Six sexy salsas! Micheladas! Crickets! ITALIAN PIZZA DESSERT CONTEMPORARY CUISINE SEAFOOD FRENCH ASIAN & SUSHI ASIAN & SUSHI CONT. MEXICAN SANDWICHES & SALADS BREAKFAST I would take them to Hillcrest’s Great Maple 8 . Its house-made brisket is tasty. You can’t miss the Great Maple donuts. They also have a sick Bloody Mary. It’s just a fun spot for breakfast. After indulging ourselves, we stroll the nearby farmer’s market and see what goods they have. LUNCH Ironside 26 in Little Italy. It has great oysters and some of the best clam chowder in town. DINNER We’d head down to Cucina Urbana 6 in Bankers Hill and have some tasty snacks. I really like the chicken liver mousse and house-cured meats. You can’t go wrong with a pizza and some pasta. It’s just a feel-good downtown spot. If I can, I love to sit at the bar. Really fun social environment. BAR My favorite bar to take people to is Polite Provisions 82 in Normal Heights. It’s the best looking bar with the best cocktails in town. You have cocktails on tap or punch bowls which are always cool with groups. Next door if you get hungry, you can soak up the booze with some snacks from Soda & Swine 17 . And they let you bring the food back in to Polite Provisions. You can’t go wrong! BREAKFAST I love to start out weekend mornings with brunch at Monello 47 . I always get the Monello Benedict. I substitute the prosciutto for tomato (I’m a pescatarian) and with a side of roasted potatoes, it’s perfection. It might be the best-kept brunch secret in town. I probably shouldn’t be telling people! LUNCH Saturdays I grab an iced latte from Influx 70 and stroll through the Little Italy Mercato. You can sample fresh sea urchin and tamales while stocking up on produce for the week. Everyone who comes to visit can’t believe this amazing place comes to my neighborhood every Saturday. DINNER No week would be complete without a meal at Prepkitchen 13 Little Italy. The food is comforting and classic, yet modern and inventive. It never gets old because the menu is constantly updated to reflect the seasons. BAR I almost always prefer nice wine to cocktails but I change my mind when visiting Ironside 26 . Paul Basile’s interior design really transports you to another world. At first, you might not notice the wall of piranha heads but once you do, it’s mesmerizing. BREAKFASTI would take them to Hillcrest’s Great Maple8. Its house-made brisket is tasty. You can’t miss the Great Maple donuts. They also have a sick Bloody Mary. It’s just a fun spot for breakfast. After indulging ourselves, we stroll the nearby farmer’s market and see what goods they have.

LUNCHIronside26 in Little Italy. It has great oysters and some of the best clam chowder in town.

DINNERWe’d head down to Cucina Urbana6 in Bankers Hill and have some tasty snacks. I really like the chicken liver mousse and house-cured meats. You can’t go wrong with a pizza and some pasta. It’s just a feel-good downtown spot. If I can, I love to sit at the bar. Really fun social environment.

BARMy favorite bar to take people to is Polite Provisions82 in Normal Heights. It’s the best looking bar with the best cocktails in town. You have cocktails on tap or punch bowls which are always cool with groups. Next door if you get hungry, you can soak up the booze with some snacks from Soda & Swine17. And they let you bring the food back in to Polite Provisions. You can’t go wrong!

BREAKFASTI love to start out weekend mornings with brunch at Monello47. I always get the Monello Benedict. I substitute the prosciutto for tomato (I’m a pescatarian) and with a side of roasted potatoes, it’s perfection. It might be the best-kept brunch secret in town. I probably shouldn’t be telling people!

LUNCHSaturdays I grab an iced latte from Influx70 and stroll through the Little Italy Mercato. You can sample fresh sea urchin and tamales while stocking up on produce for the week. Everyone who comes to visit can’t believe this amazing place comes to my neighborhood every Saturday.

DINNERNo week would be complete without a meal at Prepkitchen13 Little Italy. The food is comforting and classic, yet modern and inventive. It never gets old because the menu is constantly updated to reflect the seasons.

BARI almost always prefer nice wine to cocktails but I change my mind when visiting Ironside26. Paul Basile’s interior design really transports you to another world. At first, you might not notice the wall of piranha heads but once you do, it’s mesmerizing.

LIFE

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? Grew up in Redondo Beach, CA. Back then, it was what some parts of Ocean Beach and Mission Beach feel like now...laid back beach community.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO SAN DIEGO?I moved to SD from NYC in 2005, my girlfriend at the time (and now wife) and I were looking for a change of life. While doing some soul searching in Bali, my wife found a job here and we decided to give SD a shot. We fell in love with it and decided to settle down here. We got married on Sunset Cliffs in 2010.

BESIDES THE WEATHER, WHY DO YOU CALL SAN DIEGO HOME? San Diego has a lot of opportunity and it’s not over saturated with layers of sociopolitical history. I believe that as a creative person you have lots of freedom here, but like anywhere else, it takes a strong vision and hard work.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? I grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, a snow-bound town not unlike Buffalo, New York. It’s a rust belt city right on Lake Erie. Growing up, it had a lot of neighborhoods settled by European immigrants - lots of Italians, Irish, and Polish, and a lot of Catholics. High school sports is huge, as is pizza, spaghetti, and beer.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO SAN DIEGO?The job brought me here. I was living in Atlanta, Georgia as a freelance writer and public radio producer. KPBS was hiring an arts producer. I applied and got the job. I’d never been to California and I didn’t know anyone when I moved here. Packed up all my stuff and my dog and rolled across the southern US watching the landscape open up. It was amazing.

BESIDES THE WEATHER, WHY DO YOU CALL SAN DIEGO HOME? Avocados. I love avocados. Do you know how expensive they are back east? I can pick them off trees here!

It’s no secret San Diego has the best weather, but what else makes this city great?
