cool, thenremove the oven shelves.

    The oven light is at the rear of the ovencavity.

    Unscrew the lens cover (turn anticlock-wise). Unscrew the bulb and replace.

    Replace lens cover.Please note that the oven light bulb isnot covered by guarantee.

    The appliance is designed to fit into

    a standard 600mm wide housingunit with a minimum internal height of880mm.

    Cooling fanThe cooling fan helps to keep theexterior cool during normal use.When an element is operated, youshould heat the cooling fan switch onautomatically and be able to feel airevacuating from the appliance ventsjust below the fascia.

    The cooling fan will continue to operatefor approximately 10 minutes afterturning off the elements. This is normal.

    If there is no such indication that thefan is operating, the appliance willrequire servicing. DO NOT USE THEAPPLIANCE UNTIL IT HAS BEEN SERVICED.

    Switch the appliance off at the mainsand contact Customer Support.

    Glass panels

    To meet the relevant Standards ofDomestic cooking appliances, all theglass panels on this appliance aretoughened to meet the fragmentationrequirements of BS3193. This ensuresthat, in the unlikely event that a panelbreaks, it does so into small fragmentsto minimise the risk of injury.

    Please take care when handling, usingor cleaning all glass panels as anydamage to the surfaces or edges may

    result in the glass breaking withoutwarning or apparent cause at a laterdate. Should any glass panel bedamaged, we strongly recommend

    When you are cooking, keepchildren away from the vicinityof appliance.

    This product is designed as a domesticcooking appliance for the preparationand cooking of domestic foodproducts, and should not be used forany other purpose.

    Remove all packaging from theappliance before using for thefirst time.

    Make sure you read andunderstand the instructions beforeusing the appliance.

    Keep electrical leads short so theydo not drape over the applianceor the edge of the worktop.

    Keep all flammable materials (such

    as curtains, furnishings & clothing)away from the appliance.

    Parts of the appliance may be hotduring or immediately after use.Care should be taken to avoidtouching heating elements insidethe oven. Allow sufficient time forthe appliance to cool after

    switching off. When opening the appliance

    door, take care to avoid skincontact with any steam which mayescape from the cooking.

    Do not use aluminium foil to coverthe grill pan, or put items wrapped

    in foil under the grill, as this createsa fire hazard. The high reflectivitycan also damage the element.

    Do not use the oven with the doorinner glass panel removed.

    Do not drape tea towels over the

    flue vents or doors, as this createsa fire hazard.

    Use oven gloves when removinghot food / dishes from the oven orgrill. The oven / grill and utensilswill be very hot when in use.

    Do not use foil on oven shelves, orallow it to block the oven flue, asthis creates a fire hazard, andprevents heat circulation.

    When cooking heavy items - eg;turkeys - do not pull the oven shelfout with the item still on the shelf.

    Drop-down doors: Do not placeitems on the door when open.

    Switch off the electricity supplybefore replacing the oven lightbulb, to avoid the possibility ofelectric shock.

    Never use the appliance forheating a room.

    All installation, servicing and

    maintenance work should be carriedout by a competent person who willcomply with current Regulations,Standards and Requirements.

    Warning: This appliance must beearthed.

    When you have finishedcooking check that all controls

    are in the off position.

    Using the grills

    The 900 has a grill in both oven cavi-ties.

    The top oven grill is a fully variabledual grill.

    The main oven features fixed rategrilling - a single element conventionalgrill, and a fanned grill function.

    Follow the instructions given on thenext page when operating these grills.

    Preheating

    For best results, preheat the grill for3 - 5 minutes.

    Aluminium foil

    Using aluminium foil to cover the grillpan, or putting items wrapped in foilunder the grill can create a fire hazard,and the high reflectivity can damage

    the grill element.

    Detachable grill pan handle

    Place the handle over the edge of thegrill pan, at the narrow side edges.Slide the handle to the centre, andlocate between the handle positionindicators.

    The handle should be removed from

    the pan during grilling, to preventoverheating.

    The handle is designed for removing /inserting the grill pan under the grillwhen grilling.

    If cleaning the grill pan when it is hot,use oven gloves to move it. Do notusethe handle to pour hot fats from the

    grill pan.Food for grilling should be positionedcentrally on the trivet.

    Grilling in the top oven

    The top oven grill is a fully variabledual grill.

    To switch on the grill

    Important:The top oven / grill doormust be kept open when the top ovengrill is used - either fully open or usingthe door stop position - open the doorabout 75mm and it will hold open. Ifthe grill door is closed whilst the grill is

    in use, it will cause the grill door tobecome hot.

    Turn the oven control knob eitherclockwise to use the full grill set-tings, or clockwise to the economygrill settings, Then select 1 - 8 on thegrill control.

    The economy grill settings only use theinner element of the grill.

    To switch off, return the control knob tothe G off position.

    Grilling in the main oven

    The main oven grill & fanned grill are

    fixed settings using the inner element only.

    Make sure that the programmer is setto manual before grilling.

    Conventional grill

    The door must be open when the grillis used for conventional grilling - eitherfully open or using the door stopposition - open the doot about 75mmand it will hold open.

    If the grill door is closed while the grillis in use, the grill will cycle on and offat a high temperature, causing thedoor to become hot.

    (i) Turn the selector control knob to

    the conventional grill setting.(ii) Turn the oven temperature control

    knob to the full on setting.

    Fanned grill

    The door must be closed when thefanned grill is used.

    When opening the door, take care toavoid skin contact with any steamwhich may escape from the cooking.

    (i) Turn the selector control knob tothe fan grill setting.

    (ii) Turn the oven temperature controlknob to the desired temperature-setting.

    When the fanned grill is selected, onlythe inner element will come on.

    The top oven is a conventional oven.

    To switch on the top oven

    Turn the top oven control knob to thedesired temperature setting.

    The red thermostat indicator will come

    on until the selected temperature isreached and then go off; it will turn onand off periodically as the thermostatoperates to maintain the selectedtemperature.

    To switch off, return the control to theG off position.

    Top heat only

    Turn the top oven control knob past theoven temperature markings, until thetop heat symbol is in the window asshown below.

    Important notes

    Important: Never put items

    directly on the base of the oven orcover the oven base with foil, asthis may cause the element tooverheat.

    The main oven is a multi-function oven,and may be used as a conventionaloven or a fanned oven. It may also beused as a grill, or with one of the otheroven functions.

    Manual operation

    The programmer must be set to manualoperation before the main oven or grillfunctions can be used. If A (Auto) ison the programmer display, return theoven to manual operation by pressingthe two end buttons.

    To turn on the main oven

    Step 1 - Select the function

    Turn the selector control knob in eitherdirection, until the function you requireappears in the window.

    Step 2 - Set the main oven control

    If you have selected an oven cookingfunction, then simply turn the mainoven temperature control knob clock-

    wise to the required temperature - thisbrings on the neon indicator light,which will stay on until the oven reach-es the required temperature.To switchoff the main oven, return the controlknob to the l off position.

    Caution: Accessible parts maybe hot when the appliance is in

    Never put items directly on the base ofthe oven or cover the oven base withfoil, as this can cause the base elementto overheat.

    Manual operationSet the programmer to manual operation.See Programmer / Clock section.

    Turn the selector control knob to thesymbol for the desired oven function.

    Turn the main oven temperature con-trol knob to the desired temperature.

    The red thermostat indicator neon willcome on and off until the selectedtemperature is reached and then gooff; it will turn on and off periodicallyas the thermostat operates to maintainthe selected temperature.

    To switch off the main oven, return themain oven control knob to the l off

    position.

    Automatic operation

    See Programmer / Clock section.

    Preheating

    Always use the fan oven setting forpreheating to save time and electricity.

    After the oven has been preheated onthe fan oven setting, turn the selectorcontrol knob to the oven setting yourequire.

    The oven must be preheated whencooking frozen or chilled food, and werecommend preheating for yeast mixtures,batters, souffls and whisked sponges,otherwise preheating is not necessaryas a fan oven warms up quickly.

    Preheat the oven until the indicatorneon switches off for the first time;this will take between 5 - 15 minutes,depending on the temperature selected.

    To help the air circulate freely Position the shelves evenly within

    the oven and maintain a clearancefrom the oven roof and base.

    If more than one cooking dish orbaking tray is to be used on a shelf,leave a gap of at least 25mm

    between the items themselves andthe oven interior.

    Allow enough space betweenshelves for food that will riseduring cooking.

    Do not place items on the ovenbase as this will prevent air fromcirculating freely.

    Main oven functions

    Conventional oven

    (i) Turn the selector control knob tothe conventional oven symbol.

    (ii) Turn the main oven control knob tothe required temperature.

    The temperature you selectcorresponds to the temperature in themiddle of the oven.

    The top heat comes from the outerelement of the grill, and the base heatis under the oven base.

    Top heat only

    (i) Turn the selector control knob tothe top heat symbol.

    (ii) Turn the main oven control to therequired temperature.

    Base heat only

    (i) Turn the selector control knob tothe base heat symbol.

    (ii) Turn the main oven control knob to

    the required temperature.

    Fan oven

    (i) Turn the selector control knob tothe fan oven symbol.

    (ii) Turn the main oven control knob tothe required temperature.

    The fan oven comes on when the ovenis switched on and circulates the airaround the oven to give a fairly eventemperature throughout the oven.

    Fan and base heat only(i) Turn the selector control to the fan

    and base heat symbol.

    (ii) Turn the main control to therequired temperature.

    Intensive bake

    (i) Turn the selector control to theintensive bake symbol.

    (ii) Turn the main oven control to therequired temperature.

    Defrosting and cooling

    (i) Turn the selector control knob todefrost .

    (ii) Turn the oven control to the lightsymbol .

    To defrost frozen foods, place foodin the centre of the oven and closethe door.

    To cool foods after cooking prior torefrigeration or freezing, place food

    in the centre of the oven with thedoor open.

    Be safe

    Do notdefrost stuffed poultry usingthis method.

    Do notdefrost larger joints of meator poultry over 2kg / 4lb using this

    method. Neverplace uncooked food which

    is to be defrosted next to cookedfood which is to be cooled, as thiscan lead to cross contamination.

    Please refer to the Cooking Guide formore information on using the Defrostfunction.

    Slow cooking

    Turn the selector control to eitherconventional oven or fanned oven.

    Do not try to slow cook using any ofthe other oven functions.

    For roasting joints of meat or poultryand for pot roasts, preheat the oven to190C - 200C and cook for 30 minutes,then adjust the oven temperature controlto 110 - 120C for the remainder ofthe cooking time.

    Always use the top half of the ovenwhen slow cooking with theconventional oven function.

    Slow cooking times will be aboutthree times as long as conventionalcooking times.

    Make sure that frozen foods are

    thoroughly thawedbefore cooking. Do notslow cook joints of meat or

    poultry weighing more than 214kg /412lb. Always use the top half ofthe oven for slow cooking.

    Automatic cooking is only available inthe main oven.The programmer buttons

    down - reduceup - increase

    The function button in the centre isused for setting the minute minder andsetting up the automatic cooking. Seebelow for details.

    Symbols on the LED display.

    This A symbol appears when either a

    semi, or fully automatic program isselected. This symbol will flash whilea program is being set. Once a pro-gram is set the symbol will light up,and remain lit until the alarm sounds,or the program is cancelled

    This Bell symbol appears when theMinute Minder function has beenselected. While the Minute Minder isbeing set, the Bell symbol flashes.

    Once the length of time is set, the Bellsymbol remains lit until the time runsdown, or the function is cancelled.

    This message and A symbol appearwhen you are asked to set the lengthof time you require the oven to cookautomatically for. Using the Up andDown buttons adjusts this accordingly.

    This message and A symbol appearwhen you are asked to enter in an endtime, or when you would like the ovento switch itself off.

    To set the time of day

    N Press the Up and Down buttonstogether for a few seconds, andrelease.

    N The G in between the numbers onthe LED Display will begin to flash.N While the G is flashing it is possi-ble to adjust the time using the Up andDown buttons. Once the time hasbeen set, allow approximately 30 sec-onds before using any of the othertimer functions. This ensures that the

    time will remain correct.

    To select an alarm tone

    There are three tones to chose from.

    N Press and hold the down button to lis-ten to the first tone.

    N Release the down button and press itagain to listen to the second tone etc.N Releasing the down button after thetone has sounded will automaticallyselect that tone

    Setting the minute minder

    N To set the Minute Minder, press theFunction button once. The bell symbolwill appear and start flashing. Theflashing only lasts for 5 seconds so thetime must be set within this time frame.N Use the Up and Down button to setthe length of time required. Once thishas been done, the Minute Minder isset.N When the desired length of time hascounted down the alarm will sound.N To cancel the tone, press any of thebuttons.N To cancel the Minute Minder at anytime, press the function button andthen press the Up and Down buttonstogether.

    Semi-automatic cooking

    There are two types of semi automatic

    cooking available on this appliance.

    The oven must be switched on, and inuse to use either of these functionssuccessfully.

    The Duration method allows you to setthe oven for a specific length of time.

    If a dish needed 2 hours to cook, thenit would be possible for you to set theoven to turn off 2 hours later. Thisallows you to be sure that your foodwill be cooked for a set length of timeand no longer.

    The End Time method allows you to

    enter a specific time when you wouldlike the oven to switch off. If you wishto leave the oven unattended, then itoffers peace of mind that the oven willhave turned itself off at the set time.

    To cancel the semi automatic pro-grams, press both the Plus and Minus

    buttons together. This can be done atany time during the cooking process.Then if necessary, re program.

    For the instructions on how to use bothof these functions, please see the fol-lowing page.

    Fully automatic cookingThis function incorporates both a dura-tion and an end time and is meant to beused when you wish to delay the starttime.

    We recommend that the first few times

    this function is used you are in thehouse, this will familiarise you with youroven and prevents food from being overcooked or under cooked.

    Care must be taken when selectingfoods for this function, it is not recom-mended for certain food items which

    may spoil, or are sensitive to being left.

    It is also advisable to set the end time tobe as close to your return as possible toprevent food being left standing.

    N Press the Function button twice,(1)which will skip past the MinuteMinder.

    N The LED display will flash the worddur, (2) and the A will flash on theleft hand side of the display.

    N Use the Up and Down buttons to set

    the length of time you want to cookfor.(3) This must be done within 5seconds or the time of day will showagain.

    Once this is done the oven will auto-matically switch off once the time haselapsed, and the alarm will sound.

    To switch off the alarm, press anybutton. To view any remaining timepress the function button twice

    The End Time method

    N Press the Function button three times,which will skip past the Minute Minderand the Duration programmer. (4)

    N The LED display will flash the wordEnd and the A will flash on the lefthand side of the display. (5)

    N Use the Up and Down buttons toselect the time the oven is required toturn off. (6)

    Once this is done the oven will turn

    itself off at the time you have selected.To switch off the alarm, press anybutton.

    Fully automatic cooking (example)

    This programming method is best suit-ed for when a delayed start time is

    required. Unlike the semi automaticmethods this requires both the dura-tion and the end time to be entered.The timer will work out the start timeand begin cooking.

    N Press the function button twice toselect the length of time your food will

    need. (7)N The A on the left hand side willflash and the dur message will flashup. (8)N Using the Up and Down buttons setthe time you require within 5 secondsof the dur message. (9)N Press the function button three times

    until the A flashes again and theEnd messages appears. (10) &(11)N Using the Up and Down buttons, setthe time you would like the oven toswitch off. (12)N Set the temperature of the oven andplace the food inside.

    Automatic cooking

    These notes below are to help you withusing the automatic cooking facility.Please make sure that you read themcarefully before you start using theautomatic functions.

    Do

    Familiarise yourself with the use ofthe programmer.

    Select foods which are as fresh aspossible, and as cold as possible -ie; preferably straight from therefrigerator.

    Choose foods which are suitablefor cooking from a cold start, assome dishes will be affected bybeing left uncooked, at room tem-

    perature, perhaps for severalhours, especially when the weath-er is hot.

    Make sure that meat, poultry anduncooked food are thoroughlythawed before placing them in theoven.

    Cover dishes with lids or foil, asthey may be left standing in theoven for some time before cook-ing.

    Do not Never place warm food in the

    oven for delayed cooking - eg;

    stews prepared by frying meat firstmust be thoroughly cooled beforeplacing in the oven.

    Do not cook dishes containing leftover cooked meat or poultry, orpastry dishes with wet fillings, asthey are not suitable for automaticcooking.

    Do not put food items intended fordelayed cooking into a warm oven- allow the oven to cool before set-ting for delayed cooking.

    Do not over-fill dishes containingliquids, as they might boil over.

    Never leave food in the oven to

    cool slowly after cooking, serveimmediately or refrigerate.

    Caution: Any cleaning agentused incorrectly may damagethe appliance.

    Always let the oven cool beforecleaning.

    Some cooking operations generateconsiderable amount of grease, thiscombined with spillage can become ahazard if allowed to accumulate onthe oven through lack of cleaning. Inextreme cases this may amount to

    misuse of the appliance and couldinvalidate your guarantee.

    It is recommended that the applianceis cleaned after open roasting.

    Do not use caustic, corrosive orabrasive cleaning products, productscontaining bleach, coarse wire woolor any hard implements, as they will

    damage the surfaces.

    All parts of the appliance can besafely cleaned with a cloth wrung outin hot soapy water.

    Vitreous enamel parts

    GRILL PAN, OVEN FLOOR

    Use a mild cream cleaner - eg; Cif.

    Stubborn marks may be removed witha moistened Brillo pad.

    The grill pan may be cleaned in adishwasher, or with a nylon brush inhot soapy water.

    Chrome plated parts

    OVEN SHELVES & OVEN SHELF RUNNERS,GRILL PAN TRIVET

    Do not use abrasives or polishes, use amoist soap pad - eg; Brillo. These itemsmay also be cleaned in a dishwasher.

    Note: Oven shelf runners can beremoved for cleaning. Grasp therunners, and slide out of the hangingholes as shown.

    Easy care surfaces

    OVEN SIDES AND BACK

    We recommend that the appliance iscleaned after open roasting, and alsoafter roasting at temperatures higherthat 200C, to help pervent a build upof fats. Use of a trivet in a roasting tinwhen roasting will help reduce fatsplashing.

    Caution: Most types of cleaningagent will damage these surfaces.

    Only use a few drops of washing upliquid in hot water. Wipe the surfaceswith a clean cloth wrung out in hot soapywater - if larger splashes of fat do notreadily disappear, scrub the area witha nylon brush or nylon pan scourer

    and hot soapy water. Rinse well andheat the oven to dry the surfaces.

    Glass parts

    FACIA PANEL & DOOR PANELS

    Use a mild cream cleaner - eg; Cif.

    Rinse thoroughly and dry with a softcloth. Do not use abrasive cleanersor polishes.

    To remove the glass panel for cleaning,open the door to the door stop position(about 30 open), hold the top andbottom edges of the panel and slideout. Note that if the door is openedfully when removing the inner doorglass panel, the door may spring shut.

    Important: if the inner door glasspanel is removed for cleaning, it mustbe replaced the right way up asshown, and pushed fully in to the

    stop position.

    Painted, plastic and metal finishparts

    DOOR FRAME & HANDLE, CONTROL KNOB

    Only use a clean cloth wrung out in

    hot soapy water.

    Stainless Steel surfaces (stainlesssteel finish models only)

    FACIA PANEL, HANDLES, DOOR PANELS

    Only use a clean cloth wrung out in hotsoapy water, and dry with a soft cloth.

    Stubborn marks can be removed usingLuneta. We recommend that youclean the whole of the stainless steelarea to maintain a uniform finish.Supplies can be purchased from theCustomer Care Centre.

    Do not use undiluted bleach or anyproducts containing chlorides as theycan permanently damage the steel.

    Extra care should be taken when cookingfood in salted water. Some foods arecorrosive - eg; vinegar, fruit juices andespecially salt - they can mark or

    damage stainless steel if they are lefton the surface. Turn off and wipe anyspillage immediately, taking care toavoid skin contact with any hot surfaceor spillage.

    Sharp objects can mark the surface ofstainless steel, but marks will becomeless noticeable with time.

    To maintain the finish of the stainlesssteel, or to remove any greasy marks,wipe the stainless steel surface sparinglywith a minimum amount of JohnsonsBaby Oil and kitchen paper.

    Do not use cooking oils, as these maycontain salt, which can damage the

    stainless steel surface.

    Step 1: Prepare installation

    Do not lift the oven by the doorhandle.

    Whilst every care is taken to eliminateburrs and raw edges from this product,please take care when handling - werecommend the use of protectivegloves during installation.

    Please note that the weight of thisappliance is approximately 47kg(unpacked). Take care when lifting itinto the housing unit - always use anappropriate method of lifting.

    If this appliance is to be installed nearto a corner where the adjacentcabinets run at right angles forward ofthe appliance, there must be a gap ofat least 90mm between the appliance

    and the cabinets, to prevent overheatingof the cabinets.

    1. Remove the fixing screws from thepolythene bag on the top of theappliance, but leave the appliancein the base tray packaging until

    you are ready to install it.

    Note: When removing the

    appliance from the base traypackaging care should be taken toensure the outer frame trim is notdamaged.

    2. (i) When installed in a typical600mm deep built in housingunit, the false back should beremoved from the housing unit,to provide the necessary depthfor installation.

    (ii) When the false back isremoved, it is normally the casethat the support shelf for the

    appliance leaves a gap betweenthe back edge and the wall ofapproximately 80mm.

    (iii) If no gap occurs between theback edge of the shelf andthe wall behind the unit, werecommend that a gap of atleast 30mm is made by

    shortening the shelf.3. The appliance is designed to fit

    into a standard 600mm widehousing unit, with minimum internaldimensions as shown on page 22.

    Please note that all sizes are nominal,some variation is to be expected.

    Installation Instructions

    Step 2: Connect to the electricitysupply

    Warning: This appliance must be

    earthed.The appliance must be installed by acompetent electrician using a doublepole control unit of 30 ampere minimumcapacity with 3mm minimum contactseparation at all poles.

    We recommend that the appliance isconnected by a qualified electricianwho is a member of the N.I.C.E.I.C.and who will comply with the I.E.E.and local regulation.

    1. Access to the mains terminal isgained by opening the terminalblock cover at the rear of theappliance (use a small flat-bladed

    screwdriver).2. Connection should be made with

    suitable twin and earth heatresistant flexible cable, minimum4mm2, which is suitable for use upto 25 amps.

    3. First strip the wires, then push thecable through the cable clamp in

    the terminal block cover.4. Connect the cable to the terminal

    block and tighten the cable clampcover.

    5. Close the terminal box, ensuringthat the cover is engaged on thelocking tabs.

    Step 3: Secure appliance intohousing unit

    Insert appliance into cabinet.

    Note: The unit housing the appliancemust be appropriately fixed.

    To secure appliance to housing unit

    Note: Ensure that the appliance iscentrally located.

    Take care not to damage the appliance

    or cabinet.

    There are 6 securing screws.

    Open the grill / top oven door,and screw 2 screws through thetop corner holes in the front frame.

    With the grill / top oven door stillopen, screw 2 screws through the

    holes in the front frame, locatedunder the grill compartment.

    Close the grill / top oven door.

    Open the main oven door, andscrew the remaining 2 screwsthrough the bottom corner holes inthe front frame.

    Close the main oven door.
